Questions 6-10
6 Hi, Jacques!
This time next week I’ll finally be in Paris. I’ve already packed everything I need. I’ve also got
two guide books to study during the flight. My list of places to visit is really long. So, if I run out
of money, perhaps you could give me a job at your restaurant. I might even learn more about
famous French cuisine.
See you soon!
Richard
A To work there.
B To study there.
C To see the sights.
7 Dear all,
Here are some new details about our trip to Italy. We’ll be in Venice on Friday, Saturday
and Sunday. Our original plan was to visit the Doge’s Palace on Sunday. As it is closed that
weekend, we’ll have to go there immediately after visiting the Murano glass factory. This means
that you will have some extra free time on Sunday to explore Venice or enjoy a gondola ride.
Tia
A On Friday.
B On Saturday.
C On Sunday.
A In the mountains.
B At the seaside.
C At the spa.
9 Jaz,
I know that we all agreed to tidy the flat together before the party. Lilly promised to clean the
bathroom. You agreed to be in charge of dirty dishes and I’m supposed to bring the food from
“Easy Snacks”. I don’t think I’ll be able to do what I promised unless you pick me up at the
office. Will you?
Stella
10 Milly!
They called from Doctor Miller’s office to inform you that they had to change your 10:15
appointment tomorrow because Doctor Miller has an operation at 11:30. Don’t forget you must
leave earlier if you want to get there on time at 9:45. There’s a lot of traffic in the morning, so I
suggest leaving at 9:15 at the latest.

Task 3
Questions 11-15
Tom Bernick
A New Kid on the Block
When I was young, I thought I could change the world. But I ended up getting my education first
and even a job before I became an environmentalist. Today young people no longer have to wait
until they leave school. They can make real change now. Sometimes they just need to know it’s
possible.
I’m writing about Tom Bernick, a young activist. He was in sixth grade, and was angry because
the fast-food shops around the school were selling food and drinks in plastic containers, with plastic
straws, forks etc. He complained about it to a reporter he met at an animal cruelty protest who
agreed to publish an article about it in the local newspapers. Soon after, the shops began to use
recycled packaging.
Since then, Tom has completed many projects. Training local high-school students to become
‘Green Ambassadors’ is one of his favourites. After three years of practice, they are now going to
plant urban gardens to provide fresh natural foods for the poor and homeless. At last, he’s finding
time to finish the book about his projects.
Tom has always wanted to participate in the ‘Students for Sustainability’ club. In only two years
the club has managed to plan and carry out many activities. They’ve planted over 7,000 trees on
their own so far and he is going to get involved with this project. The club has also managed to
improve the local lake’s habitat for wildlife and water quality.
Tom needs financial back-up for his numerous projects. Although Poke Land Trust’s support has
never been stronger, he’s been discussing possible partnership with the Watershed Institute and
he’s also planning an event with the Clean-a-Thon organisation to attract new partners. Maybe you
would like to attend this event or join the Club?
A As a teenager.
B As a student.
C As an adult.
A Clean-a-Thon.
B Poke Land Trust.
C Watershed Institute.
