E. Discussing new concept and practicing new
skills,
As we proceed to our discussion, let me first
read the objectives of this lesson.
Objectives:
“Arthe end of the lesson the students must be
able to:
4. Define the common types of figure of
speech,
b. Identify the common types of figure of
speech in a sentence
¢. Use the different common types of figure
of speech to compose a song, poem, or a short
story.
Our topic for this morning is about the
Common Types of Figure of Speech.
Do you have any idea about figures of
Speech? Yes, Ms. Donita!
"Yes, good idea! Figures of Speech is more
elaborate than the literal language. It is use
to enhance the quality of language, written or
spoken.
So generally, the figures of speech are use in a
language to specialized meaning and not based
‘on the literal meening of the words.
Common Types of Figure of Speech
‘The first type of figure of speech is Simmile.
Will you please read the definition of Simile,
Michelle,
‘Thank you Michelle!
‘Therefore, simile is a figures of speech that
shows a direct comparison using words like
and.as.”
So please take note for the wards like and as.

there is the word as.
Do you have any question for simile?

examples of sentences that shows a
‘comparison using the word as or like,
Yes, Jessa!
‘Thank you, Jessa!
‘What is being compared in your sentence?
‘That's right! Thank you Jessa!
Another example grade 72 Yes, Zane!
‘What is the comparison in your sentence?
Very good! There is a comparison in the
sentence and there is a use of the word as.
Moving on, to our next common type of
figure of speech, which is the metaphor,
Kindly please read the definition of metaphor,
Donita.
‘Thank you Donita.
f simile uses the word like or as in comparing
different ideas, in metaphor itis also a
comparison between two unlike objects
‘without using the word like or as,
Ex:
1. You are the sunshine of my life.
2, She has a heart of stone,
So, it has a direct comparison that disregard

‘class, the two contradicting
‘words are amazingly and awful. The two
wortls contradicts to each other, it’s amazing
and at the same time awfu!? So, therefore it is
an example of oxymoron. We cannot really
understand what was the exact idea in the
‘sentence because there is a contradiction
between the use of words.
* The teacher will call students to give more
example for Oxymoron?
Great job! And what is the contradiction in
your sentence?Very good!
Student's possible Answer*
Another example grade 7! Yes, Mary Anne | 1.His girlfriend is pretty ugly.
‘What words that contradicts to each other? —_| (Pretty and ugly ma’am)
Wow, almost all of you know about
‘oxymoron. Let us all remember, oxymoron,
contradicts to the word itself
2.1 was clearly confused of my decision.
For the last common type of figure of speech,
wwe have Irony. “Clearly and confused Ma’am*
Can you please read the definition of Irony.
Yes please, Rhea!
Thank you Rhea,
6, Irony is different from what is truly meant
and it is meant to show sarcasm.
Let us analyze this example class.
Irony is @ figure of speech in which there is a
contradiction of expectation between what is
said and what is really meant.
Example
1. A carpenter does not have his own house
* Teacher will call a student to analyze the
sentence.”
Exactly class, because it shows an ironic
situation, It contradicts to the expectation of
one’s job, It is sarcastic,
2. The police station gets robbed.
* The teacher will ask student to analyze the
given sentence.*Republic of the Philippines
BULACAN AGRICULTURAL STATE COLLEGE
Institute of Education
Pinaad, San idefonso, Bulacan, Philippines 3010
Therefore class, the sentence is irony. It is an
ironic situation because it contradicts to the
expectation of a police officers job,
| want you to give more examples of sentences
in the form of Lrony. Think of a particular job
or career, for example teacher or vendor and
then try to imagine a certain thing that is not
expected from his job. Alright? Who wants to
give an example of an irony.
You are raising your hand, Zane.
Very good, itis ironic that a cobbler’s child
has no shoe, well in fact we know that his
father was making shoes but then he has no
shoes.
Another example? What about Donita.
How do you say so, that your example is an
irony?
‘That's great Donita,
‘We are done with the Common Types of
Figure of Speech, What are those again?
Any questions so far grade 7
Maam, itis impossible that a carpenter dacs
not have his own house, that is why itis
considered as irony.
Possible Answer™
Police officer’s job is to catch the robbery man
but how come that the police station gets
robbed?
“Possible Answers*
L.The cobbler’s child has no shoe.
2.A marriage counselor files for divorce,
‘The example given was an irony because we
all know that the job of a marriage counselor
is to fix the problems of the married couple
but then, he filed for divorce. That is an ironic
situation,
Simile, Metaphor, Personification, Hyperbole ,
Oxymoron and Irony.
"None, Ma'am.”
F. Finding practical application of concepts.
Analyze the lines of the following songs that | am going to play and identify the
figure of speech and it's type. Kindly get your paper and marker.
