Software as a Service
- Elevating Efficiency & Flexibility

SaaS (Software as a service) is a software-delivery method that allows users to access an

application with internet browser regardless of location and device. Instead of installing and
maintaining applications, users simply access via the internet, freeing themselves from complex
software and hardware management. The service provider looks after the application's
performance, technical support, and keeps it up to date. In this concept, instead of buying an
application users pay on subscription basis as long as they need it. Therefore, the users don’t
need to worry about technical issues, which is cost-efficient for organizations as they don’t need
to hire IT experts for maintenance. It’s an ongoing experience that gives the client continual
value.

SaaS is literally everywhere nowadays. From organizations like Google and Microsoft to small
apps that offer data cleanup, almost every type of software we use daily is SaaS. When SaaS
was introduced to the market, it quickly started replacing old-school software on a disk. Because
it offers a much better experience by providing both a better value and more convenient user
interfaces. SaaS is hosted in the cloud and to access a SaaS application, users must have access
to a reliable internet connection. Before SaaS was introduced, if an organization wanted to
update the software on their computers, they had to purchase compact disks containing the
updates or download in their system. It was a very time-consuming endeavor.

Generally, SaaS follows a freemium model where users get a free trial for limited time and then
for further continuation of service, users must pay the subscription fee. For example, Microsoft
Office 365, Google Workspace etc. Also, there are many free social media websites like
Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn which can be accessed both through web browser and by
downloading dedicated applications.

SaaS has several benefits that attract individual users as well as organizations to choose SaaS
over traditional desktop software. Benefits such as both time & cost-effective as the user or

organization don’t need to hire IT professionals for maintenance, which saves both money &
additional work hours. Ongoing development as the software goes through continuous
evaluation, which increases the effectiveness & addition of new features day by day. Also, SaaS
focuses more on mobile friendliness as more than 90% of the users access the web through
mobile at least once. Increase adoption, scalability, & remote work opportunity, size &
functionality and improve data management as data saved routinely in the cloud. Also, the SaaS
model works well for human resources and it improves contact management through better
organizing and tracking of information about customers and sales leads.

Beside all these tremendous benefits, SaaS has some concerning issues, such as it’s highly
dependent on stable internet connectivity. Also cloud security risk, data security & ownership
(Though in many cases ownership is kept to the user or organization), slower speed during the
pick hours are the concerning factors. However, SaaS has now become an undetachable part of
our life which is evolving day by day. According to people mobile optimization will be SaaS’s
priority, On the other hand another group states that AI will be the focus factor.
