Material Submittal For Wooden Doors
Material Submittal For Wooden Doors
Origin: Europe
Histological structure:
Grain: Straight, Sometimes helicoidal
Texture: Fine and Uniform
Working properties:
Sawing: Easy
Drying: Slow, with special attention to warp
Planing: Easy
Glueing: Trouble free
Nailing and screwing: Trouble free
Finishing: Good, it can adopt almost every tone
Mechanical properties:
Tensil strength: 110 kg/cm²
Compressive strength: 580 kg/cm²
Specific weight:
Green: 1050 kg/m³
Dried: 730 kg/ m³
Color/Appearance: Beech is typically a pale cream color, sometimes with a pink or brown hue. Veneer tends
to be slightly darker colored, as slicing the veneer usually requires the wood to be prepared with steam, which
gives the wood a more golden tone. Flatsawn surfaces tend to be very plain, while quartersawn surfaces
exhibit a silvery fleck pattern.
Grain/Texture: Grain is straight, with a fine to medium uniform texture. Moderate natural luster.
Rot Resistance: Beech is considered non-durable or perishable; it is also susceptible to insect attack.
Workability: Overall good workability; it machines well, and glues, finishes, and turns well. Beech also
responds superbly to steam-bending. It does, however, have a large amount of movement in service, so
movement and wood stability must be taken into account.
Allergies/Toxicity: Although severe reactions are quite uncommon, European Beech has been reported as
been reported as a sensitizer. Usually most common reactions simply include eye, skin, and respiratory
irritation. See the articles Wood Allergies and Toxicity and Wood Dust Safety for more information.
Pricing/Availability: European Beech is widely available across Europe, and it very economically priced
within its natural range.
Sustainability: This wood species is not listed in the CITES Appendices or on the IUCN Red List of
Threatened Species.
Common Uses: Lumber, veneer, flooring, boatbuilding, furniture, cabinetry, musical instruments (piano
pinblocks), plywood, and turned objects.
Comments: Beech is an important and widely-used hardwood in Europe. Its hardness, wear-resistance,
strength, and excellent bending capabilities—coupled with its low price—make this hardwood a mainstay for
many European woodworkers. Depending on soil conditions, European Beech can grow to very large sizes,
and wide, long lumber is commonly available for use.

Locations
Throughout central Europe and UK; also western Asia.
Uses
Beechwood is the most popular general purpose timber for furniture such as chairs, desks, benches and
the like including bentwood furniture. It is also used for quality joinery, kitchenware, tools, tool handles
and workbenches, turnery, musical instruments, toys, bobbins, and domestic flooring. It is rotary cut for
utility plywood and corestock and sliced for unremarkable decorative veneers.
Aspects
The timber is very pale cream to pinkish-brown, and is often ‘weathered’ to a deep reddish-bronze-brown
after steaming. It is typically straight grained with broad rays, and has a fine, even texture.
It has medium stiffness and high crushing strength. It also has medium resistance to hand tools, with
moderate blunting of cutters. Beech glues easily, stains and dyes well and takes excellent finish.

TECHNICAL DATA SHEET
Standard particle boards are suitable for non-structural use (non-load bearing) in dry environments where
the relative humidity is over 65% just a few weeks throughout the year.
They should be protected from humidity and stored on a flat surface, avoiding direct contact with the
ground or water, maintaining the distance between battens as supplied with the packaging in order to
avoid swelling, curvatures and deformations. In case of stacking several packets the vertical alignment of
the battens should be respected to ensure a correct weight distribution.
Several factors, such as sudden changes in temperature or humidity, inadequate stacking conditions in
warehouses or in processing areas, can result in irreversible deformations and curvatures.

STORAGE
The sheets should be stored in a dry and covered stock conditions at temperatures between 18 and 36°C and relative humidity between
50 and 65%. Avoid direct exposure to UV radiation and keep minimum distance of 1.5m away from sources of heat (radiators).
Direct floor and outside wall contact must be avoided at all times. Stored sheets stock should be rotated such that older sheets will be
used first.
Sheets should be stored in their original manufacturer's packaging, on pallets, in horizontal form and always tightly strapped or covered
by a protective board (no raw chipboard) of at least the same format to avoid any damages or warping. In case the boards are protected
by plastic film, the covering shall be removed immediately after installation.
If horizontal storage is not possible, the sheets must be stored at an angle of approximately 80° against a full-surface support with
counter-support. Using a laminated protective board of at least the same format is required for upright storage as well.
Best use before 6 months from production date.
