Theme: Cerebral Embolism
Sub theme: Role of Heteropolysaccharides in management of
thromboembolism
Clinical Scenario:

A 35-year-old pregnant lady referred to hospital due to unconsciousness since 12

hours. On medical history from her family, they told she already suffering from
hypertension since last five years but due to pregnancy anti-hypertensive drugs
stopped and only safe group is giving from last three months. On physical
examination her systolic blood pressure was 160 mmHg & diastolic B.P was
120mmHg, CT scan brain reveals there was blood clot present at major cerebral
artery. Consultant decided there is major thromboembolism in cerebral artery. For
her treatment they recommended immediate intravenous therapy of anti-coagulant
which is basically major glycosaminoglycan to resolve the embolism from major
artery.

Point to be discussed:

Q1: Define Glycosaminoglycan’s?

Q2: What is the most common glycosaminoglycan?
Q3: Which glycosaminoglycan act as ant coagulant?
Q4: What is the function of glycosaminoglycan?
Q5: What is the difference between GAGs and proteoglycans?
Q6: What are glycosaminoglycan in skin?
