Integration of biracial culture and literature among heterogenous society in
the select of novel Zadie Smith

ABSTRACT

Literature serves to be a reflection of human life, society and culture. It captures and
communicates the human experience which offers which offers insights into different
cultures. People convey their cultural ideas, values, and beliefs through literature. Literature
has the power to promote social changes through tales in order to preserve the culture and
tradition. Literature enables the people to maintain their culture through narration in a
heterogenous society. Integration is the process of adapting to the host culture while
maintaining the traditional cultural heritage. Cultural heterogeneity refers to differences in
cultural identity related to class, ethnicity, biracial, language, traditions, religion, and sense
of place which diversifies lifestyles in certain respects. Ethnicity is often passed on to
generations and can play a significant role in shaping an individual’s identity and sense of
belonging within a community. This paper seeks to preserve the uniqueness and
independence of ethnic groups from many backgrounds to a heterogenous society and
embrace diversity.
