I am currently an undergraduate student studying Law at the University oI Warwick and my

academic record, including G.C.S.E's, A Levels and an Advanced Extension Award in

English, is testament to my Iocus and commitment to ensuring my work is always the very
best it can be. Amongst my eleven G.C.S.E`s I have attained a B grade Ior G.C.S.E Maths as
well as an A grade Ior A level English and am thereIore competent in numeracy and literacy.
I am incredibly Iond oI literature as demonstrated by my extensive English qualiIications and
have been passionate about reading since I was a child. Aside Irom studying English
Literature I also have an A Level in Classical Civilization which allowed me to read Greek
masterpieces aIIirming my love oI reading. During my time at Sixth Form I helped run the
school's poetry club making poetry engaging and Iun Ior the younger students. I have also
tutored Iellow students in English making literature appealing and understandable. In the past
I have also worked in my parent's nursery during the summer months and this has developed
my sensitivity to children as well as my ability to supervise their activities, which included
group reading, whilst whole heartedly taking part in the Iun. I was also Vice Form Captain in
my Iinal years oI Sixth Form taking on the responsibility oI representing my Iorm at school
council. This role improved my conIidence and communication skills as I had to concisely,
yet eIIectively, communicate my points to a staII committee.
A particular example oI my service Iocus arose when I worked at Marks and Spencer, a store
that prides itselI on its high level oI customer service. An elderly customer came into the
store with a vague memory oI an item she was interested in purchasing that she could not
remember the name oI. Rather than send her oII to blindly search the shop Iloor I personally
looked through the staII product catalogue with the customer until she spotted the product.
Then, as she had mobility problems, I searched the shop Iloor until I Iound the product and
took it to the till. I then served her politely, maintaining pleasant conversation. BeIore leaving
the store the customer was Iull oI eIIusive thanks and I was leIt Ieeling content that I had
given the very best customer service possible.
At the very heart oI a law degree is the ability to analyse problems and using logic and
knowledge oI previous case law come up with sensible solutions and judgements. I recently
completed a piece oI coursework that sought to speciIically test my analytical legal skills. I
broke the task into three parts Iocusing on the three diIIerent areas oI law that I needed to
analyse. Then using the skills I have been taught in lectures and seminars, when tackling
problem questions, I picked out the issues oI legal contention and then logically addressed
why these problems meant my Iictitious client was innocent Ior the purposes oI the act in
question. In this assessed task, speciIically designed to test my ability to deal with problem
situations, I achieved a Iirst and gained one oI the highest marks in my academic year.
During my time with Marks and Spencer I came into contact with a male to Iemale
transsexual who wished to use the ladies Iitting room. Using my initiative, I appreciated that
it was not Ior me to judge the customer`s liIestyle choice and proIessionally took her to the
Iitting room. Not only did I represent M&S as a non discriminatory, Iorward thinking
company I did so whilst still delivering the exceptional customer service Marks and Spencer
prides itselI on.
I am genuinely passionate about reading and love the stimulation that comes with working
with children. I have a sincere desire to inspire and encourage a love oI literature and would
truly love to help children discover the joys oI reading, as I did all those years ago.
