Tray Unit Cleaning

Check tray unit contamination every 1 to 2 weeks and clean it if needed.

CAUTION
When the tray unit is contaminated with sample, immediately clean it.
When it is left contaminated, a vial or a boat is not stored in proper
positions and it may collide with the syringe or the chuck head. The unit
may break at worst.

Syringe Wash

After measurement, always wash a syringe and store it as follows.

CAUTION
After measurement, always wash a syringe. When it is left unwashed, a
plunger adheres to it to put load on the unit at plunger operation.
The unit may break at worst.
(1) Wash the syringe inside with solvent which quite solves the sample adhered to the
syringe. Also wipe plunger contamination with a paper towel.

(2) Dry the inside with alcohol after washing.

(3) To protect the needle tip, store the syringe in an exclusive case.

(4) In the following cases, change the syringe with new one.
• The syringe plunger moves slowly.
• The PTFE part of the plunger tip is thin and the plunger is loose.

* To set the syringe, refer to “3-4-4-1. Setting of the Syringe Head and the
Syringe”.

ASC-270LS
Section 8: Maintenance and Inspection 8-5

Inspection of the Syringe Needle Tip

Always inspect the needle tip before measurement. Repair or change it if needed.

(1) In the following cases, repair the tip with sandpaper or a file.
• The needle tip is curved.
• Foreign particles adhere to the needle.

(2) When the needle is curved, change the syringe with new one.
* To set the syringe, refer to “3-4-4-1. Setting of the Syringe Head and the
Syringe”.

Check of Syringe Weighing Volume

Check the syringe weighing volume with water every month. Measure weight with a
balance.

Sample Boat Contamination Check

When sample boat contamination or devitrification are heavy, change a sample boat
with new one.

POINT
If sample boat discoloring (turn white) is devitrification, the mechanical
strength is reduced and it may break. When fine cracks are in the devitrified
part, the mechanical strength is low. Change it immediately.

When using the horizontal furnace, check that quartz wool on a sample boat is soft and
not contaminated before measurement. When it is not soft and clean, change it with
new one.

(1) Pack about 10mg quartz wool to the sample boat of ABC unit with tweezers

(2) Always prebake a boat after changing quartz wool about three times.
Refer to “5-3-5. Sample Boat Prebaking” for details.

8-1-2. Periodical Inspection

Table 8-2 shows the periodical inspection items.

CAUTION
Always run periodical inspections every 6 to 12 months.
Failure to check the unit can lead not only to reduced performance of the
unit but also to serious accidents.

Table 8-2. Periodical Inspection Items

No. Items Contents
1 Visual check of the Contamination and dust
unit Stability of connected parts
Proper connection and fitting of connectors
2 Greasing CAUTION
At the unit inside operation, always remove the
power cable to prevent serious accidents by
malfunctions.
ASC-270LS have the mechanical parts.
Grease moderately the rail and the sliding screws.
Also grease them when it makes abnormal noises or
after dust is removed.
Recommended grease: Lithium soap grease containing
extreme-pressure additive in mineral base oil

3 ASC-270LS insulation Measure the insulation between the power terminal and
inspection the earth terminal of the chassis.
It should be 2MΩ or more.
4 Operation inspection Connect ASC-270LS unit to the analyzer and measure
regularly.

If any problems are found by the above inspections, solve the problem and re-check the
unit. When troubles can not be solved or they may be in the unit, contact our local
distributor.

8-2-3. Pyrolysis Tube Removal

Remove a pyrolysis tube by the opposite procedure to “3-4-6. Connection of HF-210

and ASC270LS Units.”.

8-2-4. Vial Wash and Storage at Trace Measurement

At trace measurement (1ppm or less), do not use a dryer for regular glass.
By air convection in the dryer, contaminated air attaches contaminant to a vial to affect
measurement values.
To restore vials, pour pure water such as ion exchange water or ultrapure water into a
container with a seal cap to wash it. Immerse vials washed with equivalent pure water
into this container. At this time, completely remove air attached to the vial inside.
Raise this vial, dry it well, and rinse with sample just before sample injection.

8-3. Storage of the Unit

Store ASC-270LS unit as follows when it is not used for long time.

The cautions for storing the unit on a table are as follows.

• Remove a power cable.
• Remove the cable to the horizontal furnace.
