1.1 Exclusion of Responsibility

The information included in this document are solely related to the hardware
and software hereby described. However, differences may be present or
result. The contents of this document are periodically checked and reviewed
when it is needed.

1.2 Key Factors for Safe Operation

The fuel conditioning system is designed and supplied for a specific function
as well as type of liquid, pressure, temperature. The system should be used
for this purpose only and strictly within Alfa Laval´s specifications.

Incorrect operation or maintenance may result in a reduction of material

strength and reliability that could lead to serious breakdown causing fatal
injury or damage to property.

For safe operation, strictly follow the instructions for installation, operation and
maintenance pointed out in this manual.

The following is mandatory for safe operation:

1. Never ignore alarms. Always eliminate the cause before resuming
equipment operation.
2. Never use the system for other purposes than those specified by Alfa

Safety
Laval.
3. Ensure that personnel are fully trained and able in installation, operation,
maintenance, and emergency procedures. Only qualified staff is allowed to
install, operate and maintain the module.
4. Use only Alfa Laval genuine spare parts and the supplied special tools.
5. Do not tamper with the module and its components.
6. Do not modify the module components.
7. Replace the components only with other components equal in type, brand,
material and quality to those used by Alfa Laval. If it is present, see Spare
Parts Catalogue.
8. Do not maintain components if not experienced. Avoid partial maintenance.
This may cause damage to people or objects when the module is in
operating mode.
9. Ensure that each electrical grounding connection (among the module
components and between the module and the ground) is properly
connected according to the local rules.
10. Do not touch the piping when the module is in running mode; the pipes
may have a dangerous temperature that could cause injuries.

Definitions of the warning signs used in this manual are listed below.

DANGER Danger — serious injury or death

This type of safety sign or instruction indicates an imminently hazardous
situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury.
Example: Entrapment hazard — Make sure that rotating parts are at a
complete standstill before starting any dismantling work.

WARNING Warning — serious injury or death

This type of safety sign or instruction indicates a potentially hazardous
situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury.
Example: Crush hazard — When lifting the Fuel Conditioning Module,
use only the lifting eyes specifically made for this purpose. Always use a
lifting beam.

Safety
CAUTION Caution — minor or moderate injury
This type of safety sign or instruction indicates a situation which, if not
avoided, could result in minor or moderate injury.
‘CAUTION’ used without the safety alert symbol indicates a potentially
hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in equipment
damage.
Example: Burn hazard — Various machine surfaces could be hot and
could cause burns.
