1. As an engaged student and a conscientious Filipino citizen, delineate your multifaceted role in the
crucial endeavor of environmental protection. Reflect upon how your actions and choices can
influence the preservation of the natural world, while upholding the principles of sustainable
development. Expound on the responsibilities that emanate from your dual identity, discussing your
potential contributions to shaping a harmonious coexistence between human progress and the
conservation of our precious environment. (10 points)

I take on a number of responsibilities in environmental protection as a conscientious Filipino citizen and

involved student. By implementing environmentally friendly habits into my everyday routine, I help to
protect the environment. Finding a balance between environmental protection and economic growth is
crucial, and my mission is to advance sustainable development ideas in public and academic arenas. My
duties include promoting the value of biodiversity, endorsing eco-friendly endeavors, and actively engaging
in discussions to encourage the peaceful coexistence of environmental preservation and human
development. And I am aware that the things I do today will have an effect on our youth later on.
Additionally, by coming together, we can all make a difference and improve the world.

2. Contemplate the profound insight encapsulated in the timeless maxim, "IN OUR
EVERY DELIBERATION, WE MUST CONSIDER THE IMPACT OF OUR DECISIONS ON
THE NEXT SEVEN GENERATIONS," originating from the annals of the Iroquois Confederacy's
great law. Envision the transformative potential of global adherence to this guiding principle. Delve
into how the world would likely evolve if individuals, institutions, and societies conscientiously
accounted for the long- term repercussions of their actions on succeeding generations, fostering a
legacy of sustainability, resilience, and intergenerational equity. (15 points)

Within the great law of the Iroquois Confederacy, there is a profound knowledge of intergenerational
responsibility reflected in the adage, "In our every deliberation, we must consider the impact of our decisions
on the next seven generations." For me, consider what the effect may be on the community and its people. It
is preferable to have a plan that can provide long-term benefits to our environment and society over a short-
term benefit that could endanger thousands of people and our next seven generations. People, organizations,
and society must act immediately because I believe that no one should be left behind; everyone has the right
to speak and share their stories.

3. What is the value of the environment? Cite at least three examples and explain. (15 points)

The value of the environment is multifaceted, encompassing ecological, social, and economic aspects.
Biodiversity, it’s the abundance and variety of organisms in the environment support the resilience and
stability of ecosystems. The maintenance of biodiversity promotes vital ecosystem services that are beneficial
to both ecological and human health, such as pollination, water purification, and disease control. Second
Climate Regulation, Carbon sequestration in forests and ocean currents are two examples of
natural environmental processes that are essential to controlling Earth's climate. Maintaining
the global temperature equilibrium and reducing climate change are made possible by
preserving these processes. And lastly, Economic Resources it’s a variety of resources
necessary for human survival and economic activity are provided by the environment. This
covers the extraction of minerals from the Earth, wood from forests, and food from
agriculture. Ecological stability and long-term supply are guaranteed by sustainable resource
management. All things considered, the environment is priceless since it supports human
communities, economies, and ecosystems.

4. What moral responsibility do we have in dealing with the major environmental problems that result
from our resource consumption? (10 points)

For the sake of the planet and future generations, it is morally our responsibility to address
environmental problems brought on by resource consumption and establish sustainable
behaviors. This could mean adopting eco-friendly technologies, engaging in conservation
efforts, and increasing public awareness of the ways in which human behavior impacts the
environment. Human behavior is crucial, in my opinion, since it's our duty as humans to
treat our surroundings with great empathy, not merely because we receive something in
return from them. Since the environment provides us with a place to live, always
remember mother earth may survive without humans, humans cannot survive without
mother earth.

5. Which needs should be given the highest priority in our decision making, the environment or the
economy?
Maintaining equilibrium between the needs of the environment and the economy is essential. Achieving a
sustainable balance that considers both long-term environmental health and economic development is
generally preferred.

6. Is Environmental Sciences solely concerned with science? Justify your answer. (10 points)

Although the environmental sciences use scientific concepts to understand and address environmental
issues, it is crucial that they remain more than just science. Interdisciplinary collaboration with fields like
economics, policy, and sociology is crucial for the success of environmental management. This all-
encompassing approach recognizes the interconnection of environmental problems and the need for more
than just scientific study to provide complete answers.

7. Briefly explain the four basic principles of environmental science. (20 points)

• Systematic principle of environment

• Principle of environmental capacity

• Symbiosis principle between human and environment

• Entropy principle

When we say Systematic Principle of Environment it’s the principle highlights the need of
viewing the environment as a complex system made up of interrelated parts and
comprehending how modifications to one component can have an impact on the system. And
Principle of Environmental Capacity is pertaining to the finite capacity of Earth to support
diverse activities and populations without resulting in the deterioration or exhaustion of
natural resources. Also, when we say symbiosis between humans and the environment
emphasizes the interdependence of these two entities and stresses the need to preserve an
equilibrium that promotes both ecological health and human well-being. And lastly Entropy
Principle it describes how systems naturally tend to become more chaotic and random. It
emphasizes the requirement of managing and minimizing the effects of human activity that
lead to environmental disorder and deterioration in environmental science.
