The Kite and The Butterfly

It is a windy day. A boy is playing in the field with his

friends.

They are playing with a kite.

The strong wind makes the kite fly higher and higher.

The kite flies just below the clouds. He is very pleased to

be

flying so high.

The kite is enjoying himself very much. As he dances

about

in the air, he sees a butterfly down below.

The kite feels proud of himself. He wants to make fun of

the butterfly.

“After all,” he thinks, “I am flying higher than she is.’’

The kite says to the butterfly, “Yoo-hoo Miss butterfly, can

you fly

as high as I?’’

“No, I can’t,” says the butterfly, “but isn’t it sad that you
are tied to a string?’’

“The string!’’ cries the kite as he looks behind. He has

forgotten about the string!

The butterfly adds, “You see, I can fly wherever I want.

Can you do the same?’’
The kite does not know what to say.

“Goodbye, my friend,’’ say the butterfly as she flies away.

The kite wants to follow her, but the wind carries him the
other way.
