The Savior’s Birth- A Nativity Skit

NARRATOR 1: (HAPPY) Christmas fills our heart with joy as we think of gifts, lights and
holiday spirit, but remember, Christmas means something more, it’s the birth of our
Savior Jesus Christ. Let us travel back to Bethlehem and share the story of His birth.

Scene 1: An Angel Visits Mary

(Mary enters from the side and stands near the BASKET OF CLOTHES. Mary begin
folding the clothes).

NARRATOR 2 : (AUGUST) God sent the angel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee.

ANGEL begins sneakily tip-toeing from the side, making their way to stand behind MARY,
who doesn’t notice.
ANGEL 1: (RENEE )(Jumps out from behind MARY): Mary!
(Mary throws a piece of clothing she was folding in the air then steps away and hides
behind the RECTANGULAR BOX.)

The Lord has given you special favor. He is with you.

(MARY stand up and scratches her head).
MARY: (VICKY 1) What kind of greeting this could be?
ANGEL 1: (RENEE) (holds out a hand out) Do not be afraid Mary. God is very pleased with
you. You will become pregnant (The ANGEL pats Mary’s belly a few times). And give birth
to a son. You must name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the
Highest God.
MARY: (VICKY 1) (Mary shrugs). “How can this happen?”
NARRATOR 1: (HAPPY )Then the angel left her.
(ANGEL 1 exit to the side of the stage.)
(MARY puts the clothes in the basket and exit to the side of the stage).
Scene 2: An Angel Visits Joseph in a Dream
NARRATOR 2: (AUGUST) This how the birth of Jesus Christ came about. Joseph was a
Godly man. He did not want to put Mary to shame in public. While Joseph was thinking
about this….
(JOSEPH/ JULIAN sits down on the RECTANGULAR BOX and poses like the thinker. He
slowly leans his heads and lays down on the RECTANGULAR BOX to sleep) ….an angel of
the Lord appeared to him in a dream.
ANGEL 2: (LEMON) (holding out one hand to Joseph) Joseph, son of David….
Joseph sits up, startled. He hides behind the RECTANGULAR BOX.
ANGEL 2: (LEMON) Don’t be afraid to take Mary home as your wife. The baby inside
her…is from the Holy Spirit. She is going to have a son. You must give him the name
Jesus. ( Angel 2 exits to the side of the stage)
NARRATOR 1:( HAPPY) Now, Joseph did what the Angel of the Lord commanded to do.
He took Mary home as his wife. (Joseph exit to the side of the stage).

SCENE 3: MARY and JOSEPH travel to Bethlehem

NARRATOR 2:(AUGUST) And it came to pass in those days that the entire world should
be taxed and Joseph went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, which is called
Bethlehem, to be taxed with Mary his spouse wife, being great with child.
(Joseph and Mary travel to Bethlehem with their donkey, arriving at the first inn).
BACKGROUND MUSIC “O Little Town of Bethlehem”
JOSEPH: (JULIAN) Do you have any room in the inn?
Inkeeper # 1: (EARTH) No I’m sorry we are full. Try across the way.
(Joseph leads Mary to the next inn and knocks)
JOSEPH: (JULIAN) Do you have any room for us in your inn? We have come a long way
and my wife is with child
Inkeeper #2: (PRAMAI) All of our rooms are full. I have an empty stable out back you
may use. It’s not much but it will give you some shelter.
MARY: Joseph the baby will be coming soon, please let’s go to the stable.
(Inkeeper # 2 shows Joseph and Mary the way)
NARRATOR 1: (HAPPY) And so it was, that the days were accomplished that she should
be delivered. And she brought for her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling
clothes and laid him into the manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
(Mary reveals baby Jesus, wrapped Him and lays Him in the manger).
(The Angels will present their interpretative dance “OH HOLY NIGHT”.

SCENE 4: The Angels Visit Shepherds

NARRATOR 2: ( AUGUST) There were shepherds living out in the fields nearby. They
were looking after the sheep
(A group of SHEPHERDS enter from the side of the stage and children dressed as a
SHEEP enter from the side of the stage wearing SHEEP HATS and sit down scattered
near the center.)
It was night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them
(Angel 3 appeared with his hands up and stands near the Shepherds).
NARRATOR 1: (HAPPY) And the glory of the Lord shown around them and they were
terrified
(The SHEPHERDS kneel down and cover in fear.) But the Angel said to them…..
ANGEL 3: (ANGIE) (Holding out a hand).
Do not be afraid .I bring you good news of great joy. Today in the town of David a
Savior has been born to you. He is Christ the Lord. You will find a baby wrapped in
strips of cloth…And lying in a manger.
NARRATOR 2: (AUGUST) Suddenly a large group of angels from heaven also
appeared.
(Angel 1 and Angel 2 run on a stage and stand next to angel 1).
Angels 1,2 And 3 (Raising their hands to the sky).
“Glory to God and may peace in Heaven to those he is pleased.”
NARRATOR 1: Then the shepherds said to one another….
SHEPHERDS: : Let’s go to Bethlehem. “Let’s see this thing that has happened
which the Lord has told us about”. (The SHEPHERDS enter from the side of the
stage and kneel around the manger).
NARRATOR 2: (AUGUST) After the shepherds had seen Him, they told everyone
and reported what the angel had said about this child.
The SHEPHERDS ran in front of the stage gesturing and saying “JESUS is Born!”
(After 15 seconds of this, then exits).

SCENE 5:
NARRATOR 1: ( HAPPY) Everyone who heard it was amazed at what the shepherds told
to them, and the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that
they had heard and seen. And, Behold, there came wise men from the east of Jerusalem.
(Wisemen enter the scene bringing their gifts).
Wise Men: (JUMBO, BAZ and PEACH) Where is that born King of the Jews? For we have
seen his star in the east and are come to worship him.
NARRATOR 2: (AUGUST) When they saw the star, they rejoice with exceeding great joy.
(The wisemen travel following the star and arrive at the stable as the song ends.
Background:” We Three kings”
NARRATOR 1: (HAPPY) And then they were come into the house, they saw the young
child with Mary his mother and kneel down, and worshiped Him. And when they had
opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh
(Each wise men presents his gift to baby Jesus)

NARRATOR 2: (AUGUST)
As we see the twinkling Christmas lights, let us remember the star that led the wise men
to seek the Savior. When we give and received gifts, stop to ponder what gifts you can
give to Christ child, for “The Spirit of Christmas is the spirit of love and of generosity
and of goodness.
NARRATOR 1: (HAPPY)
The Spirit of Christmas is something I hoped all of us would have within our hearts and
within our lives, not only at this particular season but also throughout the years
(All cast members enter the scene and take a bow and then say together in unison,
-“MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL”
