Viscous Fluid Flow

Final Report

Wall model or wall function is usually necessary when conducting the simulation of
turbulent flows, especially for LES and RANS models. In this report, you are asked to
finish the following tasks related to the wall model.

(1).
Explain why the wall model is needed in turbulence simulation.

(2).
Equilibrium wall model is one of the most famous wall models. Please determine the
equation of the equilibrium wall model by making reasonable assumptions from the
Navier-Stokes equations near the wall.

(3).
An observation point is in the turbulent boundary layer flow near the wall and the normal
distance from the wall to the point is 0.005m. We have the information of velocity parallel
to the wall=2m/s in this observation point. Determine uτ (friction velocity) and y+
(dimensionless wall distance) using the numerical integration to solve the equilibrium
wall model.
