OBJECTIVE OF ACTIVITY
Inculcate among students the basic functions of HR that helps in operating the Performance
Management System (PMS) to achieve the strategic goals.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Comprehend the importance of HR functions and its key characteristics for making the process of
performance management effective.
THE PREMISE
The performance management system (PMS) provides the mechanism to improve the performance of
individuals, groups, teams, and ultimately organizations. To improve an organization's output, modern
practice is to align PMS with the basic functions of HR, which direct the individual’s efforts toward goal
attainment.
Under the affiliation of Japanese automaker Suzuki, Pak Suzuki Motor Company Ltd. (PSMCL) is the
largest automobile assembler in Pakistan. They are assemblers and distributors of cars that are being
manufactured by Suzuki and its subsidiaries. Their human resource department is undergoing reforms
based on international HR standards and practices for employees’ efficiency maximization. Hence, to
improve an organization’s productivity, modern practices must align PMS with HRM functions, which
ultimately direct the individual’s effort toward achieving strategic goals. Moreover, it is the general
perception of the HR department of PSMCL that this effort to align PMS with the strategic goals could
become their competitive advantage.
