Rivers transport and deposit

1. A. Stones are one of the examples that traction carries.

B. Sand is an example of what saltation helps to move.
C. Silt is an example of what is carried by suspension.
D. Twigs is just one example of what is carried by floating.
E. Salt is one of the many examples that is carried by solution.

2. A)

2. B) I think the position of the meander will change over time because water is pushed to the
outside of a bend, and erodes the curve further, which makes it bigger and wider.
3. A) A floodplain can be a weird place to build on. Firstly, you should never build a house on
one, because a house will immediately be knocked over the second a flood comes. And you
don’t want your house to get wrecked, do you? But on the other hand, floodplains are great
places to build farms. This is because when a flood comes, all the nutrients in the silt and
other stuff will go into the soil and help to farm all the plants on the plain.
b) If I would ever build a town on a floodplain, this is how I would do it. Firstly, I would put a
farm (for grazing animals), because the land would be nice and moist and healthy for all the
animals. Secondly, I would put the playing fields, because it doesn’t really matter if they got
ruined, and it is unlikely it would be flooded in the first place. Pen ultimately, I would put all
the houses because they would already be so far from the river they would nearly never be
flooded. And lastly, I would put all the factories, because they are vital for the town to
thrive.
