8 Extension Activities

All text in italics is to be read to the children. Activities have been kept varied so as to keep the children engaged.
1) What do you see?
Show children a selection of interesting nature images. Have them guess what they see.
We used the book 'Edge of the Earth, Corner of the Sky' by Art Wolfe. View some images here. Other interesting images
may include the following macro images of sand grains and snowflakes.
Who created it all? Allah.
Allah made it all from nothing and did not need anyone to help Him.

2) Action rhyme: 'Allah makes..'

What you need: the action rhyme ‘Allah makes…’ OR the poem Allah made Everything OR ‘My Lord is Allah’ by Umm Assad
Publications.
Sing the rhyme to the children, adding appropriate movements for them to mimic. Repeat, encouraging children (and mums)
to join in.

Allah gives life and takes care of His Creation. He gives them all they need to live and grow.

3) Discussion: Show children a pot plant, brainstorm orally:

What does Allah give the plant for it to survive?
What about us?

Allah subjects His creations to us, and allows us to benefit from them (see Surah anNahl for examples).

4) Sorting activity: 'Allah made’
Present a range of objects to the children, asking them to place those items which Allah made onto a separate tray or
cloth. (Printable on Page 5)
Suggested items for sorting: a gemstone or rock, shells, a plant, a piece of fruit, as well as various man-made items from
a range of materials such as fabric, glass, paper and metal.
*Note: In the process of classifying which items Allah made, the children may separate natural materials from man-made
ones. This activity is intended to highlight that even those things people make, with Allah's permission and using the abilities
He has given us, we cannot do so except by using the resources which He has created and put at our disposal*

Discuss: Do we make things out of nothing?

No, rather we use the things Allah created!
For example: paper from trees; plastic from fossil fuels, originally from animals and plants; glass from sand; a warm
jumper from sheep's wool.
Who gave us the ability to make these things? Allah
‫ه‬ ‫ه‬ ‫﴿و ه‬
Allah says in Surah as Saaffaat: 96: ﴾‫

'Allah created you and all that you do.'

'Indeed Allah is the Creator of every craftsman and of what he crafts.'

What else does Allah tell us about His creation?
Allah tells us that everything in the heavens and the earth submits to Him, whether they want to or not. (in Surah Ali Imraan
3:83)
Everything in the heavens and the earth glorifies Him, but we don't understand.

5) Story: "Everything says SubhanAllah"

Originally shared on Easel and Ink . *NOTE*: We did not create this file.
Read the story to the children, and encourage them to repeat ‘Subhan Allah, Subhan Allah’ with you.

Upon completing the story:

Allah tells us: ﴾‫ت اْلو واإلنس إال ِلػبه هدون‬

‫( ﴿ونا خلق ه‬Surah adhDhaariyaat 51:56)

He created us only to worship Him (alone).

What is worship? Doing what Allah loves

For a more comprehensive definition of worship refer to this file.

6) How can we worship Allah?
What you need: picture prompts
Use prompts to help children identify different ways we can worship Allah.
If we worship Allah without giving Him any partners, then Allah promises us Paradise.
End discussion with the following ayah from Surah anNahl 16:20, reminding the children that:
‫ه ه ه‬ ‫هه‬ ‫ه‬
﴾‫﴿واَّليو يد هغون نو دون اَّلل ال َيلقون شيئًا وٌم َيلقون‬
'And those they invoke besides Allah, create nothing and are themselves created.'

7) Craft activity: 'I worship my Creator'

What you need: printable [English] or [Arabic], coloured cardstock A5, coloured pencils, glue sticks, anything to decorate for
example: paper snippets, stickers, sequins, stamps
*Please note that the Arabic version is NOT a direct translation of the English*

8) Goodie bag activity: ‘Sprouting beans’ for children to do at home

If running a workshop, provide all items except for the tape in a surprise goodie bag for the children to take home.
Add the instructions below to the goodie bags:

Extension activities:
* Discuss with children the conditions of worship being acceptable to Allah: ‫ إخالص ونجابػة‬sincere intention for His Sake and
in accordance to the Sunnah of our Prophet ‫صىل ا﵀ غليً وسلم‬.

*Discuss the different creations Allah ‫ سبحاىً وثػاىل‬has created: angels, jinn and mankind. The angels always obey Allah (do
what He commands), but both jinn and mankind have been give the ability to choose and are responsible for their choices
and will be rewarded or punished accordingly.
*Discuss benefits of at-Tawheed (taken from ”‫ ”نو ربك؟‬colouring book by Shaykh Dr. Abdul-Muhsin al-Qasim). Download and
print your favourite version of the document here.
* Go through some of Allah’s names and attributes that pertain to this topic: ‫
ّ ar-Razzaaq,

‫ األحد‬al-Ahad, etc. You could let children colour in the names or do a more detailed study, using for example the colouring
sheets by Iman’s Homeschool or the worksheets by Islamic Bedtime Stories
*Explain to children that not everyone is Muslim (ie submits to Allah) but that nonetheless this is the reason they were
created. And that Allah sent all prophets to invite to worship Him (alone!), and likewise we should call others towards this.
ّ ar-Rahmaan:
*Teach kids 'two words that are light on the tongue, heavy on the scales and beloved to ‫الرمحو‬

* A few Montessori activities that relate to this topic:

Where do things come from? (Use as an extension to the sorting activity 'Allah made’ as it clearly demonstrates that we
only 'create' things in a very limited fashion and always from something that Allah created)
Life Cycle of an Apple (3 Part Cards) and Life Cycle of a Pumpkin (3 Part Cards)
