C1.2.6 Data Analysis - Variables Affecting Rate of Cell Respiration

The document describes an experiment measuring the rate of cell respiration in germinating and non-germinating peas at different temperatures. The rate was lowest in non-germinating peas and increased with both germination and temperature. Germinating peas respired faster than non-germinating peas, and the rate of respiration increased as temperature rose for both groups.

6 Data Analysis: Variables affecting the rate of cell respiration

The graph below shows data collected from a respirometer that was set up at different temperatures for
germinating and non-germinating peas.

a. State which group had the lowest rate of respiration.

b. Describe how rate of respiration varies between germinating and non-germinating peas.

c. Describe how the rate of respiration varies with temperature.

d. For germinating peas at 22 degrees C, calculate:

i. Percent change in volume of oxygen consumed

ii. Rate of respiration
