It is suitable for boiler, super heater, water wall, down comer, economizer and circulating tubes of high pressure boilers. This Expander has many features. 1) The Expander has three expanding rollers and three flaring rollers. 2) 3) 4) Rollers are overlapped to prevent ridging of tube, and rollers held at correct angle to mandrel for proper rate of fe. and for quick, easy release of mandrel. Tapered rollers perfectly matched to mandrel taper assure uniform diameter throughout entire rolled portion of the tube. Liberal radius on front end of rollers prevents sharp shoulder inside tube, thus minimizing stress concentration fatigue. 1a Pace EXPANDING, Rollers will not-fall in or out of frame when mandrel is with-drawn from the Expander. All rollers and mandrels are precisely ground after hardening. Hence, perfectly round and straight, rollers assure long life and smooth, proper tube expanding. Special high alloy steels chosen for superior fatigue re- sistance are treated in automatic electrically controlled furnaces to assure the longest possible service life. FLARING ROLLER ROLLER 1) 2) MANDREL | DRUM HEADER SHORT TUBE SHEET FRAME How to operate With-draw the mandrel, and rollers will sink into the frame. The frame should be inserted into the tube. In this case, the frame should be stopped to insert into the tube when the boundary between the expanding roller and the flaring roller arrived at about 3 mm front of the tube end. The mandrel should be thrusted forward, and rollers should be contacted with inside of the tube. The mandrel should be rotated clockwise. After proper expanding, the mandrel should be rotated coun- terclockwise, then it will come out from the tube. Short mandrel are usually used in conjunction with gear drives or universal extensions for tubes in round or square headers. Rollers, mandrel and inside of tube should be lubricated with lubrication ofl. Knock the roller retainer by the hammer, and the roller retainer is with-drawn from the frame with the spring pin. Then rollers will be taken out from the frame. Assembly is opposite of overhaul. Maintenance Inspect the rollers and the mandrel after the job has been completed. Replace any damaged rollers or mandrels immediately. The Expander should be cleaned thoroughly with a light oil and be stored in a manner which will avoid possibility of parts rusting. Immersing the Expander in a tub of light oil is recommended.
