Learning Competency/ies: Trace and describe the importance of water cycle. S4 ES – Ivb-2
(Taken from the Curriculum Guide)

● Evaporation, condensation, and precipitation are important parts

Key Concepts/Understandings of the water cycle.

to be Developed ● The water cycle is an extremely important process because it
enables the availability of water for all living organisms.

Domain
Adapted Cognitive Process
Dimensions (D.O. No. 8, s. OBJECTIVES:
2015)

Knowledge
Trace and describe the importance of the water cycle.

Skills Define water cycle operationally.

Attitude Investigate and relate the process involved in water cycle in the activity made.

Values To develop awareness on the process of water cycle.

2. Content Trace and Describe the Importance of the Water Cycle

Science and Health 4, TG pages 348-350, SLM in Science, Earth and Space 4,
3. Learning Resources SLM 4 pages 3-5, https://gpm.nasa.gov, www.google.com, www.youtube.com
, PowerPoint Presentation, Video Clips, cartolina, pentel pens.

4. Procedures
4.1 Introductory Activity Pre- Activity
3 minutes Give safety precautions before performing the activity on heating
substances.
* Work in areas away from flammable materials like paper.
* Use gloves to protect your hand from the heat of the flame.
* Never tilt the alcohol lamp.
* After removing the cover of the alcohol lamp, wipe the base of the
lamp.
* Never throw a burning matchstick anywhere after using.
* Use appropriate gloves or potholder in holding hot materials like
beaker or sardines can.
* Never bring your hands nor your face near the flame.
* Clean the used materials and working tables/places.

4.2 Activity Perform Activity # 1

12 minutes
“What are the Processes?”
What you need:
Marker 100ml water
alcohol lamp/candle graduated cylinder
beaker or sardines can improvise tripod
crucible tong or test tube holder manila paper

What to do:
1. Measure the 100ml of water and pour it into the beaker.
2. Cover the beaker with foil.
3. Heats the water until it boils and observe what is coming out from
the beaker.
4. Observe the changes in the water while boiling.
5. Let the water cool for at least 30 minutes.
6. Remove the foil cover and observe where you think these droplets
came from.

Localization:
Observe/Recall the boiling of hot water at home or use heater in
school for simpler example.

4.3 Analysis Questions:

15 minutes 1. What happened to the water when heated continuously?
2. What came out of the beaker/sardines can when water started
boiling?
3. How do you call the process undergone by water when it changes
from liquid to gas?
4. What did you see when you removed the foil cover?
4.4 Abstraction Questions:
12 minutes 1. Where do you think the droplets of water came from?

2. How do you call the process when water vapor is changed to liquid
water?
3. What did you notice with the droplets of water on the foil when you
shook it?
4. How do you call that process?

4.5 Application Match the words in Column A with its description in Column B. Write
10 minutes the letter on the blank.

Column A Column B
____ 1. Evaporation A. Changing water vapor into liquid.
____ 2. Condensation B. Continuous process of changing liquid
into water vapor.
____ 3. Precipitation C. Condensed water falls back to earth.
____ 4. Transpiration D. The process of changing liquid into
gas.
____ 5. Water Cycle E. Process by which plants release water.

4.6 Assessment Write TRUE if the statement is correct and FALSE if it is incorrect.
5 minutes ___________ 1. Water will go down when it is heated.
___________ 2. The droplets of water will disappear when cooled.
___________ 3. Condensation is the process when water vapor is
changed to liquid.
___________ 4. The process of changing liquid to gas is called
evaporation.
___________ 5. You see snowflakes when you remove the foil cover
from the beaker.

Enhancing/
4.7 Assignment Improving
Research and study about evaporation.
2 minutes the day’s
lesson

4.8 Concluding Activity Condensation is the process by which water vapor in the air is
1 minute converted into liquid water. Since condensation causes clouds to
develop, it is essential to the water cycle.
5. Remarks
6. Reflections The water cycle is an extremely important process because it enables
the availability of water for all living organisms.
C. Did the remedial lessons work? No. of
A. No. of learners who earned 80% in the
learners who have caught up with the
evaluation
lesson.
B. No. of learners who require additional D. No. of learners who continue to require
activities for remediation remediation.
E. Which of my learning strategies worked well?
Why did this work?
F. What difficulties did I encounter which my
principal or supervisor can help solve?
G. What innovation or localized materials did I
use/discover which I wish to share with other
teachers?
