Advantages:

 Firstly, internal promotions can boost employee morale and motivation by

recognizing and rewarding hard work and dedication, fostering a positive
organizational culture. Additionally, promoting from within ensures continuity and
stability within the team, as the promoted individual is already familiar with the
company's values, processes, and expectations, reducing the learning curve
associated with onboarding an external candidate. Moreover, internal promotions
can lead to increased loyalty and commitment among employees, as they see
opportunities for career advancement and development within the organization.
Disadvantages:

 One potential drawback is the risk of creating resentment or dissatisfaction among

other employees who may have also aspired to the promotion but were
overlooked. Additionally, internal promotions may result in a lack of fresh
perspectives and innovative ideas, as the promoted individual may be entrenched
in existing ways of thinking and operating. Furthermore, there is the possibility that
the promoted employee may struggle with the transition from peer to supervisor,
facing challenges in managing former colleagues and navigating new
responsibilities. Despite these disadvantages, promoting from within can be a
strategic decision that harnesses the talents and potential of existing employees,
ultimately contributing to the long-term success and growth of the shop supervision
team.

3. What is the span of a supervisor?

 The span of supervision refers to the amount of management a person can

effectively handle, direct, guide, and lead, as determined by the number of
subordinates reporting directly to him. The span of control principle, as it is
commonly referred to, acknowledges that there is a limit to the number of people
who may be directly monitored by a manager.
