Innovative Gadgets In

Computer Technology

By : Nilay Mehta
Computer technology combines the hardware of
computers and computer-controlled devices with
software—operating systems, authoring tools, expert
systems, and courseware—to support training
technology.

There are many to learn from , few of them are :

Cloud Computing
Fiber Optics Cables
Robotics
3D Printing
Super Computers
Cloud Computing
The cloud symbol was used to represent
networks of computing equipment in the
original ARPANET by as early as 1977

Cloud computing is a virtualization-based

technology that customize applications via
an internet connection.

This includes a development platform,

hard disk, software application, and
database.

It is a technology that uses remote

servers on the internet to store, manage,
and access data .
Types of clouds :
Private cloud
Private cloud is cloud infrastructure operated solely
for a single organization.
Public cloud
A cloud is called a "public cloud" when the services
are rendered over a network that is open for public
use. Public cloud services may be free.
Hybrid cloud
Hybrid cloud is a composition of a public cloud and a
private environment, such as a private cloud or on-
premises resources,

Cloud Engineering brings a systematic approach to

the high-level concerns of commercialization, It is a
multidisciplinary method encompassing
contributions from diverse areas such as
systems ,software ,web , performance ,
information technology engineering ,
security, platform, risk, and quality engineering.
FIBER OPTICS CABLES
Fiber optic technology has its roots back
in the Roman times when they started
drawing glass into fibers. In the 1970s,
the ''optical telegraph” was invented. A
series of lights were placed on towers, in
order to transmit messages from a place
to another.

Cabling is the process of packaging

optical fibers in a cable structure for
handling and protection.

In some applications bare fibers work

just fine, such as fiber optic sensors and
laboratory use.

However for most communication

applications fibers must be packaged in
a cable for practical use.
Advantages:
Optical fiber has large bandwidth, it
can transmit more data per second.
It is of very low loss. This implies that
longer distance communication is
possible using the optical fibers.
 Carries signal at a much faster rate
Immune to crosstalk
 Since the data is carried as light,
there is no electrical hazard
 Special applications like medical
imaging and quantum key distribution
are only possible with fiber because
they use light and are made of
dielectrics.
Optical fibers are widely used
in fiber- optic communications, which
permits transmission over longer
distances and at higher bandwidths
(data rates) than other forms of
communication.
Robotics
The earliest robots as we know them
were created in the early 1950s by
George C. Devol, an inventor from
Louisville, Kentucky.

He invented and patented a

reprogrammable manipulator called
"Unimate," from "Universal
Automation." For the next decade, he
attempted to sell his product in the
industry, but did not succeed

Robotics is an interdisciplinary sector of

science and engineering dedicated to
the design, construction and use of
mechanical robots.
Application
Military robots.
Industrial robots.
Cobots (collaborative robots),
Construction robots.
Agricultural robots (AgRobots).
Kitchen automation.
Domestic robots.
Nanorobots.
Swarm robotics.
Autonomous drones.
Sports field line marking.
Remarkable Projects :
Vyomitra
Vyomitra is expected to be onboard
unscrewed Gaganyaan missions
to microgravity experiments and support
astronauts in crewed missions.

Mangalyaan
ISRO, which brought together an
Orbiter, Lander and Rover with the goal
of exploring the other planets.
India is now the first country to reach
Mars on its first attempt.

And many more....

3D printer
The earliest record of 3D printing
through the additive process was the
Japanese inventor Hideo Kodama in 1981.
He created a product that used
ultraviolet lights to harden polymers and
create solid objects. This is a stepping
stone to stereo lithography (SLA).

3D printer is a machine allowing the

creation of a physical object from a
three-dimensional digital model, typically
by laying down many thin layers of a
material in succession.
Application
 Education
Prototyping and manufacturing
Medicine
Construction
Art and jewelry

In a lot of industries, 3D printing provides

countless benefits . However, it is not going to
replace traditional manufacturing. It is still an
emerging technology with some disadvantages
that need to be considered when selecting a
product development method. Manufacturers
and product designers therefore need to see
it as a process to complement traditional
manufacturing. They can exploit its unique
capabilities to improve product design and
manufacture entirely new products that could
not be otherwise produced.
Super computer
The history of supercomputing goes back to
the early 1920s in the United States with the
IBM tabulators at Columbia University and a
series of computers at Control Data
Corporation (CDC), designed by Seymour
Cray to use innovative designs and parallelism
to achieve superior computational peak
performance. The CDC 6600, released in
1964, is generally considered the first
supercomputer. However, some earlier
computers were considered supercomputers
for their day.

A supercomputer is a computer with a high

level of performance as compared to a
general-purpose computer. The performance
of a supercomputer is commonly measured
in floating-point operations per second
(FLOPS) instead of million instructions per
second (MIPS).
Application
Weather forecasting, aerodynamic research
Probabilistic analysis, radiation shielding
modeling (CDC Cyber).
Brute force code breaking (EFF DES
cracker)
3D nuclear test simulations as a substitute
for legal conduct Nuclear Non-Proliferation
Treaty (ASCI Q)
Molecular Dynamics Simulation (Tianhe-1A).
Scientific research for outbreak
prevention/Electrochemical Reaction Research

Supercomputer users satisfy Commodity

clusters the needs of many . The increasing
gap between processor speed and
communication latencies is likely to increase
the fraction of supercomputing applications
that achieve acceptable performance only on
custom and hybrid supercomputers.
Computer Technology

Progress in many of the basic computing and

information technologies has been rapid in recent years, and
the committee does not expect the pace of change to slow
down in the foreseeable future. While some technologies are
reaching maturity now, many important technologies have
enormous future potential.
