1. With the help of an FCC crystal structure/structures, identify clearly (with a label, if necessary)
the four octahedral interstitial sites that can be found in the unit cell.

A total of six atoms surround the cube's face centers, but none of them are located in the body center,
which is empty. A regular octahedron can be created by joining the atoms at the face centers. As a
result, the body center of the unit cell of the fcc lattice contains an octahedral void.

There are 12 octahedral voids at the centers of the cube's 12 edges in addition to the one at the body's
center. Four unit cells share each octahedral void on the edge central region. Therefore, it is possible to
determine the number of octahedral voids per unit cell in a cubic tight packing as follows:

= 1 (In the center of the cubic) + 12 (at the center of the edges of the cubic) x 1/4

=1+3

=4
