Adolescence
- is the period following the onset of puberty during which a young person
develops from a child into an adult.
- the period from puberty to maturity terminating legally at the age of
majority.
- the state or process of growing up.

Adolescence is the period of transition between childhood and adulthood.


It includes some big changes – to the body, and to the way a young person
relates to the world.

•The many physical, sexual, cognitive, social, and emotional


changes that happen during this time can bring anticipation and anxiety
for the both children and their families.
•Understanding what to expect at different stages can promote
healthy development throughout adolescence and into early adulthood.

Adolescence is characterized by risky behavior, which is made more


likely by changes in the brain in which reward-processing period centers
develop more rapidly than cognitive control systems, making adolescence
more sensitive to rewards than to possible negative consequences.

 Children who are entering adolescence are going through many


changes (physical, intellectual, personality and social developmental).
 The physical maturation most clearly distinguishes adolescence
from childhood.
