FAMOUS CIRCUITS
‘One of the wor
‘fastest and most dangerous
road circuits. It sweeps for 876 miles through the wooded slopes of the Ardennes forest, a few
of Liege in Belgium. The famous Masta straight with its agonising kink inthe
allows speeds of up to 200 mp.h. yet at th
miles to the
si
ther side of the circuit, at La Source halepia,
speeds drop down to x mere 35 m.psh. Although the
impeccably smooth road is used by normal
traffic most of the time, the circuit has splendid
permanent grandstands and pits fanking the
“downhill seare/fnish straight immediately after
La Source hairpin. The circuit is approached on
the N32, N28 and N23 roads.

Zandvoort is situated on the Dutch Coast near Haarlem, it has alap distance of 2.6 miles. The only feature
‘of any great difficulty is the Double Bend of the Hunze Rug, where the road
runs round the back of the Pits. Before the war, Holland had no motor racing:
but when the war was over and the time came to
its,
clear the ruin
of Zandvoort, it was decided to use the
as a basis for a racing circuit which would attract
the litle seaside town,

Toe,
New Track Sections are always being added to the
Range—keep in touch with your Scalextrix Dealer
es for details of the latest additions.101 CIRCUITS
WE have shown plans of as wide a range as possible of 2. 4 and 6 lane racing
circuits, however, you will appreciate that with a track system as widely adapt-
able as Scalextric there is practically no limit to the shape and size of layouts
which may be constructed. You ean even construct 8 lane layouts by using one
ofthe later additions to the range, the Large Radius Curve “M” (Cat. No. PT/24).
Most of the circuits illustrated may be reduced in size by simply removing an
equal number of straight track sections from both sides of the layout on parallel
straights, similarly any layout may be enlarged by adding an equal number of
Straights into any two parallel erack joints. By using this method you will perhaps
be able to adapt a circuit which interests you to suit the space which you have
at your disposal.
In the main, standard track sections are illustrated in the layout diagrams, but
should you wish to incorporate such items as a Straight or Curved Chicane,
the Pit Stops or perhaps a Lap Counter in your circuit this can quite easily be
done on the majority of layouts by substituting the chosen items in place of an
‘equal length of the standard track sections.
‘On 2 lane circuits 180° standard curve bends may be replaced with the Speed
Banking Set (Cat. No. PT/97), this set consists of four Banked Standard Curves,
four Variable Supports and two Approach pieces which are each equal in length
to a Straight ‘B’ and so have the effect of slightly lengthening the layout.
‘The banked Curve and sets of two Approach pieces are also available separately
to enable Speed Banking on any size standard curve corner, but remember that
te rac length is lengthened by the Approach plecesand that straight Bs will
hhave to be added on the opposite parallel side of the layout.
Many of the circuits incorporate fly-overs, and on most 2 lane circuits the
Fly-over Bridge Supports (Cat. No. PT/70) make an excellent fly-over bridge,
they may also be used for fly-overs on 4 lane circuits where the upper track
crosses the lower at right angles. Fly-overs of longer length or on a bend may
be constructed by using banking units and banking trusses (Cat. Nos. A/2I7 and
AJ2I8) these may be joined together as illustrated in the Scalextric catalogue
‘and will support tracks of any shape, thus it is quite a simple matter to make
large fly-overs for 4, 6 and 8 lane circuits.
The, corners of your circuits should be well banked end on 2 lane circuits the
Banking Plates (Cat. No. A/264) is quite suicable for this purpose, but on 4, 6
and’ lane circus eis recommended that che banking Unies and Truses be used.
