On the morning of 14th March 2015 in the Verdwaal vicinity I was on route walking to work
whereby I was accosted by a man in private clothes who then and there pulled out a pistol
fire-arm and directly opening fire on me causing bodily harm, as he shot and wounded me
on my thigh from the back, the bullet penetrated me from the back of my thigh and excited
on the front. It was then on the later stage that I find out that my attacker is a member of the
South African Police Services (SAPS), as two SAPS members in uniform advanced to
accompany my attacker.
They then arrested me for case no: 223/12/2014 which is still pending RC 22/2022 of the
Itsoseng Reginal Court in the North-West Province. Since I was shot by a member of SAPS, I
opened the case with the Independent Police Investigating Directorate (IPID), the case
number against the police official who shot me is case no: 71/03/2015 at the Itsoseng Police
Station.
Upon follow up with IPID at 018 397 2500 about case no: 71/03/2015, I was re-directed to
the investigating officer for this case Mr. Tshepo Meruti at 079 262 1281 who he then told me
he does not recall anything about my case and on several instances, I have been given the
same response by IPID.
With the help of a Correctional official on 14 December 2023 we called Mr. Tshepo Meruti he
who then alleged to the correctional official that my case had insufficient evidence to be
brought before court of law for prosecuting and as a result, the National Prosecuting
Authority (NPA) has declined to prosecute on my behalf and therefore my case was closed.
If that is the case the NPA should furnish me a detailed, certified letter that my matter as
registered case no: 71/03/2015 was indeed registerd with them and that such decision to
decline to prosecute on my behalf was so and accordingly taken by the Director of Public
Prosecution.
