01. A typical working day.

My name is David and I am working as a designer for a textile company. It takes me more than
30 minutes to get to my work place; therefore, I usually get up at six in the morning to get ready
for breakfast before going to work. On arriving at the office at about 8 am, I always check my
email first to know if there are any new assignments from my boss and / or new orders from
clients. Then all designers in the department have an informal daily meeting to talk about what
we have and have not done and what we can do to improve our work performance. After the
meeting, we take a close look at the orders and have discussions to reach a final agreement on
the design and the fabric we should choose so that we can make our customers satisfied. After
lunchtime, we continue to work on other orders and finish work at around 5 pm. (163 words)

02. Your company

My name is David and I am working for a textile company which is located in the centre of
HCMC. My company was established in 2000 by a group of business experts and it has been
doing really well up to now. Besides the Board of Directors, my company is divided into 5
departments. They are Sales, Accounts, Shipping, Marketing and Production. It employs around
65
50 officers and 200 factory workers. At first, my company mainly produced various kinds of
fabric for the home market and then gradually entered the market of some Asian countries such
as Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines. At present, we are planning to export our
products to the Australian market and expanding our business with a newly-opened department
called Design Division, which deals with orders for different fashion designs. We are recruiting
talented designers as well. Therefore, the workforce will be enlarged and so will our turnover
and profits. (155 words)

03. Your job

I am a cashier working for a bar where most customers are foreigners. I started this job after
graduation from the school of business with a degree in accounting two years ago. On my first
day at work, I was really excited and happy to get to know everything related to the job. Now,
though I sometimes have trouble understanding English, everything seems fine as I am always
willing to learn new things. Moreover, all of my co-workers are very nice. They always help me
whenever I am in difficulty. They teach me how to work on the register and how to restock
supplies. Communicating with foreign clients is not easy for me, but my job gives me a good
opportunity to develop my communication skill and self-confidence. In my job, I have to be very
responsible, respectful, and helpful to my customers. (143 words)

04. Your boss

I have worked with a number of bosses from different companies but the boss I like best is my
current supervisor, Mr. David Jackson. His position comprises of selling a variety of short and
long term insurance; his duties also included selling securities, bonds and providing financial
consulting. What makes David such an exceptional boss is the fact he always shows excellent
performance at work. In addition, he is enthusiastic and passionate. As a competent boss, David
is very knowledgeable about all policies and procedures relating to finance and he fully
understands the everyday operations of running a business. He also has plenty of insight on
economic protocol and how it relates to clients and their investments. Another outstanding
characteristic of David is a positive indication of his leadership capabilities. For example, when
someone asks him a question, and if he does not know the answer, then he has no problem
saying sorry instead of pretending or assuming what the answer is. (162 words)

05. A business trip
I just had a business trip to Singapore two months ago. I got up early in the morning to take a
taxi to the airport so as to make sure that I was on time for departure. To my surprise, my
assistant, who accompanied me on the trip, was early too. Finishing checking in, we had
breakfast inside the airport and talked about the upcoming trip. It was not a long flight; thus, we
arrived in Singapore in the same morning. Then we took a taxi to the hotel where our room
reservation had been made in advance. The hotel was really impressive with great decor and
luxury facilities, and it was next to the conference venue. We spent the next three days in
Singapore attending a conference. Some of the presentations were very useful and could assist us
with our current business. However, we had to fly back to Vietnam right after the conference as
many things were waiting for us there. (163 words)
