MESSAGE FROM
THE DIRECTOR

Dr. S.L.Vaya
Director, School of Criminology & Behavioural Sciences
Rashtriya Raksha University

With the mandate to be a University of National importance, SCBS aspires to follow the trend by starting
interdisciplinary academic programs in addition to regular courses like MA/ MSc Criminology & Crime
Science & MA/MSc Forensic Psychology & certificate course in Cyber Psychology. Thus, SCBS has taken
the lead to add up three innovative interdisciplinary advanced diploma courses. Students trained in
these advanced courses will be able to provide services in juvenile homes and prisons for reformation
and rehabilitation. These new interdisciplinary innovative courses are designed covering the gamut of
understanding crime, criminality and internal security challenges, impact on mental wellbeing in
appropriate courses & modules to prepare professionals capable of delivering mental health services to
prisons & juvenile homes for reformation and rehabilitation.

Restorative justice is an approach in which one of the responses to a crime is to organize a meeting
between the victim and the offender, sometimes with representatives of the wider community. Mental
Health/mental wellbeing are the gap that can be filled by developing extension services for early
identification, intervention & reformation of disability, disorder and deviance. During Covid-19
pandemic SCBS started online share and care services for the psychological wellbeing of covid warriors
and survivors. This gave an insight to establish RRU Mental Health Service facilities at Primary Health
Center (PHC), Sampa, Community Health Centre (CHC), Dahegam and at the wellbeing clinic of Lavad
village. SCBS is also aiming to set up Forensic Mental Health Service centers inside prisons. SCBS is also
aspiring to establish a Psychological care and Protection center in joint collaboration with Hospital for
Mental Health Ahmedabad for victims, and juveniles to provide OPD services to forensic care.
