Answers
Ans 1.
Sum of m terms of an A.P. = m/2 [2a + (m -1)d]
Sum of n terms of an A.P. = n/2 [2a + (n -1)d]
m/2 [2a + (m -1)d] / n/2 [2a + (n -1)d] = m:n
⇒ [2a + md - d] / [2a + nd - d] = m/n
⇒ 2an + mnd - nd = 2am + mnd - md
⇒ 2an - 2am = nd - md
⇒ 2a (n -m) = d(n - m)
⇒ 2a = d
Ratio of m th term to nth term:
[a + (m - 1)d] / [a + (n - 1)d]
= [a + (m - 1)2a] / [a + (n - 1)2a]
= a [1 + 2m - 2] / a[1 + 2n -2]
= (2m - 1) / (2n -1)
So, the ratio of mth term and the nth term of the arithmetic series is (2m -
1) : (2n -1).

Ans 2. Let two tangent PT and QT are drawn to circle of center O as shown in
figure. Both the given tangents PT and QT touch to the circle at P and Q
respectively. We have to proof: length of PT = length of QT

Construction: draw a line segment, from center O to external point T

{touching point of two tangents}.
Now ∆POT and ∆QOT
We know, tangent makes right angle with radius of circle.
Here, PO and QO are radii. So, ∠OPT = ∠OQT = 90°
Now, both the triangles ∆POT and QOT are right angled triangle.
And a common hypotenuse OT of these [ as shown in figure ]
Now, come to the concept,

9
Aglasem Schools
∆POT and ∆QOT
∠OPT = OQT = 90°
Common hypotenuse OT
And OP = OQ [ OP and OQ are radii]
So, R - H - S rule of similarity
∆POT ~ ∆QOT
Hence, OP/OQ = PT/QT = OT/OT
PT/QT = 1
PT = QT [ hence proved]

Ans 3. Let the speed of the stream be x km/hr.

Therefore numbers are 2, 6, 10, 14 or 14, 10, 6, 2.

Ans 5.

Ans 12. Height of the cylindrical part, H=4 m

Height of the conical part,h=2.8 m

Radius of the base,r=2.1m

So,

⇒ l=√r2+h2

⇒ l=√(2.1)2+(2.8)2

⇒ l=√ 12.25

⇒ l=3.5m

The surface area of the canvas to be used =CSA of conical part +CSA of the
cylindrical part

=𝝅rl +2𝝅rH

=𝝅r(l+2H)

=22x2.1x(3.5+8)]

Cost of canvas=Rs 100/m2

So, total cost of canvas to be used =75.9 x100=Rs.7,590

∴amount that the association will have to pay for each tent=50%of Rs 7590

=Rs(50/100)X7590

=Rs (50/100)X7590

=Rs.3795

Therefore amount that the associations will have for 100 tent=Rs 3795

In the given figure, we can see that

⇒ ∠DAO = ∠BAO [Because, AB and AD are tangents in the circle]

So, we take this angle as 1, that is,

⇒ ∠DAO = ∠BAO = 1

Also in quad. ABCD, we get,

⇒ ∠ABO = ∠CBO { Because , BA and BC are tangents }

⇒Also, let us take this angle as 2. that is ,

⇒ ∠ABO = ∠CBO= 2

⇒ As same as, we can take for vertices C and as well as D.

⇒ Sum. of angles of quadrilateral ABCD = 360° { Sum of angles of quad is

360°}

Therefore,

⇒ 2 (1 + 2 + 3 + 4) = 360° { Sum. of angles of quad is - 360° }

⇒ 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 180°

Now , in Triangle AOB,

⇒ ∠BOA = 180 – ( a + b )

⇒ { Equation 1 }

Also, In triangle COD,

⇒ ∠COD = 180 – ( c + d )

⇒ { Equation 2 }

⇒From Eq. 1 and 2 we get,

⇒ Angle BOA + Angle COD

= 360 – ( a + b + c + d )

= 360° – 180°

= 180°

Ans 19. a₁₇ = 5 + 2a₈ and a₁₁ = 43

we know nth of an A.P. = a + (n-1) d

where

a = first term

d = common difference of A.P

Therefore

⇒ a + (17 - 1) d = 5 + 2{a + (8 - 1) d}

⇒ a + 16 d = 5 + 2a + 14d

⇒ 2d - a = 5 .......(1)

also

⇒ a + (11 - 1)d = 43

⇒ a + 10d = 43 .......(2)

solving 1 and 2 gives

⇒ 12d = 48

⇒d=4

⇒a=3

hence nth term would be

⇒ an = 3 + (n-1)4

⇒ an =3 + 4n - 4

⇒ an =4n -1
