An Introduction to Logbook

Welcome to ( ) department!
Logbook is registration of your clinical, procedural & academic activities during training program. It is an essential
document for documentation of all related training activities during training program. As well, it is a roadmap for
you to guide you what to learn & where & when & how during rotations. In addition, it will be a document of
supervision and assessment by your supervisor as well as by your head of department & finally by PGME
Directorate. By supervision and assessment of logbook, the nature of curriculum application will be assessed and
defects will be detected and related actions will be taken to improve curriculum application. It will be essential
criteria for entrance to exam at the end of each year of residency.
What is competency?
Competency is the ability to do something well. The curriculum of your residency program is competency based.
Competency has three components:

. Skills
. Attitude
Based on your curriculum & according to the year of residency, required level of competency for each rotation is
predetermined. Required level of competency with its coding is as the following:
