education and training of investors. The politics of denial against non-Turkish, non-Sunni
populations has resulted in claims for recognition, justice, and institutional equality among all of the
suppressed groups, but the question of how to confront and reconcile them occurs in parallel,
disconnected discussions. Their reconciliation initiatives are strongly shaped by the violence and
injustice to which they were subjected by the state. The point of my short paper is here to draw a
relation between the migrant, the refugee and the crisis of the nation-state in a globalised
environment. In specific, the effects of overconfidence bias, familiarity bias, loss aversion bias,
disposition bias, availability bias, representativeness bias, confirmation bias and herding bias are
investigated. International law, generated mainly by states’ consensus, now encompasses prohibitions
against genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes, within legally binding human rights
regimes at national, regional and international levels. The deterritorialisation of power (par. 1) and of
culture (par. 2) pose a great problem for the survival of the nation-state, historically based on
sovereignty over nation and territory. Another, often overlooked, initiative that offers an alternative
approach to state-led practices of reconciliation is the 2009 restoration of the Surp Giragos Church in
