TE Connectivity is giving you an update of a potential nonconformance for a wet arc testing failure
on the BMS13-48 product line.
We tested 1 sample and it passed at 91% but we had 4 wires in one bundle fail and the spec only
allows 3 wires max to fail.
Description of Non-conformity
After moving our wet arc test equipment to a new lab in Fremont, CA, TE conducted validation
testing on BMS 13-48, Type 10, Class 1, 20 AWG wire.
A failure for Wet Arc Resistance testing was recorded against BMS 13-48 Section 5.5.1.2, Section
(a), Clause 4.
BMS 13-48, Section 5.5.1.2, Section (a), Clause 4 lists three acceptance criteria for Wet Arc
Resistance testing:
• A minimum of 67 wires pass the Wet Dielectric Withstand Voltage Test
o The wire tested passed this requirement: 68 / 75 passing
• Three wires or fewer fail the Wet Dielectric Withstand Voltage Test in any one test bundle
o The wire tested failed this requirement: One bundle had 4 wires fail
• The damage to the wire is not more than 3 inches in any test bundle.
o The wire tested passed this requirement: Max. damage in any wire: 0.96 in.
