Republic of the Dhilippines Department of Education REGION V - BICOL Office of the Regional Director July 28, 2023 REGIONAL MEMORANDUM NoJIYs, 2023 END-OF-SCHOOL-YEAR BREAK MATHEMATICS PROGRAM FOR GRADES 1 TO 3 a) A Schools Division Superintendents All others Concerned 1. In support to the Department of Education’s End-of-School-Year National Mathematics Program, and sustain the initiatives institutionalize by DepEd Region V to address learning gaps in mathematics, this Office shall conduct Mathematics Enhancement Program to interested incoming Grades 2 to 4 learners in all schools in Region V starting July 31, 2023. 2. The activity is voluntary in nature. Learners who will enroll in the program shall undergo Pre-Test using the Rapid Mathematics Assessment (RMA) to determine their current mathematical abilities, strengths, and areas that need improvement. Schedule for the test is on August 1 - 2, 2023 but duration may be shortened or extended depending on the number of learners to be assessed. The instructions on the administration of the RMA are indicated in the assessment materials and video explainer provided by the Central Office. 3. The prescribed class size for the program is 1:25 teacher-learner ratio. However, considering the varying number of volunteer learners in the school, the Schools Division Offices are not precluded in adopting mechanisms to ensure that all learners are properly accommodated and with available teachers to handle the class. They may involve more than one math teacher per school subject to the availability of funds and compliance to DepEd issuances. 4. Teachers in Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2 who will volunteer for the program are expected to be well-versed in the recommended instructional approaches for delivering math concepts. Moreover, they should demonstrate deeper understanding of foundational mathematical skills and numeracy. 5. Considering the schedule of the conduct of assessment, Schools Division Offices shall ensure that test materials will be available in time for the administration of the RMA. Teachers shalll categorize the results of the RMA into: intervention ~ if correct answers are less than 74.99% of the total items Consolidation - if correct answers are 75% to 84.99% of the total items Enhancement ~ if correct answers are equal or greater than 85% of the total items Carmen he thtee (8) categories shall only be applied to the data but not to group the jearners into three separate groups. Ali categories shall be handled by one teacher in one class applying differentiated instruction, jational Learning Camp with sixty to ninety-minute (60 to 90 minutes) focused instruction in Math allotted for each class. Schools may decide to conduct more than one lesson per day as deemed appropriate, applicable and beneficial to the learners fo ensure that the learners are equipped with all learning competencies covered in the program. Oc acintathematics learning experience for this program is intended to be fun, engaging, collaborative, and interactive by which most activities reflect the Concrete Pictorial Abstract (CPA) approach, play-based learning, differentiated instruction, hands-on learning, and utilization of manipulatives. 10. Considering the accessibility and appropriateness of the online activity and content, teachers are encouraged to use available educational software, online Platforms, and digital manipulatives in schools to supplement instruction and provide interactive learning experiences. 11, Teachers are required to utilize formative assessments to monitor learners’ Progress, identify areas for improvement, and provide timely feedback to learners, parents, and educators in accordance with DO 8 s. 2015 specifically the explanation on the purpose of formative assessment. Teachers will craft their own formative assessments that are aligned with the objectives and design of the mathematics learning experiences. 12.___{vailable learning resources developed and validated in the region, division, and schools that are parallel with the scope and aligned with the’ teaching teachers to reinforce their delivery and as additional references, formative assessments, and learning tasks. 13. Schools, through the guidance of the Schools Division Offices, may device strategies on the class scheduling that will benefit both the learners and the teachers. 14. Participation of both the learners and teachers in this program is voluntary. 15. _ Benefits for teachers who will be involved in this program, reproduction of assessment tools and intervention materials for Grades 1 to 3 EOSY Break Mathematics Program shall be consistent with the relevant and applicable issuances by the Central Office. 16.
