1. Place the Technology board in the middle of the table.

2. Before setting up the Technology decks, remove the card Intersystem Diplomacy (tech II). Sort the
Technology cards into Level I, II, III, and IIII Technologies by their card backs and shuffle each deck.
Randomly distribute the 4 Level I Technology cards face-up onto the spaces marked .
3. Place the Level II, III, and IIII Technology decks face-down by the Technology board, close to their
respective columns.
4. Shuffle the Anarchist Event decks II and III. Distribute all 6 Level II cards face-down on the
spaces marked on the Technology board.
5. Distribute all 6 Level III Anarchist Event deck cards face-down on the spaces marked on the
Technology board.
6. Place the Exploration board next to the Technology board, with the 2-player side up. Sort the System cards
into A and B decks by their card backs.
7. Find the 4 Starting Systems from System Deck A, marked with a red “start” at the top. Randomly choose 1
of them and place them face-up onto the “A” spaces on the Exploration board. Shuffle the other 3 Starting
Systems back into System Deck A.
8. Remove the following cards from System Deck B: Ross 154 (base game), Zeta Leporis (expansion), StKM
1-554 (expansion). Shuffle System Deck B, then place the top 2 cards face-up onto the “B” spaces (there are
no Starting Systems in System Deck B).
9. Place System Decks A and B (as separate decks) next to the Exploration board.
10. The Achievement cards are not used in the solo game. Return them to the box.
11. Place the Ore crystals within easy reach.
12. Cover the Basic Spacefaring Technology box with the replacement tile for 2 players. Place the 4 Guild
cover tiles on the Technology board, covering the corresponding spaces below the Basic Spacefaring box
(for example, Terraforming Guild covers the top space, and so on). The Guild tiles cover additional action
slots, and may be unlocked by Events during the game.
13. Take the player pieces for one color and pick any Basic Faction mat. Ignore any additional Faction setup
bonuses. (It does not matter what Faction you choose, as the production tracks are identical.)
14. Places your Action pawn near the Basic Spacefaring Technology box on the Technology board.
15. Place a Food production disc on each of the 8 circular slots on the Population growth track on your
Faction mat.
16. Places an Ore production disc on each of the 8 circular slots on the Ore production track on your Faction
mat. Achievement/Placeholder discs are not used in the solo game.
17. Fill the Supply Columns on your Faction mat with resource cubes, with the Supply side up. There
should be a few cubes left over.
18. Take your remaining resource cubes and place 2 Population cubes ( side up) on or next to your Faction
mat.
19. Places 1 level-1 Spaceship cube ( side up) on the Sol location of the Exploration board.
20. Take 1 Ore for your supply and put in on your Faction mat.
21. Then, set up the components for the Anarchist Faction:
a. Place the Doomsday Tracker in the play area.
b. Choose an unused player color as the Anarchist Faction and take all components of that color (except
the Action pawn, which should be returned to the box).
c. Place 13 production/Achievement discs of the Anarchist Faction (disc type does not matter) face-down
on each circle of the Doomsday Tracker, except for the first space on the left, which does not have a
circle around it. The rightmost “Game End” space should be covered by a disc as well.
d. Place 1 of the Anarchist Faction color in Deep Space.
e. Set all remaining components of the Anarchist Faction to the side, within easy reach.
f. Separate the Anarchist Action cards into 3 stacks, one each for the Level I, II, and III cards, using
the Roman numeral on the lower left on the front of the card.
g. Shuffle the Level I Anarchist Action cards into a face-down deck and place it within your reach. This is
the Anarchist Faction’s starting deck. Leave some space next to the deck for a discard pile.
h. Shuffle the Level II Anarchist Action cards, then slide one Action card underneath each Level II Event
card on the Technology board, face-down, and with the right edge showing.
i. Repeat Step h for the Level III Anarchist Action cards and slide them underneath the Level III Event
cards.
22. There are 2 Level IIII Technologies that are modified for the solo mode:
a. Giga-Corporations—the first paragraph has no effect.
b. Parallel Universe Generators—it is worth 4 instead of the listed amount.
