DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION General 1. The heat exchanger is designed to relay hot air, supplied by the engine compressor, for the combined aircraft ventilation and heating system. The assembly is comprised of a rectangular box struc- ture which houses a regulating valve, an air distributor/sound sup- pressor unit and an air mixing chamber. The supply of hot air is manually regulated by a push-pull control, situated on the right- hand instrument panel in the flight compartment. Location 2. The heat exchanger assembly is installed immediately below the ventilation valve assembly, in the lower right side of the fuse- lage nose section. Each end of the assembly is supported between the fireproof bulkhead and the No. 3 engine bulkhead former. A T-shaped tubular air duct adjoins the ventilation valve assembly to the mixing chamber section. Detail (Refer to Figure 1) 3. The hot air supplied by the engine compressor enters the heat exchanger casing (1) through the supply pipe (2), which is threa- ded directly into the regulating valve (3). Control of the hot air flow is by the push-pull cable (4) attached to the operating lever (5). The operating lever is pinned to a valve cylinder (7) which ro- tates permitting the hot air to pass through the regulating valve box (6) into the air distrubutor (8). 4, The hot air then passes into the air mixing chamber (10) via the sound suppressor (9). Cold air enters the mixing chamber by means of the T-shaped air duct (11) and is automatically controlled by the operating lever connecting rod (12), which progressively opens or closes the butterfly valve (13) in the cold air duct (14). 5. In the event of a fire occurring, forward of the fireproof bulkhead, both the cold and hot air ducts gre closed by butterfly valves which are manually operated from the instrument panel shelf. These valves are spring loaded and once operated cannot be reopened in flight. chapter 1 Page 2 May 01/86 PILATUS AIRCRAFT LTD PC-6 TURBO-PORTER OVERHAUL MANUAL KEY TO DIAGRAM Access panel Oil cooler air outlet control rod Control cable Oil cooler air outlet duct Cowling support Outlet duct flap ou Sune Figure 2: Removal Preparation ——______! Detail (Refer to figure 1) 2. An actuator is located on each wing spar at No. 7 Station and is comprised of an acme-threaded spindle(10), a combined sprocket/ spindle nut(2,9) and an operating rod(13). Linear motion for the ac- tuator spindle is obtained from the rotation of the sprocket spindle nut. ‘The operating rod, which is attached at the rear of the spindle, provides the link to the landing flap, adjacent to the centre hinge point. A slotted tie-rod(14) provides control setting adjustment between the operating rod and the landing flap. 3. The sprocket assembly is carried in a bearing support hous- ing(3) which pivots about two brackets(7), bolted to the main spar, thereby permitting up and down operating rod movement during flap travel. 4, Attached to the forward end of the actuator spindle is a sleeve which acts as the flap "down" travel stop(1). The flap "up" travel stop(11) is attached to the rear of the actuator by cotter pins (12), which also secure the forward end of the operating rod. The “ackn" and "up" travel stops abut the forward and rear faces of the sprocket/spindle nut respectively, thereby limiting actuator spindle fore and aft movement. 5. 4 flap position indicator is attached to the forward end of the left wing flap actuator only, retained by the "down" travel stop securing-nut and bolt(16). The indicator projects through the wing ieading edge and graduations provide a measurement related to flap travel. chapter 2 Page 2 May 01/86 PILATUS AIRCRAFT LTD PC-6 TURBO-PORTER OVERHAUL MANUAL Chapter 2 Page 3 May 01/86 Figure 2: Removal Details and Parts Breakdown DIAGRAM B (Diagram Key is presented on Page 5) PILATUS AIRCRAFT LTD PC-6 TURBO-PORTER OVERHAUL MANUAL REMOVAL FROM WING Preparation (Refer to figure 2) 6. The removal procedure for each wing flap actuator is identical with the exception of the flap position indicator, which is fitted to the left wing flap actuator only. CAUTION Ensure that all obstacles are re~ moved from the landing flap area during the initial removal opera- tions. 7. No special tools are required for the removal of the flap ac- tuator which is effected as follows: - NOTE Retain all parts, nuts, bolts and washers that are removed to facili-~ tate the flap actuator removal. Remove the underwing panels for access(2)(3). Remove the flap "down" travel stop securing nut and washer(9a). Left wing only: Remove the flap position indicator(5). Withdraw the flap "down" travel stop bolt(9b) and remove the flap "down" travel stop(9). Remove the outer guide plate bolts and washers(10a) en- abling the removal of the outer guide plates(10), inner chain guide(11) and angle pieces(12).
