Long ago, an old woman and her son lived (live) in a small village. Her son was called Malin Kundang.
They are (be) very poor but they loved (love) each other very much. One day Malin Kundang told
(tell) his mother that he would went (go) to town and worked (work) there. At first his mother doesn’t
(does) not allow him but finally she let him go with tears. Malin Kundang worked (work) hard in a big
town and in a short time he became (become) a rich man. However he completely forgot (forget) his
poor old mother. Some years later he sailed (sail) to a harbor near his village. When his mother heard
(hear) about this news she came (come) to met (meet) him. Malin Kundang pretended (pretend) not
to knew (know) her. He said, “You‟re not my mother. Go away !” His mother became (become) very
sad and before she went(go) she said, “Oh, Malin Kundang, you are (be) a wicked son. You‟ll never be
safe now. You and your money will turn to stone.” Some days later his ship left the harbor. The sea is
(be) calm but when he reached (reach) the open sea there are (be) a great storm. The ship was
drowned. Malin Kundang and his money changed (change) into a stone. Now people called (call) it
Batu Si Malin Kundang. We can saw (see) the stone from Air Manis, a village on the coast of West
Sumatra near Padang.
