Aim: To establish a Smart Security system using Cisco Packet Tracer and to analyse its
working.
Theory:
The advancement in the Internet of Things for electronic devices and applications has
attracted people, especially younger generations, to move into the interconnected world. A
smart security system is an application that is highly in demand. Together with the rise is
cybersecurity issues. By being connected, many users are exposed to security threats without
their knowledge. In this Experiment, smart security system using is presented using Cisco
Packet Tracer Simulation Software.

Devices Used and their Description:

1. Home Gateway:
The Home Gateway provides 4 ethernet ports as well as a wireless access point configured
with the "HomeGateway" SSID on channel 6.
WEP / WPA-PSK / WPA2 enterprise can be configured to secure wireless connections. The
Home Gateway internal (LAN) IP address is 192.168.25.1.
Home Gateway login (web) : admin
Home Gateway password : admin

2. Motion Detector: Detects motion from

mouse movement
Features:
 Registration Server Compatible
 Detects motion from mouse
movement.
 Automatically deactivates after 5
seconds without any mouse
movement.
Direct Control:
 Alt-mouse move to interact.

3. Siren:
Features:
 Registration Server Compatible
 On
 Off
Direct Control:

 ALT-click to interact

4. Webcam: A camera device that records and sends data

Features:
 Registration Server Compatible
 Off
 On
 Video recording
Direct Control:
 ALT-click to interact

5. Smartphone: The smart security system usually consists of monitoring tools, control
devices, and several automatic devices that can be accessed using a smartphone
connected to the Internet network

6. Door: It can be Open / Close / Unlock / Lock

Features:
 Registration Server Compatible
 Ability to vent Carbon Dioxide and Carbon Monoxide
Usage:
 Connect to the Door from SBC/MCU/Thing with IoT Custom Cable
 Use customWrite function to control the door and lock
Direct Control:
 ALT-click on keyhole to lock/unlock
 ALT-click on door to open/close
NOTE: opening and closing the door is not remote controllable
Working:
Step 1: Open cisco packet tracer and arrange the IOT components as shown in the figure 1:

Step 2: Click on Home Gateway. Go to its configure tab, and click on Wireless. For
authentication, choose pass phrase and set a password of minimum 8 letters.
In our Experiment password is: getconnect

Step 3: Click on the Motion detector. Go to its configure tab, and change the display name to
Motion detector.
Next, click on Home gateway from IoT server section, then click advanced.
From I/O configuration tab , check whether the network adapter is connected to wireless 1W
Then click on configuration and set the password.

Step 8: Click on Condition,
Name: Person present
Then set,
Web cameraOn True
AlarmOn  True

Press Ok and add another condition

Name: No Person
Then set,
Web cameraOn False
AlarmOn  False

Press Ok

Conclusion: We were able to construct a simple and smart security alert system using packet tracer,
where we can identify who tries to enter restricted area and gives you the flexibility to have the
control of permitting them in or not.
