Correlation coefficient

The correlation coefficient, often denoted as “r,” measures the strength and direction of a linear
relationship between two numerical variables. In SPSS, this coefficient is commonly calculated
using Pearson’s correlation. The correlation coefficient ranges from -1 to 1, where -1 indicates a
perfect negative linear relationship, 1 indicates a perfect positive linear relationship, and 0
indicates no linear relationship.

Steps to Perform the Procedure

• Data Input: Open SPSS and input your dataset or import it from an external file.
• Navigate to Analyze Menu: Go to the “Analyze” menu at the top of the SPSS window.
• Select Correlate: From the “Analyze” menu, choose “Correlate” and then select
“Bivariate.”
• Variable Selection: In the “Bivariate Correlations” dialog box, select the variables you
want to analyze.
• Run the Analysis: Click “OK” to run the analysis.
• Review Output: After running the analysis, you will see output tables. Look for the table
containing correlation coefficients
