It was the Japanese
furoshiki, a reusable
wrapping cloth from the
Edo period, which
started the practice of
wrapping presents ages
ago.

In Korea, the bojagi, a
square piece of fabric,
has seen use since the
Three Kingdoms
Period.

In the west, affluent
Victorians used thick,
decorative paper,
along with ribbons and
lace, to cover presents
as a practice of luxury.

Wrapping paper
Ribbons and bows
Decorative items like paper
flowers, lace, twine, etc.

Gift wrapping is an art
of packing, wrapping
and decorating an
item or article to tend
as a present.
Gift wrapping is not
necessarily confined to paper.

Steps on how to wrap a box
1. You have to roll out the
wrapping paper. Be sure
you have got enough
paper to fit around the
entire gift.
2. Once the paper is
cut to the right size,
place the box face
down in the middle of
the paper.
3. You need to close both
ends. face the open end
towards you and fold the
left and right edges.
4. Next, fold top flap
down and do the same
thing to the other side.
5. Position the box so top
is facing up. Run your
thumb and forefinger
across the edges of the
box to create a creased
edge. Repeat on bottom
of the box. Add ribbon.
