LANDING GEAR
13 LANDING GEAR
13.1 General
A. General
1. The landing gear has a forward retracting nose gear and two (2) retractable main gears
mounted partially in the side pods and partially in the fuselage. They are hydraulically
operated and electrically controlled. Gear doors enclose the landing gear bays. The main
landing gear supports a three (3) section door to restore fairing contour when landing gear
is up and locked.
2. Each main gear assembly has an oleo pneumatic shock absorber and is equipped with
two (2) wheels. Each main wheel is fitted with brakes and antiskid.
3. The two (2) wheel nose gear assembly includes an oleo pneumatic shock absorber and a
nose wheel steering system.
4. In case of hydraulic or electrical power supply failure, the landing gear can be extended by
gravity.
13.2.1 Description
13.2.1.1 MAIN LANDING GEAR
NOTE:
Gear must be considered down if one system indicates three (3) green lights.
Each system has its own WOW circuit: WOW 1 into MFC module 1B and
WOW 2 into MFC module 2B.
The WOW signals are used by the MFC to have the system using WOW infor-
mations switched to the appropriate air/ground configuration.

downlock is engaged. UNLK comes on red if:
1. The corresponding gear is not locked when the lever is down; or
2. The uplock box is not in the open position on the ground.

13.3.1 Description
A. Nosewheel steering is provided via a servomechanism mechanically controlled from the flight
compartment and powered by the blue hydraulic system. Control is achieved using the
steering control hand wheel mounted on the Captain’s (CA) lateral console. Nose steering
angle is ±60°. Nosewheel deflection of ±91° is possible during towing with no pressure in the
system.
B. An internal mechanism brings the wheel back to centered position when the aircraft is off the
ground.
C. A swivel valve shuts off hydraulic pressure to the steering system if the nose landing gear is
not locked down. Pressure is also shut off by a solenoid valve if the main and nose gear shock
absorbers are not compressed.
NOTE:
If any gear leaves the ground after all gears have been compressed, the steering control is
maintained as long as one gear at least stays on the ground.
13.3.2 Controls
13.3.2.1 NW STEERING SWITCH
A. The steering handwheel controls the nosewheel steering angle up to 60° in both directions:
1. Clockwise: Steering to the right
2. Counterclockwise: Steering to the left.
NOTE:
Nosewheel steering is self centering after liftoff.

13.4 Brake-Antiskid
13.4.1 Description
13.4.1.1 WHEEL AND BRAKES
A. The four (4) main gear wheels are equipped with multidisc brakes, each operated by
hydraulically powered pistons.
B. Two (2) modes are available:
1. Normal: The flight crew controls the brakes via the brake pedals (supplied by the green
system)
2. Emergency and braking: The flight crew controls the brakes via the emergency and
parking brake handle (supplied by the blue system).
C. Each brake is equipped with an automatic adjuster, a wear indicator pin, and an overheat
detector.
D. The main gear wheels are braked automatically as soon as the flight crew sets the LDG GEAR
lever UP.
E. The main gear wheels are fitted with three (3) fusible plugs (overheat protection) and one (1)
pressure relief valve (overpressure protection).
F. These devices protect against tire and wheel burst in the event of overpressure overheat at
fuse location. These fusible plugs are designed to release internal pressure if the wheel
temperature exceeds 177°C / 350°F.
G. The wheels are fitted with tubeless tires.
13.4.2 Controls
13.4.2.1 PILOT BRAKE PEDALS
CAUTION:
Brake handle applies braking without antiskid operation.
NOTE:
• In case of hydraulic power system failure, the brake accumulator enables at least six (6)
braking applications.
• If brake handle is not in the fully released position, amber PRKG BRK caution light comes
on, on EWD, and is taken into account by the TO CONFIG warning system.

2 Test pb • Pressing the button initiates an automatic sequential test to check the
primary antiskid protection capabilities of the system. The test duration is
approximately three (3) seconds in flight and six (6) seconds on ground. If
initiated on ground when brake pedals are pushed, the test duration is
sufficient to enable observation of the brake compression and release.
• WHEELS A-SKID amber caution is displayed on EWD.
CAUTION:
When engines are running on ground, the flight crew must ensure that the parking brake is set
before performing this test.
NOTE:
The test is inhibited if wheel speed exceeds 17kt.
B. This indicator is used to read Brake Accumulator Hydraulic Pressure if batteries are OFF, for
ground towing operations or in case of the main indication loss.
C. If the switch is activated, the indicator is energized for two (2) min.
D. If the hydraulic pressure of the accumulator is below 1700 psi or above 3100 psi, the indicator
displays blinks.
E. Brake Accumulator Hydraulic pressure is displayed in green. The displayed value has to be
multiplied by 1000 (as described by the legend on the front face).
No failure detected

LIGHTS
14 LIGHTS
14.1 Description
14.1.1 General
A. Different systems provide aircraft lighting:
1. Controlled from the cockpit:
a. Cockpit light.
b. Cabin signs light.
c. Emergency light.
d. Exterior light.
2. Controlled from the cabin crew panel:
a. Cabin light.
b. Emergency light.
c. Rear cargo compartment light.
3. Controlled from the cargo door operating panel:
a. FWD cargo compartment light.

1 Navigation Lights Regulatory lights are on the wingtip (coverage 110°) and
on the rear tail cone (coverage 140°).
2 Taxi and T.O. Lights Two (2) lights are one on each side of the nose landing
gear leg.
3 Landing Lights Two (2) landing lights are laterally in the forward main
landing gear fairing bay.
4 Wing Lights Two (2) lights are one on each side of the fuselage. These
lights provide lighting to the wing leading edges and the
engine air intakes in order to enable preventive check in
icing conditions.
6 Strobe Lights These lights are in each wing tip and in the tail cone. They
flash white and are supplemental identification light.

7 Logo Lights Two (2) lights are one (1) on each side of the lower surface
of the horizontal stabilizer. They provide lighting to the
company logo on both sides of the vertical stabilizer.
A. One (1) light is in the toilet, it turns on by locking the associated door.
B. 6V DC supplies emergency evacuation path marking near the floor (photoluminescent
system), exit, ceiling, and exterior emergency lights.
C. Two (2)sources are available:
1. DC STBY BUS via a voltage divider.
2. 6V integral batteries charged from the DC STBY BUS with a 10 min capacity.
D. In case of system activation, the DC STBY BUS supplies the lights. If this source fails, then the
batteries automatically take over.
E. During flight with DC STBY BUS only, the cockpit lighting is only:
1. RH DOME light with the possibility to switch it off.
2. Left Main Instrument panel (MIP) below the glareshield.
3. Overhead panel light which provides lighting to the pedestal.
NOTE:
For emergency flash lights, Refer to EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT.
