F or 53-year-old Anton Bruckner, it was a critical moment. He stood

before the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra to conduct the premiere
of his Third Symphony. After years of rejection, this was his
opportunity to hear his music played by a world-class orchestra.
But soon after the opening notes, the audience began streaming for the
exits. When the symphony ended, only a few people remained. Instead of
being a triumph, this was a crushing defeat. Overwhelmed, Bruckner
stood on the podium, tears streaming down his cheeks.
Following this, many colleagues urged him to stop writing symphonies.
After all, no one understood them. But Bruckner, a devout Christian, felt
this would be a compromise. He knew someday God would call him and
ask, “Where is the talent that I have given you?”
He felt he had to obey God. Eventually, Bruckner would be acclaimed as a
master. But this would have been impossible without his commitment.
Every day, you make many decisions. What should you do with your
time? Your resources? Study the example left by Jesus—an example of
obedience and faithfulness. He was always sensitive to the leading of the
Father (John 8:29) and always faithful.
Think about the decisions you will make today. Make sure you follow
God’s leading and avoid the path of compromise. Surrender your life anew
to Him. Seek to be faithful to fulfill the goals He gives you.

GOD HAS NOT PLANNED ANY DEFEATS FOR YOU!
J esus engaged the enemy in combat in the
FULLNESS of the Holy Spirit and conquered
him.
God has planned for you to do the same!
Say it again:
“...I am a part of God's endtime plan. This is
my year of spiritual conquest. God has not
planned any defeats for me. He has planned
victory for me in every circumstance, every
trial, every temptation.”
When God sent Jesus out into the battle, in the
form of human flesh, Jesus was to defeat Satan
FULLY EQUIPPED and FULLY PREPARED to
win the battle, so you would know that it is
possible for you to do the same.
Say aloud: God has planned for me to be FULLY been bowed down for 18 years,
EQUIPPED and FULLY PREPARED for battle!
God anointed Jesus with the Holy Spirit. In the
Jordan river the Holy Spirit descended upon
Him in the form of a dove. He was BAPTIZED.
And, as a result of that baptism, He was FULL
of and CONTROLLED by the Holy Spirit
(Luke 4:1).
He was led by the Spirit into the wilderness
where He was further prepared and, praise God, eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the

He broke the power of sin: He told the man sick
of palsy,
"Man, thy sins are forgiven thee"
(Luke 5:20).
The scribes and Pharisees said to themselves,
"Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who
can forgive sins, but God alone?"
Jesus told them, "Whether is easier, to say, Thy
sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and
walk? But that ye may know that the Son of
man hath power upon earth to forgive sins..."
(Luke 5:23-24).
He broke the power of sickness: He told the
woman who had a spirit of infirmity and had

(Luke 13:12).
When the ruler of the synagogue became angry
because Jesus had healed her on the Sabbath,
Jesus told him,
"...ought not this woman, being a daughter of
Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these
sabbath day?"
(Luke 13:16)
He broke the power of death: When Jesus cried
out with a loud voice to Lazarus, "Lazarus,
come forth!" Lazarus came out of that grave
bound hand and foot, with his grave clothes still
on him. (John 11:43-44)

Now that you are beginning to get a glimpse of

the powerful position of victory God has
planned for His people, ask yourself, "Am I
living my life with this same power and
anointing?"
Look around you. How many people do you
know who have been baptized in the Holy
Spirit and are operating in the same power an
authority that was demonstrated in the life of
Jesus and the early Church.
Personally, I can't think of very many people
who have truly bee baptized... totally
immersed... and are living in the FULLNESS of
the Holy Spirit, where there is a continual flow
of the dunamis miracle-working power of God
in their lives.
I know a lot of Christians who have received an
infilling of the Holy Spirit, who have received
the gift of the prayer language of the Holy Spirit,
and some who have other gifts of the Spirit
operating in their lives. But, there are very few
Christians who have had an experience that is
producing the power to ring cripples out of
wheelchairs, to open the eyes of the blind to
cause the deaf to hear and the dumb to speak.
We have the blessing. We have the head
knowledge Where is the power?
There are many reasons why the Church, as a
whole, today is no longer ministering the Word
in a demonstration of power. I don't want to
dwell on them. No one likes to deal with
negatives. However, if we are to rise up in the
power of Almighty God in this endtime hour,
we must deal with things as they are. We must
"take the mask off." We must "strip ourselves”
and face the truth even if it hurts.
There are two major reasons why I feel the
Church is not operating this power and
authority God intended for us.
1. Most Christians do not understand what the
experience of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit
is, or what it means to walk in the fullness of
the Spirit.
2. Many Christians think that once they have
received the The Person of the Trinity... the
Holy Spirit...when they are saved, that works
automatically in their hearts. They stop at the
point of blessing.
Too long we have placed the emphasis in the
wrong place. We have emphasized the gift of

speaking in tongues, or the prayer language of
the Holy Spirit. I don't know how some of you
are going to react to this next statement, and I
hope you don't misunderstand me.
It is possible for a person to have the prayer
language of the Holy Spirit
and speak in tongues and not be baptized...full
of and controlled by...tt Holy Spirit.
I am not trying to minimize the beautiful
manifestation of the pray language of the Holy
Spirit, or minimize the reason why God gives to
us the ability to speak with other tongues. It is a
dynamic gift of the Ho Spirit given to the
Church for a purpose:
"For he that speaketh in c unknown tongue
speaketh not unto men, but unto God..."
(I Corinthia1 14:2).
The gift of speaking in tongues is like one of the
gifts of the Spirit (Corinthians 12:8-10)... word
of wisdom, word of knowledge, faith, gift,
healing, working of miracles, prophecy,
discerning of spirits, tongue interpretation of
tongues.

Holy Spirit. I pray in tongues every day of my
life. I walk down the street and I pray in
tongues.
However, nowhere in the Scriptures will you
find the promise of the Baptism of the Holy
Spirit as given by Jesus Christ dependent upon
the manifestation of the gift of tongues.
I am not trying to tell you that “other tongues"
are not an evidence of what we call the infilling
of the Holy Spirit. There is great scriptural
evidence that this manifestation flowed through
Christians in the early Church, as the Spirit
manifested itself in the life of the believer. What
I am emphasizing is the fact that we have
focused our attention on one of the
manifestations of the Holy Spirit, rather than on
the fullness and complete, unlimited,
unmeasurable work of the Holy Spirit Himself.
We have focused our attention on a one-time
emotional experience, rather than an
experience where there is a continual flow of
the Holy Spirit in our lives.
I would say that 99.9 percent of the Church and

99.9 percent of all the charismatics stopped at
the point of blessing. Many Christians, once
they have an experience where they speaking
tongues, stop.
They say, "Praise the Lord, I've got it!" Instead
of pressing on in the Spirit until the power of
God is manifested in their lives, they sit back
because they think they have "arrived,"
spiritually speaking, and glory in the
manifestation of tongues. They are so filled with
the joy of this experience... the real purpose of
the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is overlooked.
They stop at the point of blessing, when God
has something far greater to possess them.
Another major reason why so many Christians
are not FILLED and BAPTIZED with the Holy
Spirit is because they think the Holy Spirit
works automatically in their lives.
Nothing is automatic. The believer is not
automatically FULL of and controlled by the
Spirit simply because the Spirit is dwelling in
him. There must be a dependence and constant gives them one final commission before
yielding to the Holy Spirit. In the measure that
we are willing to submit and lean upon Him for not be able to face the enemy in their own
power, is the extent to which the Holy Spirit
will have control of our wills... our thoughts...
our emotions... our entire beings.
Remember Jesus' strategy in dealing with Satan: the city until you are clothed with power from

At this point, some of you who have received

mean to be FULL of the Spirit?"
To answer these questions, let's look at the
dramatic change that took place in the lives of
the disciples and the early Church.
GOD DID NOT PLAN ANY DEFEATS FOR
THE EARLY CHURCH
Weary... afraid... discouraged... the disciples
and others of Jesus' faithful followers had
secretly gathered together in Jerusalem behind
locked door.
As long as Jesus had been with them, they had
felt safe and secure. They had been full of faith.

Jesus had given them power to heal the sick,
and even the demons were in subjection to
them (Luke 10:17).
Yes, Jesus had risen from the dead as He had
promised. He had appeared to them on various
occasions. But, it was only a matter of time until
He would be leaving to go back to the Father in
heaven.
After Jesus had gone and they were alone, what
would happen to them then? How would they
be able to carry on the work of building the
Kingdom of God? The people had watched
Jesus die in disgrace on the cross. Who would
believe that He was the Messiah?
What a scene of despair and defeat!
But, wait just a moment! Suddenly, in the midst
of this moment of defeat. Jesus comes on the
scene. He appears in the room where they are
sitting (Luke 24:36). He calms their fears and
ascending into heaven. Knowing they would
strength, Jesus tells them:
“And behold, I am sending forth the promises
of my Father upon you: but you ate to stay in
on high.”
(Luke 24:49, NAS)
God did not plan for the disciples to be
defeated. He had a plan of victory.

What was the promise to which Jesus was
referring? According to plan, God made a
promise to Israel... His chosen people:
“A new heart also will I give you, and a new
spirit will I put within you: and I will take
away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I
will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put
my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in
my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments,
and do them.”
(Ezekiel 36:26-27)
He promised to give His people a "new heart"
and to place His Spirit WITHIN them.
Now, look at Joel 2:28-29. God promised:

“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I
will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your old men shall dream dreams, your young
men shall see visions: And also upon the
servants and upon the handmaids in those days
will I pour out my spirit.”
God promised to pour out His Spirit upon all
flesh. And, as a result of that outpouring their
sons and daughters would prophesy, the old
men would dreams, and the young men would
see visions.
JESUS DID NOT PLAN FOR THE DISCIPLES
TO FACE THE ENEMY IN A WEAKENED
POSITION
Earlier in their meeting together in the upper
room before His crucifixion, Jesus had warned
the disciples that He was going away. He told
them that they would be hated, thrown out of
the synagogues, persecuted, killed. But,
regardless of these circumstances they faced He
told them:
"...Do not let your heart be troubled, neither
let it be afraid - stop allowing yourselves to be
agitated and disturbed; and do not permit
yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and
cowardly and unsettled"
(John 14:27, TAB).
In the midst of the trials and testings they were
facing, Jesus did not plan for them to be
defeated. He promised to send the same Holy
Spirit upon them that He had received.
He said:
“If you (really) love Me you will keep (obey)
My commands. And I will ask the Father, and
He will give you another Comforter
(Counselor, Helper; Intercessor, Advocate,
Strengthener and Standby) that He may remain
with you forever; The Spirit of Truth, Whom
the world cannot receive (welcome, take to its
heart), because does not see Him, nor now and
recognize Him. But you know and recognize
Him, for He lives with you (constantly) and
will be in you.”
(John 14:15-17, TAB)
Jesus told them that He was going to send the
Comforter (Holy Spirit) Who would remain and
be IN THEM.

Jesus said:
.
...It is expedient for you that I go a y: for if I go
not away, the Comforter will not come unto
you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
(John 16:7)
Jesus had no intention of leaving His disciples
alone to face the onslaught of the enemy in a -
weakened condition. He was sending the
promise... the Holy Spirit... to live within them.
And, as a result of this Baptism of the Holy
Spirit, they would receive POWER.
Jesus didn't say to wait in the city until they got
one goose bump on top of another.
He didn't say to wait until they received the gift
of speaking in other tongues.
He said to go into the city and stay there until
they were CLOTHED with POWER from on
high.
And, just before He ascended into heaven, Jesus
said:
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy
Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be
witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all
Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost
part of the earth.”
(Acts 1:8)
Circle the word “power" in this verse. Draw a
line out into the margin and write the word
“dunamis”. Jesus was sending the same
dunamis miracle-working power upon them that
had enabled Him to defeat Satan, to remain
with the disciples and be in them!
The disciples watched as Jesus ascended into
heaven on a cloud. When they could no longer
see Him, they returned to Jerusalem to wait for
the Holy Spirit to be poured out upon them.
On the Day of Pentecost, they were all FILLED
with the Holy Ghost! The rushing, mighty wind,
the cloven tongues of fire, and tongues we all
outward manifestations of the promised
outpouring of the Holy Spirit!
JESUS ANOINTED THE DISCIPLES WITH
POWER!
Now, let's look at the results of this great
outpouring. The disciple who had been afraid...
discouraged... hiding behind closed doors...

were boldly proclaiming that Jesus was the
promised Messiah Who had been resurrected
from the dead.
Peter preached a sermon under the anointing
of the Holy Spirit and three thousand souls
were saved and added to the Church”
(Acts 2:41).
Peter and John met a lame man outside the
temple and, in the Name of Jesus,
COMMANDED him to walk
(Acts 3:6-7).
Peter was so FULL of the power and anointing
of the Holy Spirit that people were healed
even when his shadow passed by
(Acts 5:15).
Jerusalem became a healing center! Multitudes
of people from the cities surrounding Jerusalem
heard about a Holy Ghost revival in that city.
They brought the sick and those who were
tormented by evil spirits,
"and they were healed everyone"
(Acts 5:16).
In the face of death, boldly and fearlessly the
apostles continued to preach and teach about
Jesus. When they were thrown into prison, God
sent an angel to open the prison doors (Acts
5:17-19). They were beaten and warned not to
speak in the Name of Jesus, but "they ceased
not to teach and preach Jesus Christ" (Acts
5:42).
They could not be defeated... nothing could
stop them!
The apostles and faithful believers faced the
enemy in the FULLNESS of the Holy Spirit.
They literally turned their world upside down.
They did not rely on man-made techniques to
reach the world; they relied on the power of the Was the purpose of the power so that the
Holy Spirit that REMAINED in them.
They didn't need radio or television to draw the
people. The dunamis miracle power of God
had transformed them into LIVING WITNESSES
of the resurrection power of Jesus Christ. They
had an EXPERIENCE... personal encounter...
with the Holy Spirit. They didn't just talk about world. And, as a result of the Baptism of the
the power of Jesus Christ to save, heal and
deliver... they produced the proof.
As a result of this manifestation of the dunamis witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus:

miracle power of God they were able to
evangelize their world. When the people heard
and seen the miracles that were done in the
Name of Jesus, they knew the power of God
was real. They confessed their sins and believed
on the Lord Jesus Christ.
On one occasion, Peter traveled to Lydda where
he met a man who had been sick of palsy eight
years. He said to him, "Aeneas, Jesus Christ
maketh thee whole: arise, and make thy bed.
And he arose immediately"
(Acts 9:34).
The result...
"And all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw
him, and turned to the Lord"
(Acts 9:35).
I have seen this happen so many times during
our meetings on the foreign fields. Following a
service where the miracle power of God is
released and people are healed and delivered...
the blind see, the deaf hear, and the lame
walk... the word spreads like wildfire. The next
night, thousands of people from the surrounding
areas pack the grounds until there is only a
small area for the platform.
What was it that Jesus told the disciples they
would receive after the Holy Ghost was poured
out upon them?
POWER!
Say it aloud: “POWER".
What was the purpose of that power? Was it so
the apostles could get puffed up and say, "Look
at us... look at the tremendous ministry God
has given us"?
No.
apostles could build multimillion-dollar
buildings as a tribute to the power of God?
No.
Jesus said the purpose of the manifestation of
power was to be WITNESSES of Him to the
Holy Spirit, the early Church did just that.
“And with great power gave the apostles

and great grace was upon them all.”
(Acts 4:33)
The result of this manifestation of power in their
lives was evangelism... bringing lost souls into
the Kingdom of God.
YOU CAN HAVE THIS SAME
DEMONSTRATION OF POWER IN YOUR
LIFE
The evidence of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit
in the lives of the Christians in the early Church
was not just a one-time, emotional experience
they received on the Day of Pentecost. It was
not just the manifestation of speaking with
other tongues.
The evidence of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit
in their lives was the demonstration of the
dunamis miracle-working power of God, which
proved to the world that Jesus was Who He
claimed to be... the Son of the living God!
The power is not the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.
It is a manifestation... an outward sign... that a
Christian has a personal, vibrant, working
relationship with the Holy Spirit within.
Many Christians today are seeking a
manifestation of the power not realizing that
the power comes as a result of a yielded,
dedicated separated life. The power is released children, and to all that are afar off, even as
in the lives of those who are willing to walk
and live in the FULLNESS of the Spirit.
Right now, the Spirit of God is bringing you to
a very crucial point in your Christian
experience. He knows that you are hungry...
that you have been crying out to have the
power of God flowing in a continual stream in
your life. He knows because He has placed that called and chosen me. God has not planned
desire in your heart.
Remember what I told you. You are part of
God's endtime plan. We are living in the time
known as the "climax of the ages." As one of
God's chosen people, He has planned to bring unbelief and take the limitation off what God
you into a new maturity.
Where are you in your Christian experience?
Can you honestly look at your life and see the
evidence of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit?
Are you living your life... facing the day-to-day power God can be released in your life.

God in your life where you are able to say, like

If you are not experiencing that same power
and anointing, I have news for you.
You can!
You may be thinking, "That could never
happen in my life. I could never have the
power of God flowing through me as it did

"Sea'' represents nations. God Says, “I will
put his hand in the sea. I will let him
influence nations.” People who are anointed
will influence the world!
“I will set his hand also in the sea, and his
right hand in the rivers. He shall cry unto
me, Thou art my father, my God, and the
rock of my salvation. Also I will make him
my firstborn, higher than the kings of the
earth.”
Psalm 89:25-27
This applies to the kings of the earth. But let
us keep going. Look now at the sixth result
of the
anointing: “My mercy will I keep for him
for evermore and my covenant shall stand
fast with him” (verse 28). The sixth result of
the anointing is, the mercy of God will never
leave your life.
Now look at the seventh result in verse 29:

Once you are anointed, your children will
be influenced by the anointing on your life.
Get ready for the day when your little boy
five years of age gets up in the morning and
says, “Thus says the Lord God of Israel” Get
ready… you shall see it happen. The Bible
says this is what is going to happen.
THERE ARE THREE ANOINTINGS THAT
ARE VITAL IN YOUR LIFE!
There are three anointings that you
absolutely must receive. These three
anointings are vital in your life. You must
have them. You must go from one to the
next. You cannot step over the first or the
second… you must keep going through with
them. Seek a higher calling… seek a higher
position in God.
The first anointing we receive - I call it the
''leper's anointing” - is the anointing that
delivers from leprosy. Leviticus 14 talks
about the leper being cleansed by the blood,
and then anointed. What is that first
anointing? That first anointing comes when
you and I are born again. Every believer,
once born again, receives an anointing.
The Bible says all of us have the anointing in
our lives, but that anointing is the anointing
that comes at salvation. However, there are
two other anointings most of us do not even
know about, and, may I say, a lot of us are
not even walking in.
Ministers, quit preaching without the
anointing! Without the anointing, your
sermon is dead and boring. Do you know
why people are not in churches today?
Because there is no power... no anointing.
I am going to give you “keys'' that are going
to pack the house of the Lord.
I want to give you “keys'' that if your church
is not on the mountain top, they are going to
find that they can get there.
I am going to give you “keys” that will
release the Holy Spirit of God on you and
the supernatural through you.
I John 2:27 declares:

ometime time ago, in response to a call I
S
received, I went to a hotel room to visit a
man who had been part of our ministry…
who had become what I considered a friend. He
worked with us... and did a lot of various things.
When I got to the hotel room, he just literally
broke down and cried. We two men stood there
and cried on each other's shoulders and we
hugged one another in brotherly affection and
love.
Then he began to tell me the story of how his
business was being depleted, his marriage was
being decimated, and how he himself had been
devastated and shattered psychologically and
emotionally, and how difficult it was for him,
even now, to even think about doing something
for God. Yet, he had a heart for God. He
wanted to serve God. But with all of the
catastrophies that were going on in his life, he
was having a hard time.
What had happened was, he had a man who
was employed by him as a manager, a person to
take care of the business while he was gone
from the state... only to find that after a year's
time the man that he had trusted so implicitly
had, by this man's testimony, proved to be
immoral and had engaged in financial
chicanery.
He had trusted this man so completely that
when he found out these things, it just

shattered him even more than the business. He
confronted the man, and the man would not
repent, so he fired him. The man went off to
work for someone else and started another
business just like his and took business away
from him.
When he was telling me this story, it took quite
a while. It just came out in little bursts from
time to time. Finally, in compassion, when he
had finished, I knelt down in front of him and
put my arm around
him and said, “Brother, all I want to be, is just
be a friend to you!
He looked up at me very quickly and very
sharply and said, “I've heard that line before,
because every one of those who hurt me said
they just wanted to be my friend, He said,
“What is a friend? Does anybody today know
what a friend really is?”
I was taken aback, because I genuinely,
honestly, sincerely, even reverently, wanted to
be his friend. When he said that, it caused me to
begin to wonder and question.
After I left the hotel room, we had a meeting
with our executive staff in Southern California,
in the Hyatt-Regency. In the executive staff
meeting, as we sat around the dinner table,
where we were going to dine and discuss a

number of things, I asked the question, “To you
men that are here right now, what is a friend?
I want you to tell me what you honestly think a
friend is.”
Here is the answer from the first man: “A friend
is someone who knows all my faults and
accepts me just as I am.
The next one in turn said, “A friend is someone
who - loves me enough to speak into my life
and tell me the truth that I need to hear.”
The third one said, “A friend is someone with
whom I can be transparent, vulnerable and
honest”
The next one thought a while and then said,
“The measure of a friend is the degree to which
I can share my life with him and not have it
come back at me.”
I asked the next one and he said, “A friend is
someone I can count on in a crisis.
Another one said, “A friend to me is like what
Jonathan and David had in the Bible.”
And the last one. said, “A friend, to me, is a guy much a man may say he is a friend, if he has

When it was all done and I had written down
the replies of each one, they described “one
Friend to me, Whose Name is... JESUS!
THE DEEPEST WOUNDS WE RECEIVE ARE
OFTEN INFLICTED BY “FRIENDS”!
King David had a friend by the name of
Ahithophel. Ahithophel had spoken like an
oracle into his life. David had trusted him with
his life... had trusted him implicitly. We read in
Psalms some of David's words over this lost
friend, who in the dissimulation that was caused
by Absalom's sedition, had left David's side to
join with the younger Absalom.
He had been deceived, distracted, dislocated
and was ultimately destroyed. Every time we are
seduced by something or someone to take us
away from the place that God has called us to,
immediately we become distracted. The
distraction causes a dislocation. After the
deception, the distraction and the dislocation
will end in destruction.

Everything God does, He does according to a
pattern and is based upon a principle in His
Kingdom; and that is the pattern that begins
with seduction, leads into deception and winds
up in destruction.
This was the story of Ahithophel. David loved
Ahithophel. Look at Psalm 55:12
“For it was not an enemy that reproached me;
then I could have borne it: neither was it he
that hated me that did magnify himself against
me; then I would have hid myself from him:
But it was thou, a man mine equal, my guide,
and mine acquaintance. We took sweet
counsel together, and walked unto the house
of God in company.”
Psalm 55:12-1
He recounts this again in the 21st verse. He said
“The words of his mouth were smoother than
but war was in his heart: his words were softer
than oil, yet were they drawn swords.”
(Psalm 55:21)
David counted Ahithophel as a friend, but what
he came to realize was that no matter how
war in his heart, you will have a battle.
When the angel announced the coming of
Jesus, he said, “Peace on earth among men of
good will”. He didn't say, “Peace on earth
toward men of good will” He said, “among
men of good will!
You will never have peace on earth, in the
church or in the home... no matter what a man
may say… no matter what a man may act
like... as long as there is war in his heart,
you're going to have war on this earth.
GOD WANTS TO HAVE INTIMACY WITH US
AS HIS “FRIENDS”!
Abraham was called the “friend” of God.
“Was not Abraham our father justified by
works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon
the altar? Seest thou how faith wrought with
his works, and by works was faith made
perfect? And the scripture was fulfilled which
saith, Abraham believed God, and it was

that was given to someone who was making a
decision. That leads me to another principle of
the Kingdom, and that is, counselors determine
the destinies of kings. I”m going to say it one
more time.
Say it with me: “Counselors determine the
destinies of kings.”
How many of you asked somebody for advice
and got the wrong advice to your own hurt? Do
you know what I'm talking about right now?
You made a decision based on somebody's
counsel or on somebody's advice that turned
out to be the wrong decision; because he
advice you were given was bad.
Whenever you ask anybody anything and they
say, “Well, if I were you, don't listen to another
word. Shut it down right there, because they
aren't you.. . they will never be you... they
don't know what you're going through. They
cannot understand you, and therefore they are
not giving you good news… they're giving you
good advice.
The difference between good news and good
advice is that one is secular and temporal, and
the
other is spiritual and eternal.
A TRUE “FRIEND” WILL SACRIFICE
WHATEVER IS NECESSARY FOR HIS
FRIENDS!
It cost Jonathan something to have David as a
friend. He gave David his clothes. He gave him
his
armament. He gave him everything. He said,
“Here, I'll give it to you. He even gave him his
life. Jonathan died and David lived. Jonathan
sacrificed himself for the sake of David.

I've got news for you! There is a Friend Who
has sacrificed Himself for every man, woman,
boy and girl on the face of this earth. He is a
Friend that loveth at all times.
He is a Friend that only wants to do you good.
He is a Friend that only wants to bless you.
He is a Friend that will provide you with every
benefit, because on Calvary He purchased
everything in heaven and on earth.
He is a Friend that sticketh closer than a
brother. His Name is JESUS!
What is it that made a man say, “Let the healing
begin.”
What is it that raised up Brother Cerullo in
answer to the prayers of thousands of people
that Heritage, which had been birthed in the
Spirit, would not be disintegrated by ungodly
and reprobate spirits, but be preserved for the
glory of God?
What is it that moved on a man's heart to
defend the honor of God by taking his faith and
putting
into action... to say, “It belongs to God, and to
be the glory forever and forever”?
I don't know how you feel about it, but I want
you to know he is worthy of double honor in
my book.
I thank God that Brother Cerullo did what he
did and is doing what he is doing. You know
why he has done it? You know why? Because
he is a friend of God. Friends do what is
necessary for the benefit of their friends.
There are times when there are things in life
more important than life itself. The Bible says
life comes out of death. In our lives, wherever
we want life, we must first recognize there has
to be death, because death gives birth to life.
“Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground
and die, it abideth alone: but if it die it
bringeth forth much fruit.”
(John 12:24)
To be friends of God, we must die to the flesh,
to will the will of God, so that the glory and
the honor of Almighty God can cover the
earth!

the steamer, will they help in steadying the
ship?
Let me tell you, should the steamer be loaded
with even larger anchors, it will still not be
steadied unless those anchors are thrown into
the water. The more we look at ourselves, the
more disappointed we become. But if we cast
the anchor of faith onto the cross of the Lord
Jesus we shall have peace.
We should always commence with the
objective, and then conclude with the
subjective. So here are the two sides: we will
never be benefited if we only pay attention to
the indwelling Holy Spirit without first noticing
the finished work of Christ on the cross; yet
neither will we have any experience if we look
exclusively at what Christ has accomplished on
the cross without looking as well at what the
Holy Spirit will do in us.
Another case will be this matter of our co-
crucifixion with Christ.
Do we crucify ourselves? No. “Knowing this,
that our old man was crucified with him, that
the body of sin might be done away, that so
we should no longer be in bondage to sin”
(Romans 6.6). It is not that we crucify ourselves, temper; if I say, I am willing not to lose my

You should keep in mind, instead, that all real
beginnings lie with Christ. You do not die
because you have seen yourself dead. You only
become dead because you died when Christ
died. The anchor is only effective when it is cast
forth. Faith is not operative till it is cast towards
Christ. How can you make yourself die if you
always look at yourself and pretend to die? Let
us ever keep in mind that you and I became
dead with Christ when He died on the cross.
And this is what Christ has done. Objectively,
He has died, and hence you too have died.
“If ye live after the flesh, ye must die; but if by
the Spirit ye put to death the deeds of the
body, ye shall live”
(Romans 8.13).
This is a perfect complement to Romans 6.6.
There it is speaking of cocrucifixion with Christ;
here, however, it speaks of our putting to death
the deeds of the body by the Holy Spirit.
Crucifixion is that which is finished in Christ;
mortification is that which is to be done by the
Holy Spirit. To be crucified with Christ is what I
believe and is objective. I can shout Hallelujah!,
because when Christ died, my old man was
crucified with Him. But on the subjective side,
if I today am willing to obey by responding
affirmatively as the Holy Spirit reminds me that
a certain thing has already been crucified, I am
dead indeed to that particular thing.
Tomorrow the Holy Spirit will mention to me
another thing about myself that was already
crucified, and it will indeed be crucified
experientially if I am willing to let it go. The
Holy Spirit tells me my temper has been
crucified, and therefore I need not lose my
temper, I will be given strength by the Holy

As I am willing to obey in one thing after
another, the Holy Spirit will work out God's

applying that death in me.

During the first two Christian centuries, the
believers greeted one another with either “The
Lord is coming” or “In Christ.” How sweet and
precious to be in Christ. And the Holy Spirit in

Today, Christians stress too much either the
objective or the subjective truth. Too much
emphasis laid on the subjective side will result
in self-suppression, which is as futile as not
casting the anchor into the water. Yet it will be
equally futile if any should be careless in his
spiritual walk because he reckons Christ has
already died.
Christ has indeed died on the cross, but a
person will still perish unless he
believes—unless he casts the anchor of faith
onto Christ. If he is willing to believe in the
death of Christ on the cross, he will be saved.
In like manner, the Holy Spirit tells you that
your temper, your lust, your pride or your
jealousy were crucified, and if you are willing
to accept this fact, you will be given power by
the Holy Spirit to overcome. You on your side
believe in the objective truth, and the Holy
Spirit on His side will translate what is
objective into your subjective experience. You
believe in truth outside you, and the Holy Spirit
will make it operative within you. You believe
in the finished work of Calvary, and the Holy
Spirit will make it real in you.
Fact Two
This is not only the case with the truth of co-
death; it also is the case with the truth of co-
resurrection. “And raised us up with him
[Christ]” (Ephesians 2.6). How are we raised
up? Raised up with Christ. See once again that
it is Christ. Once more it is objective fact that
we see. “Begat us again unto a living hope by
the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead”
(1 Peter 1.3). In other words, when a person is
born again, he is at the same moment raised up
with Christ. Every born-again Christian has
been resurrected with Christ, and vice versa.
Raised with Him, for it is He who has raised us
up.
What is meant by resurrection? The Lord Jesus
had died. His body was there, but all His blood
had drained out. There were numerous wounds
in His head due to His having worn the thorny
crown; there were nail prints in His hands and

feet as well as a spear wound in His side. The
power of death had seized His body. But lo and
behold, the life of God entered this body and
He now lives. This life in the Lord Jesus
overcomes all the powers of death and
resurrects His body. In death His eyes could not
see, His ears could not hear, nor could His
hands and feet move. But now He can.
Death in the Bible means being absolutely
powerless and weak. Death is a spiritual
inability and a spiritual impossibility.
Previously, Jesus' body had been bound around
with layers of linen; what happened, though, at
His resurrection? The resurrection of our Lord
Jesus was different from that of Lazarus. In
Lazarus' case, when he came out of the tomb,
his hands and feet were bound with gravecloths
and his face was bound about with a napkin. He
needed people to loosen him. But in the
resurrection of our Lord, the Bible records: “the
linen cloths lying, and the napkin, that was
upon his head, not lying with the linen cloths,
but rolled up in a place by itself” (John 20:6b,
7). He did not need to have the linen cloths and
napkin gradually unloosed or cut.
As the powerful life of God flowed into Him,
both the legitimate and the illegitimate
bondages lost their power. Once His body was
a corpse; but now it is alive and active. Such is
the resurrection of our Lord Jesus.
I recall when I first began to serve the Lord that I
prayed He would raise me up with Him. I
thought at the time that if the Lord should raise
me up with Him I would then have the power
to do God's will. It was wrong for me to pray
like this, for once again I had started from
myself. The Bible says that I have been raised
with Christ. This is an accomplished fact.
Remember that the more we turn in to look at
ourselves, the worse we become. Please
understand, here, that it is not that we should
not have subjective experience, it is simply that
we must first believe in objective truth. Now I
can say, “Lord, I thank You for You have
already risen, and I have been raised with
You.” We need first to believe the fact that I am
raised from the dead. Yet how am I raised? Is it
because I feel I am resurrected? No, it is Christ
who has raised me up.
We may ask the same about our salvation.
When we were yet sinners, did we not hear the

gospel wherein was proclaimed that the Lord
Jesus had already died for us and that His blood
had already been shed for the remission of our
sins? We believe, and so we are saved. We do
not look at our side to see if we are good
enough, we instead look at the other side
wherein the Lord has accomplished redemption
on the cross. By laying hold of this fact, we
receive peace. Were we to look only on the
subjective side of the truth without equally
applying the objective side, we would not be
able “to fly” because we have but “one wing.”
We must look at one half and not overlook the
other half.
Ephesians 2:6 declares that God has “raised us
up with him”; whereas Ephesians 1:19,20
declares: “what is the exceeding greatness of
his power to us-ward who believe, according
to that working of the strength of his might
which he wrought in Christ, when he raised
him from the dead...” Though the believers in
Ephesus already knew they were raised up with
Christ from among the dead, they were
nonetheless urged by the apostle Paul to know
the exceeding greatness of the manifested
power of God.
In other words, though we know resurrection,
we need also the power of resurrection. On the
objective side, there is already resurrection; but
on the subjective side, there is still the need of
knowing the power of resurrection. No one
should say because his temper has been
crucified he therefore has lost his temper. On
the objective side, his temper was indeed
crucified, but on the subjective side he must
put to death his temper by the power of the
Holy Spirit. Having the objective truth, there
must also be the subjective experience.
An unfortunate situation exists today, which is,
that people either do not believe in objective
truth yet attempt to get subjective experience,
or else believe in objective truth but totally
ignore subjective experience. According to the
word of God, however, without faith people
can never be saved, and without obedience
they will not be delivered. Faith is towards the
finished work of Christ, while obedience is
towards the current work of the Holy Spirit.
Faith towards Christ and obedience towards the
Holy Spirit. How essential are these two
elements of faith and obedience. “That I may
know him, and the power of his resurrection”

(Philippians 3:10). Paul declared that the one
reason for his counting all things as loss was to
know the power of resurrection. He did not say
to know resurrection because resurrection was
known at the moment he believed in the Lord.
Rather, on the subjective side, he knew he must
forsake all things before he could know the
power of the resurrection of Christ.
Fact Three
Ascension is the last accomplished objective
truth concerning Christ mentioned in the New
Testament. The birth, the suffering, the
resurrection and the ascension of our Lord are
together the greatest of all truths. Concerning
this final matter of ascension, I spent many
hours when first believing in the Lord trying to
figure out how blessed it would be if I could sit
in the heavenly places daily and have sins
under my feet. But as with flying an airplane, I
could not endure for very long up above. I soon
fell down. I prayed and prayed, hoping that one
day I could sit securely in the heavenly places
and break my old record of ascension.
One day as I read Ephesians 2.6 (which says,
“and raised us up with him, and made us to sit
with him in the heavenly places in Christ
Jesus”), I began to understand. At the time a
Christian is raised together with Christ, he is
also made to sit with Christ in the heavenly
places. He sits there with Christ not because of
his diligence or because of his prayer, but
because he was taken to the heavenly places at
the time Christ himself ascended to heaven.
Christ is in the heavenly places, and therefore I
too am in the heavenly places.
Yet I need to allow the power of His ascension
to be manifested through me, for on the other
hand, in the Bible we also see this: “If then ye
were raised together with Christ, seek the things
that are above, where Christ is, seated on the
right hand of God. Set your mind on the things
that are above, not on the things that are upon
the earth. For ye died, and your life is hid with
Christ in God” (Colossians 3:1- 3). This is the
subjective side of the matter. “Your life is hid
with Christ in God”—such is ascension. Since
you have died, been raised and ascended, you
ought to seek the things above. You ought to
think of these things daily. Suppose a sinner, for
example, heard that the Lord Jesus has died for
his sins. He should not think that since the Lord

has died for his sins, he could go on sinning. In
spite of the fact that we have the ascended
position, we will not be profited by it if we set
our mind on the things here below. Only when
on the one hand we believe that when Christ
ascended we too ascended and on the other
hand set our mind on the things above will we
truly be in the heavenly places both objectively
and subjectively.
Fruit-Bearing
Our having objective fact but not having the
corresponding subjective experience
approaches the realm of idealism without
eliciting any favor from heaven. On the
objective side, Christ has done it all; so He
must be trusted wholeheartedly. On the
subjective side, the Holy Spirit will do the
work; and therefore He must be obeyed
absolutely. All spiritual experiences commence
with our believing what Christ has
accomplished, and they conclude with our
obeying what the Holy Spirit commands us to
do. What Christ has accomplished gives us the
position; what the Holy Spirit commands
causes us to have experience. What Christ has
accomplished is fact that must be received;
what the Holy Spirit leads us into is principle
which requires our obedience.
All spiritual experiences begin from the
objective; there is no exception to the rule. The speaking, you have only the women. Some
anchor of faith must be cast upon the death, the others, however, are only interested in
resurrection, and the ascension of Christ.
“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch
cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abides in the suffer loss.

important. First, “in me”—the “me” being
Christ. First, abide in Christ. This is objective.
Next, “I in him”—that is, Christ abides in you
and me. This is subjective. With the objective
comes the subjective. And finally, the promise
of bearing much fruit. As we believe in the
objective fact, we find it is being incorporated
into us. And ultimately, the objective plus the
subjective shall result in fruit bearing. Having
the objective alone will not produce fruit, yet
neither will only having the subjective ever
bear fruit. The combination of both these

realms brings in fruit.
In the upper room in Jerusalem in the early days
after Christ's ascension there were men and
women gathered together for prayer. In
typology, we can say that man here represents
objective truth, while woman represents
subjective truth. The presence of men signifies
the presence of objective truth, that is to say,
the presence of truth is there. The presence of
women signifies the presence of subjective
truth, which means that the presence of
experience is there. And the result of both was
that three thousand and later five thousand
souls were added to the church (Acts 2.41; 4.4).
That is how the church began.
At the time of the second coming of the Lord,
there will be on the one hand the Lamb of
God—the objective element; and on the other
hand, there will be the Bride of the Lamb—the
subjective element, who through God's grace
shall be clothed, bright and pure, with fine
linen—the fine linen being the righteous acts of
the saints (Revelation 19.8).
Whether or not a Christian lives to please the
Lord depends on whether or not he is balanced
in these two sides of the objective and the
subjective. Today in the church some specialize
on teaching subjective truth, such as the
Holiness people; in that case, typologically
advocating objective truth, such as the Brethren;
and in that case, you have only the men. Both
Stressing only the subjective will not produce
the right experience; it instead will bring in
much unnecessary hardship. On the other
hand, emphasizing the objective alone will not
produce the corresponding experience either,
but will result in self-deception.
Hence the unbalanced attention paid to either is
not God's way.
According to the principle of the Bible, the
order is first the objective, then the subjective.
First the fact of Christ, then the leading of the
Holy Spirit. And the result is bearing much fruit.
May God enable us to know how to obey and
serve Him more in His way.

T he highest form of government is self-
government. Leaders have a deep
dedication to personal discipline. They
adhere to self-imposed limits so they may be
certain to achieve their visions. They do not
want to lose out by pursuing personal
indulgence rather than the fulfillment of their
purposes. Are you self-disciplined? Do you
impose high standards and strict parameters on
yourself for the sake of fulfilling your purpose
and vision? The following are some key
characteristics of personal discipline.
Characteristics of Personal Discipline
Delayed Gratification
Self-discipline means patiently waiting for the
right and best results in life. Too many people
want to rush the process—whether it is in regard
to forming relationships, obtaining possessions,
or achieving success—and they pursue an
immediate “reward.” A leader settles only for
what is best in regard to his relationship with
the Creator and his purpose and vision. He has
learned when to reject immediate gratification
for the sake of gaining greater benefits in the
future.
Self-Sacrifice
Leaders are willing to make sacrifices for the
sake of service. They think more about those
whom they are serving through their visions
than about their own comfort. Entertainment
and relaxation are not their principal goals in

life. While they are aware that their bodies and
minds need times of renewal and refreshing,
they make the best use of their time that they
can.
In addition, when leaders make decisions, they
are aware of the consequences of those
decisions in relation to their goals. There are
only so many hours in a day. When we choose
to be involved in one activity, we are making
the choice not to be involved in another
activity. When we decide to put our resources
in one place, we are making a decision not to
put our resources in another place. Leaders
understand the principle of priorities in relation
to their visions. We will talk more about choices
in chapter twelve, “Manage Your Priorities.”
The Pursuit of Excellence
A leader disciplines himself in the pursuit of
excellence; he shuns mediocrity. He strives to
develop his skills and talents and to gain
relevant knowledge and wisdom in order to
accomplish his vision. While others allow
laziness or apathy to set in, leaders discipline
themselves to keep moving toward their goals
by tapping into their original passions and
accepting responsibility for completing tedious
or difficult tasks. Leaders mold themselves to
obtain what is best for their
lives and will not settle for less.
Not Compromising for the Sake of Popularity
It can sometimes take a great amount of
personal integrity and discipline to withstand

the temptation to compromise your vision for
the sake of temporary popularity and others'
approval. If you are easily influenced by other
people, regardless of your personal convictions,
this is a characteristic you particularly need to
focus on eliminating. True leaders cannot
compromise their visions so that others will like Let's look at a negative example of this truth

that a leader shouldn't learn to listen to those

purpose and because your passion for your

and you can be easily swayed by other people
who don't have your best interests in mind.

wilderness while he went up onto the mountain
to talk with God. He was there for so long that
the people became frustrated. They said,
“Moses must have died.” Moses' brother Aaron
was in charge while Moses was away, and he
allowed himself to be pressured by the people
into making a golden calf as an idol for them to
worship. He did not hold his ground or even
tell them how disrespectful and foolish this act
would be after God had powerfully delivered
returned, he asked Aaron, “What did these
people do to you, that you led them into such
great sin?” (Exodus 32:21)
Notice how Moses asked the question: “What
did these people do to you?” Aaron replied,
“Do not be angry, my lord ...You know how
prone these people are to evil” (v. 22). He was
blaming the sin on the people, even though he
had been in charge. Aaron continued, “They
said to me, 'Make us gods who will go before
us” (v. 23).
Aaron's response was an indication of weak
leadership. The words “They said” imply that
his decisions were influenced, controlled, and
subjected to the opinions and wishes of the
people. He was no longer leading the people
but was being swayed by them. It was
leadership by the will of the majority.
My personal conviction is that democracy is the
best system fallen man has developed to
safeguard himself against unbridled abuse by
his fellow man. It is man's best attempt to
provide a system to govern sinful men.
However, democracy—especially an absolute
democracy—is not the best model to follow in
pursuing your vision because it may cause you
to be swayed by the crowd and compromise
your principles.

First, in a democracy, authority flows from the
bottom up rather than from the top down, as it
does in the kingdom of God. Second, the very
premise of an absolute democracy lends itself to
the appeasement of the masses as opposed to a
commitment to what is true and right. At times,
democracy in action may necessarily violate
sound principles in order to maintain its
existence. A nation that has a democratic form
of government can be effective only if its
constitution is based on and committed to
correct principles. Moreover, its leaders must be
committed to these principles. If leaders don't
live up to their own standards, often, the people
will not be committed to them, either.
God's kingdom is a theocracy. In other words,
what He says goes, even if you don't agree.
That's the way He operates. When God calls
you to be a leader, He gives you His Word, and
His Word stands, no matter who disagrees with
Him. I appreciate all the ideas and philosophies
about leadership that we have in our nations. In
the church strata, especially, there are many
different types of church governments; but
when it comes to our relationships with God,
there is no democracy.
How does this concept apply to leadership of
an organization or company? Let me stress that
it must not be construed to mean that the need
for cooperation and participatory management
should be ignored. Again, there must be an
environment of cooperation and teamwork for
there
to be corporate success. However, this must be
done within the context of a singular vision
based on God's purposes. It is important to
understand that you can't lead people when
they're leading you. If God said something in
His Word, you do it, no matter who disagrees
with you.
In the situation with Aaron, instead of leading,
he was being pushed. And as he continued his
explanation to Moses, it got even worse:
They said to me, “...As for this fellow Moses
who brought us up out of Egypt, we don't
know what has happened to him.” So I told
them, “Whoever has any gold jewelry, take it
off.” Then they gave me the gold, and I threw it
into the fire, and out came this calf! (Exodus

32:23–24)
Wait a minute—the golden calf just came
together by itself, walked out of the fire, and
said, “Worship me”? That's ridiculous. Aaron
probably designed the idol and instructed the
people on how to build it.
If you are the kind of leader who just lets things
happen to you, you won't be in a leadership
position for very long. You can be a victim of
your circumstances or you can stand by your
beliefs and principles—even if it means walking
alone—having the faith and discipline to
withstand the pressure to compromise.
Making the Right Decisions
Our world needs leaders who are disciplined
people. If you need help establishing discipline
in your life, ask for it, but don't stop there. Take
the advice given to you and change your
actions. Discipline means imposing strict
guidelines on yourself. Ultimately, don't let
someone else set guidelines for you; set them
yourself in accordance with God's Word and
the requirements of your vision.
Your life is dependent on the two words yes
and no. “Let your yes be yes and your no be
no. Anything more than this is evil.” (See
Matthew 5:37.) When you are facing a moral
decision or a tight spot with temptation, the
easiest thing to do is to say, “Well, maybe it'll
go away.” That won't work. It's either yes or
no. When you are facing a clear choice
between two alternatives in the pursuit your
vision, you may want to procrastinate the
inevitable decision, or you may try to take on
too much by choosing to do both. Neither of
these will work. It's either one alternative or the
other. When you want to seek the easy way out
rather than sacrificing for your purpose, you
may tell yourself that it doesn't matter. That
won't work. It's either compromise or
faithfulness. Discipline means making the right
decision under pressure.
The highest form of discipline is self-discipline.
In fact, only the self-disciplined have earned the
right to discipline others. Those who have
excelled in this quality will rise above the
surface of life and command the respect of
others.

God is not surprised by your ordeal. In fact, it is
happening because He wants to produce
something in your heart - to reveal His glory in
you.
Yet you may feel it is absolutely the worst storm
in your life! Your trial may be a financial
struggle, business troubles, slander, family
problems or a personal tragedy. You go to bed
at night with a restlessness inside, a cloud
hanging over you. When you awaken, the dull
ache is still with you. And it keeps hanging on
until one day you wake up crying, "God, how
much more do I have to endure? How long will
You allow me to go through this? When will it
all end?”
When did the storm stop for the sailors in Psalm
107? When did God bring them into their
desired safe haven? According to the psalmist,
two things happened:
First, the sailors came to their wits' end, giving
up on all human hope or help. They said,
"There's no way we can save ourselves.
Nobody on earth can get us out of this!”
Second, they cried to the Lord in the midst of
their trouble - turning to Him alone for help!
"Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble,

books and tapes; when you keep looking for
that one secret, that one plan, to deliver you
from your trouble.
Beloved, you're only prolonging your trial! It
sounds simple, but from the very beginning,
God has been wanting our childlike trust and
confidence. And you're only keeping the storm
raging and the waves piling up when you refuse
to cry out, "Lord, I'm in a mess - and the only
way out is You!”
God Keeps Bringing Us to Wit's End Until We
Learn To Trust Him Completely - No Matter
How Hopeless Things Appear!
We see this happen time after time with the
children of Israel in the wilderness. Again and
again God brought them to wit's end - to test
them, to see if they would trust Him. But each
time they refused!
First the Lord brought them to a place called Pi-
hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea. He had
shut them in - the sea in front, the mountains on
both sides, and Pharaoh behind. God had
actually led them to a place of human
hopelessness - to wit's end! Had the Israelites

 What to Do When You Start to Worry?

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways.”
Psalm 37:7 (NIV)

Y ou may not hear the word “fret” much anymore. It’s an older word that just means
“worry.” When you fret, you get stressed out, anxious, and impatient. You worry
because things are either happening too fast and you can’t handle the change or because
things are going too slow and you want God to speed things up.
We don’t usually mind waiting if we can gripe about it. But when you choose to wait
patiently on God instead of fretting, it is a statement of faith. You’re making a declaration
about God’s character. When you wait patiently, you’re saying that you trust God and have
faith in him. You’re humbly admitting your dependence on him.
The Bible says in Psalm 37:7, “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret
when people succeed in their ways” (NIV).
One of the biggest reasons we get stressed out is because we’re constantly comparing
ourselves to others. Instead of focusing on God’s love and what he’s done for us, we look
at other people, focusing on what they have that we don’t.
Comparing yourself to others is never wise. Why? Because you’re one of a kind! God has a
plan for your life that’s different from his plan for anyone else. If you’re wishing that God
gave you another person’s plan, then you’re going to miss the plan for your life! Comparing
leads to fretting. When you compare, you start worrying.
But worry is worthless. Any second you spend worrying is wasted, because worry can’t
accomplish anything. Worry can’t change the past. It can’t control the future. It’s only
going to make you miserable today. It’s like sitting in a rocking chair, going back and forth,
back and forth. You don’t make any progress, and you use a lot of energy.
Philippians 4:6 says, “Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises
shape your worries into prayers” (MSG).
Worry will never change anything, but prayer will. So don’t fret. Just pray!
