1. Let X be a random variable that has a uniform distribution on interval (a, b). If E(X) = 10 and Var

a. Probability Mass Function (PMF) of random variable X
b. Moment Generation Function random variable X
c. P(X < 7), P(X ≤ 7), P(X ≥ 5) and P(X > 5)
d. FX (4), FX (5), FX (3) and FX (14)

2. Let X be a random variable with an exponential distribution with µ = 12 10. Determine:


a. Probability Density Function (PDF) of random variable X
b. Variance of random variable X
c. Moment Generation Function random variable X
d. P(X > 10), P(X ≤ 8) and P(3 < X < 7)

3. A factory produces resistors with a resistance of 1000 ohm. Allowable tolerance is only 10%, meaning
resistor that passes Quality Control are resistors with resistance between 900 ohms and 1100 ohms.
Suppose a random variable X represents the output of the resistor and is known to have distribution
X ⇒ NOR(1000, 2500), specify:
a. The Probability Density Function of X
b. Mean, Standard Deviation and Variance of X
c. fX (900), P(X ≤ 850), P(X ≥ 1254), and P(975 < x < 1378)
d. If a resistor is taken at random, determine the resistor did not pass the quality control
