First title heading

US cities losing 36 million trees a year

The author starts by giving the facts of the impact tree loss has had on urban areas and why it affects
you. Then continues by giving 10 benefits trees can provide to your community. Some of the benefits
include air pollution reduction, energy emissions reduction, water quality improvement, etc.

The evidence of factual data within the text, indicates that it is of an objective perspective; however the
author uses pronouns like “we”, “you” and “us”. This gives the article subtle emotive undertones.
Despite this the article focuses on the statistical benefits and impacts of ending the excessive
deforestation of delicate ecosystems.

The text is heavily reliant on logos (facts and proven studies, supporting a point of view) to effectively
convince readers the claim that the more trees that are carefully planted will lead to a healthier
environment. The multiple examples of logos are used mainly for the promotion of ideas surrounding
nature conservation; this portrays the biased nature of the article.

The author’s argument would be persuasive to readers both concerned with the environmental status
and those who don’t believe it is an issue. However, the emphasis on how beneficial the conservation of
the forests would be and the overall natural environment, seems to be more directed at a specific
reader.
