durable, water proof wrapping.

PART 2 - PRODUCT

2.1 MATERIALS
2.1.1 Pipe and fittings shall be in conformance with the following unless specified otherwise by local authorities.
2.1.2 Fire fighting piping and fitting below grade
2.1.2.1 Underground pipes & fittings (up to 20 bar) FM approved.
2.1.2.2 High density Polyethylene Pipes & fittings (HDPE) PE 100 confirm to AWWA C 906-07 and
NFPA 24, FM approved manufactured for underground fire protection lines, and listed to ISO
4427 – SDR 9 to be used for fire underground main.
2.1.2.3 Pipes and fittings must meet above standards in addition to local civil defense approval.
2.1.2.4 With butt fusion fitting joining for similar material and wall thickness, electrofusion for
dissimilar material/wall thickness, suitable for pipe pressure ratings, and each joint should
have separate report showing full details on joint and welding process and result.
2.1.2.5 Temperature & pressure rating not less than the system working pressure by taking in to
consideration of de-ration factor for temperature, recurring surge & occasional surge
pressures
2.1.3 Firefighting pipe work above grade:
Pipes shall be factory galvanized steel
2.1.3.1. Piping dimensions shall be to BS 1387 Class C (heavy grade), galvanized steel ERW, pipes
designed for a working pressure of at least 2400 Kpa and tested @ 1.5 time of the system
maximum operating pressure
2.1.3.2. Pipe fittings of 50 mm and smaller diameter used in above ground piping shall be of factory
galvanized, malleable iron or ductile iron, threaded fittings confirming to B16.3, having working
pressure not less than 2400 Kpa and tested @ 1.5 time of the system maximum operating
pressure
2.1.3.3. Pipe fittings of 65 mm and larger diameter used in above ground piping shall be of factory
galvanized, ductile iron, grooved fittings or Butt welded conforming to ASME B 16.9 & pipe
flanges confirming to ASME B16.5, (UL listed and and FM approved combination of fittings,
gaskets and grooves) having working pressure not less than system working pressure.
2.1.3.4. Pipes up to the valve chamber shall be HDPE(if underground), after the valve and up to the riser
shall be GI pipes as specified, a restrained joint or multi Victaulic shall be installed @ the
building entry.
2.1.4 Domestic cold water above grade:
2.1.4.1 Single layer PP-R pipes, fittings and jointing of the pipes and fittings should conform to ASTM
F2389 & ISO 21003 (Specification for Multi-layer Polypropylene Pipes).
2.1.4.2 Potable water pipes shall be WRAS or NSF 14 Certified for drinking water quality, SDR 6, PN 20.
General quality requirements and testing According To DIN 8077/78 or ASTM F2389 & ISO
21003, joining method to confirm ASTM D2389 or CSA B137.11.
2.1.4.3 All sizes as shown on drawings are internal, Flow Velocity shall not exceed 2 m/sec.
2.1.4.4 For sizes larger than 110 mm HDPE pipes shall be used, HDPE pipes and fittings shall be WRAS or
NSF14 or approved equal certified and manufacturer to ISO 4427 , BS EN 12201 pipes and
fittings shall have reassure rating 1.5 time the working pressure but not less than PN-20 /PE-100
and SDR-9.
2.1.4.5 All pipes run on roof shall be insulated with fiber glass complete with foster, canvas and 0.9 mm
aluminum cladding.
2.1.5 Domestic hot water:
2.1.5.1 Multi-layer with fiber reinforced, Polypropylene pipes and fittings to ASTM F 2389 , ISO 21003 ,
pressure rating PN 20 , General quality requirements and testing According To DIN 8077/78 or
ISO 21003, corrosion-resistant, excellent heat fusion properties, high impact resistance, high
natural insulation value.

2.1.5.2 Joining method to confirm ASTM D2389 or CSA B137.11.


2.1.5.3 Potable water pipes shall be WRAS or NSF-14 Certified for water quality, ISO-21003.
2.1.5.4 All indoor hot water pipe works (supply and return lines) Pipe shall be insulated with fiber glass
insulation as specified in related section.
2.1.5.5 All sizes as shown on drawings are internal.
2.1.5.6 All pipes run on roof(outdoor) shall be insulated with fiber glass complete with foster , canvas
and 0.9 mm aluminum cladding.

2.1.6 Domestic cold and hot water final dropper (PEX pipes):
2.1.6.1 Cross-linked polyethylene (PE-X) pipes and fittings, PEX pipes, fittings and jointing of the pipes
and fittings should conform to BS 7291-1, BS 7291-3, ISO 15875 and AWWA C904. Other
relevant standards for PEX and PEX Systems include: ASTM F876 -Materials
2.1.6.2 Dimensions and Performance for Tube, ASTM F877 -Performance Standard for Tube/Fitting
Systems, ASTM F2023 -Chlorine Resistance test method, ASTM F2657 –UV Resistance test
method, AWWA C 904 –Standard for PEX service lines.

2.1.7 Domestic cold water pipes and fittings below grade and infrastructure:
2.1.7.1 Domestic cold water below grade (Boosted, lifting , service line & ADDC main line ):
2.1.7.2 Polyethylene service connection pipes and fittings shall be black PE80 medium-density
polyethylene pipes (MDPE) and shall comply with the requirements of ISO 4427 Parts 1, 2, 3 and
5 or EN 12201 Parts 1, 2, 3 and 5. The pipes shall have a SDR (standard dimension ratio) of 11.
2.1.7.3 The polyethylene pipes and fittings shall be suitable for use above ground and underground for
conveying potable water at a working pressure of up to 12 bar. Connection by fusion is the
recommended method of joining polyethylene pipes , With butt fusion fitting joining for similar
material and wall thickness, electro-fusion for Dissimilar material/wall thickness
2.1.7.4 The polyethylene pipe shall meet the minimum requirements of the following specification:
2.1.7.5 Minimum density measured according to ISO 1183-2 shall be between 945 and 955kg/m3.
2.1.7.6 melt flow rate measured according to ISO 1133-1 with a 5kg load shall be between 0.75 and
0.95g/10min;
2.1.7.7 tensile strength at yield, measured according to ISO 6259 shall be at least 18MPa;
2.1.7.8 elongation at break, measured according to ISO 6259 Parts 1 and 2 shall be at least 350%; and
2.1.7.9 Thermal stability, as measured by the oxidation induction time, in accordance with ISO11357-6
and at a temperature of 200°C shall be a minimum of 20 minutes.
2.1.7.10 BS EN ISO 9001 /2008 quality control
2.1.7.11 The pipes shall be manufactured from polyethylene containing only those antioxidants, carbon
black and other additives necessary for the manufacturing of the pipes and conforming to the
requirements of ADWEA and international specifications.
2.1.7.12 Polyethylene pipes shall be clearly marked at intervals of one meter indicating the
manufacturer’s name, nominal diameter, standard number, pipe class, pressure rating and date
of pipe manufacture. The word "WATER" shall also be marked every one meter. The marking
shall be by means of paint or engraved marks. All markings shall be blue in color. The pipes shall
be supplied in coils of 150m and shall be kept shaded at all times. The coils shall be wrapped
and shall not be exposed to direct sunlight. Where concrete encasement are required HDPE
sleeve with min Thick of 4 mm shall be provided with clearance in between
2.1.7.13 Compression fittings for above ground pipes:
2.1.7.14 Compression fittings shall meet the requirements of BS EN 1254-1, BS EN 1254-2.Compression
fittings shall be made from gunmetal to BS EN 1982. The fittings shall be suitable for direct
connection to polyethylene pipes. The compression ring shall be of EPDM and suitable for
potable water. The thread shall be BSP to BS EN 10226-1/BS 21. The inserts shall be of copper
and male/female fittings shall be chamfered to aid assembly and to avoid the crossing of
threads.
2.1.7.15 The fittings shall be capable of sustaining a working pressure of up to 16 bar without leakage,
the rubber compression rings shall be reusable at least 10 times.
2.1.7.16 Push-fit fittings for underground pipes

2.1.7.17 Push-fit fittings shall be suitable for use in underground and above-ground installations, and
shall be compatible with polyethylene pipes. The fitting shall consist of a body with internal
taper, grip ring for end load resistance, 'O' ring for water tightness seal and liner. The fittings
shall be suitable for working pressure of up to 16 bar without leakage.
2.1.7.18 The fittings shall be of acetyl or polypropylene material supplied complete with pre-assembled
and captive grip ring and 'O' ring. The grip ring shall be made of acetyl and the 'O' ring of EPDM.
The seal of the joint shall be made using water pressure as a thrust medium and no other tools
or nuts shall be used to obtain a watertight joint.
2.1.7.19 The ends of the polyethylene pipe shall be marked at two locations corresponding to the two
points of resistance provided by the grip ring and the 'O' ring.
2.1.7.20 Extractor tools for the dismantling of push-fit fittings shall be supplied with the fittings. Five sets
of metal extractor tools shall be supplied with each consignment. The tools shall be suitable for
the diameter and type of push-fit fittings supplied.
2.1.7.21 The push-fit fittings shall carry the name of manufacturer, size and standard number.
2.1.7.22 Water supply pipes below building, under traffic roads, at road crossing shall be provided with
15cm concrete encasement with uPVC sleeve with clearance around.

2.1.8 ADDC main line


2.1.8.1 ADDC Main line run inside the plot to be High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipes and fittings to
ISO 4427 Parts1, 2, 3 and 5 type PE 100 and ADWEA Standard Specification for Water Works No.
W-P-SS-005
2.1.8.2 UPVC protection pipe shall be provided for the entire underground pipe run from the ADDC
approved connection point up to the water tank , the uPVC protection pipe shall be encased in
reinforced concrete. Warning tape shall be provided over the polyethylene pipe/uPVC
protection pipe. ADDC main line run inside the plot shall be fully run inside PVC sleeve to ADDC
Approval.

2.1.9 Sanitary drainage:


2.1.9.1 Sanitary drainage, rain water and vent piping installed above grade:
2.1.9.1.1 Sanitary drainage rain water and vent piping installed above grade shall be uPVC to BS-EN-1329
for pipe sizes 80mm Dia and larger and MuPVC for pipe sizes 50mm Dia and smaller. Fittings
shall be push fit type.

2.1.9.2 Sanitary drainage, rain water and vent piping installed below grade:
2.1.9.2.1 Drainage pipework below grade within the building and up to manhole shall be uPVC to BS EN-
1401-1.

2.1.9.3 Sanitary drainage and rain water pressure pipes (fed from pumps) and kitchen waste pipes (as
applicable) :
2.1.9.3.1 Sanitary drainage and rainwater piping pressure pipes shall be HDPE.
2.1.9.3.2 High Density Poly-Ethylene (HDPE): Pipes shall be made of halogen-free HDPE material (High
Density Poly-Ethylene) in accordance to European standards for above ground EN1519 and for
below ground EN 12666-1 (PN16) SDR-9. HDPE pipes standards shall also meet the ISO
standards ISO8770 & ISO8772.
2.1.9.3.3 HDPE Pipes and Fittings shall be tested and approved by (British Board of Agreement) or
approved equal ISO4427, DIN 8074
2.1.9.3.4 HDPE Pipes and fittings shall be manufactured with halogen-free High Density Poly Ethylene
(HDPE), Pressure PN 4 ,SDR 33 to 21 classified as PE 80 in accordance to DIN8075 /ISO 4427(for
gravity lines)
2.1.9.3.5 HDPE Pipes and fittings shall be manufactured with halogen-free High Density Poly Ethylene
(HDPE), Pressure PN 10 classified as PE 80 (SDR11) in accordance to DIN8075/ISO 4427 (for
pressure lines)

2.1.9.3.6 In general , the HDPE where used in pressure lines the pipe nominal pressure shall be 1.5 time
the system working pressure.
2.1.9.3.7 Where HDPE used for potable water system , pipes shall be WRAS or approved equal certified
2.1.9.3.8 Connections shall be of Butt welding and with Electro-fusion Socket. Expansion socket and Fixed
support to be provided wherever necessary and accordance with manufactures
recommendation.
2.1.9.3.9 HDPE Pipes shall be tempered after production to reduce the stress and less shrinkage to attain
leak proof connections. Also the pipes and Fittings should be UV resistant to increase the life of
the product.
2.1.9.3.10 All operatives to be trained in welding and jointing techniques by the manufacturer and to issue
the certificates to them.
2.1.9.3.11 High Density Poly-Ethylene (HDPE) Pipes, fittings and HDPE collector floor drain shall be from
same manufacturer.
2.1.9.3.12 Third party Conformity certificate and other approvals to be provided; such as SKZ or
Equivalent.
2.1.9.3.13 All pipe sizes shown on drawing indicate pipe inner diameter, equivalent HDPE drainage pipe dia
as below:
2.1.9.3.13.1 Dia 50 Nominal Dia 56 (inner 50 mm)

2.1.9.4 Drain pipework between manholes and from building to external manholes:
2.1.9.4.1 Underground pipes from building and from manhole to manhole to be UPVC class-16,
underground drainage pipes shall be protected with concrete encasement.
2.1.9.4.2 UPVC Pipes as below :
2.1.9.4.3 All uPVC components shall be designed and fabricated by one manufacturer
2.1.9.4.4 Use polyvinyl chloride, together with those additives that are needed for the manufacture and
performance of pipe to this section of the standard specification. Pigments may be added to
achieve the manufacturer's nominal pipe color.
2.1.9.4.5 Provide uPVC pipes and fittings capable of withstanding the working pressure, test pressure,
and the loading specified.
2.1.9.4.6 For sewage applications, pipes and fittings shall be suitable for carrying domestic sewage at
temperatures up to 40 C° and having a maximum sulphide concentration of 50 mg/liter.
2.1.9.4.7 Recycled material shall not be used.
2.1.9.4.8 Supply pipes in straight lengths of not greater than 6 meters excluding the depth of any socket.
2.1.9.4.9 Determine the nominal pipe wall thicknesses from the table in ISO 4065
2.1.9.4.10 Comply with the limits specified in ISO 11922 when measuring the nominal outside diameters
and wall thicknesses in accordance with ISO 3126
2.1.9.4.11 All buried joints shall be spigot and socket type with EPDM rubber sealing rings in accordance
with BS EN 681. The sealing rings shall be supplied by the pipe manufacturer.
2.1.9.4.12 Joints shall be capable of withstanding a "draw" of 13mm over and above the initial jointing
allowance and remaining watertight. The initial jointing allowance is the gap between the spigot
and the shoulder of the socket measured parallel to the center- line of the pipeline and must
not be less than 6mm or greater than 13mm or as recommended by the pipe manufacturer.
2.1.9.4.13 Joints shall be capable of withstanding a deflection of not less than one and a half degrees in
any direction and remaining watertight. The pipe joints shall be capable of withstanding an
external pressure equivalent to 10m head of water without leakage in both the straight and
deflected positions
2.1.9.4.14 Single sockets shall be in accordance with ISO 2045.
2.1.9.4.15 Double sockets shall be in accordance with ISO 2048 may be used adjacent to structures or
special fittings.

2.1.9.4.16 The ends of cut pipes shall be suitably chamfered prior to making the joint.
2.1.9.4.17 Ensure that all pipes including cut lengths and all fittings before dispatch from the pipe
manufacturer's works are indelibly marked as follows:
2.1.9.4.17.1 The letters uPVC.
2.1.9.4.17.2 The manufacturer's name initials or identification mark.
2.1.9.4.17.3 The nominal external diameter in millimeters.
2.1.9.4.17.4 The pressure classification in bars.
2.1.9.4.17.5 The date of manufacture and batch number.

2.1.9.5 Condensate drain piping shall be:


2.1.9.5.1 UPVC class E to BS 3505 with solvent welded fittings to BS 4346
2.1.9.5.2 GI pipes to BS 1387 class b with threaded fittings to BS 1740 For installation on roofs and within
plant rooms.

2.1.10 Sanitary drainage Sound proof pipes (applicable for pipes above livable spaces
(All areas except toilet and kitchens, MEP and service rooms etc.):
2.1.10.1.1 The top and bottom layers of these soundproof pipes are made of Polypropylene and middle
layer made of mineral filled polypropylene compounds (PP-MD). These pipes are suitable for
drainage, soil and waste water discharge and low & high temperature. These pipes are having
triple layers– external layer of black color, middle layer of PP-MD compound color and internal
layer of white color, External layer shall be made from black PP(Polypropylene) marked with
manufacturer’s trade mark and color stripes – that provides the UV resistant performance.
2.1.10.1.2 Middle layer shall be made from PP-MD (Polypropylene and mineral filled compound) that
provides the acoustic insulation. Internal layer shall be made from white PP (Polypropylene)
that
2.1.10.1.3 Provides the high performance in flow and contrast for visual monitoring, the piping system
consist of pipes and fittings.
2.1.10.1.4 Soundproof drainage pipes and fittings shall be compatible to connect with HDPE drainage
system. Butt welding, electro-fusion, ring seal socket, expansion socket connections as
appropriate as necessary shall be installed.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 INSTALLATION
3.1.1 Provide a complete system of sanitary drainage for all building waste and condensate drainage and connect
to the main drainage system. Install piping in strict compliance with manufacturer's written instruction and
the requirement of the Consultant and all work to conform To ADSSC.
3.1.2 Polypropylene pipe & fittings heat fusion method to confirm ASTM D2389, CSA B137.11, contractor to
submit method of statement for joining method as per above STD and to confirm all the requirements of AD
uniform plumping code section 6 for (Polypropylene Plastic Pipe and Joints) , Mechanical and compression
sleeve joints shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
3.1.3 Pipe passing under a driveway or building slab shall be encased in 150 mm of 1.37 MPa concrete on the top,
bottom and sides.
3.1.4 All Water pipes, Refrigerant pipes, run on the roof roof shall run in heavy duty aluminum tray with cover.
3.1.5 Compaction for the full width of the pipe trench shall be to at least 95% Modified Proctor Density.
3.1.6 Connections between piping of steel and copper or brass shall be made using dielectric fittings.
3.1.7 Provide thrust blocks for buried pressurized water mains, at every change in direction of the pipe, to resist
the thrust due to the test pressure and unexpected surge during operation. Thrust blocks shall be poured
against undisturbed soil.
3.1.8 Allow for the expansion and contraction of all pipes. Install expansion joints to have sufficient flexibility to
prevent end thrust and movements caused by thermal expansion and contraction which can cause damage
to piping and joints. For all PVC and PE piping, provide expansion joints as required to absorb all
movements in piping systems.
