The Awami League won a large majority in the National assembly by taking 160 seats out of 300 and it could form the governement in the centre but it had not gota single seat from west Pakistan whereas Bhutto's PPP got an overwhelming majority seats , hence it was quite difficult to undermine the traditional dominance and majority status of PPP in West Pakistan ifthe entire leadership would come from East Pakistan. Awami League had won the elections on the basis of Six Points programme which were based on Itcaused a severe constitutional crisis when the negotiations between Yahya,Mujeeb and Bhutto entire provincial autonomy failed .Although Yahya curtailing the powers of the central government. khan hoped to reacha compromise on power sharing buT there was no settlement and ultimately resulted in the postponement of the session of the National assembly which resulted chaos and constituional crisis in the country.
