INTRODUCTION

Currently, businesses that want to create breakthroughs and develop sustainably need to
have a culture of innovation. In a fast-changing, flexible, and highly competitive business
environment, innovation is seen as an important strategy to gain competitive advantage.
Innovation is the source of knowledge generation to improve internal business processes
and structures to create market-oriented products and services that affects new business
results. While innovation is currently a top priority, determining the right direction,
developing and implementing the most valuable ideas that bring the highest return on
investment are not easy at all.

Currently, Vietnam is at a crossroads of socioeconomic development. This requires

Vietnam to set more important priorities in the process of national construction and
construction. More importantly, for Vietnam to improve its international competitiveness
in the new context, the development of high technology in organizations and businesses
across the country is essential. In Vietnam today, parking lots are being widely developed
in agencies and organizations with quite large parking volumes such as schools, offices,
apartments, etc. However, the system of parking lots is not optimized. There are still some
limitations such as traffic jams in the parking lot, messy parking lot, time-consuming when
checkin or checkout, a high number of staff and cash payment method. Realizing that
situation, our group decided to innovate the parking system. After researching and
analyzing the types of parking systems that are available in the Vietnamese market today,
the team has applied various types of innovations to create a model of "Automatic parking
system" which is optimal and effective.

CHAPTER 1: CUSTOMER DEMAND

1. Target customer

The group identifies the target customers as Businesses - who are interested in improving
the parking lot. Customer segments are businesses/organizations that own parking lots with
the following characteristics:

- Fixed users: Our customers usually have their own fixed users, for example, students and
teachers in university or office workers in business so it becomes easier for both customers
and their end users when using a system that lets users register only one time and park
automatically from now on.

- Congestion: During peak hours, congestion makes it difficult for users to drive. Waiting
in line with vehicle emissions will lead to environmental pollution and drivers’ fatigue.

- Messy parking lot: messy parking takes up a lot of space and the user's vehicle is moved
to another location, making it difficult to find the vehicle.

- Cash payment: Currently, most of the parking lots in Vietnam have cash payment method.

- Traditional parking systems: The traditional parking system requires drivers to pay in
cash. and if the users forget to bring cash, it becomes inconvenient for them to pay the
parking fee.

- Time-consuming when check-in/checkout: Currently, it takes 2-3 minutes to check in or

check out when parking, pay the parking fee, check the card, check the owner of the
vehicle. In addition, there are cases where the end-user loses his/her vehicle card, leading
to a waste of money and time in completing procedures to confirm the vehicle's owner.

Job-to-be-done by our customers (businesses/organization)

- Minimize human resources: Businesses which are in the process of renovating their
organizational model are gradually bringing in technology to reduce personnel. Similar to
parking lots in many places today, there is a need for businesses to reduce labor to save
their costs.

- Apply advanced technology effectively: Currently, technology is considered an important

key to helping people, businesses and the economy adapt and break through.

- Ensure safety management: The application of an automatic parking system using

advanced technology will help manage the parking system more efficiently and safer than
ever.

- Ensure effective management: When using an automatic parking system, the management
will be more effective through technological devices instead of using human resources.

Pain

Downloaded by Cosy 209 (tranthingocthuolv1234@gmail.com)

lOMoARcPSD|31591801

- Feel annoyed while waiting in line: At peak hours, waiting in line to wait for parking is
always a painful problem nowadays.

- Congestion: during peak hours, congestion makes it difficult for users to move and vehicle
emission also leads to environmental pollution.

- Messy parking lot: A lot of motorbikes park in the wrong place which leads to a messy
parking lot.

- Traditional payment method: most parking lots nowadays use staff to manage the system
and use magnetic or paper cards with cash payment methods.

- Time-consuming: it takes drivers a lot of time to check in or check out, especially in

public places like shopping malls or universities.

Gain

- Ensure safety: Users can actively protect their vehicles’ safety with the lock feature on
the app or website.

- Increase brand awareness: The brand will be known as a business with advanced
technology for parking systems.

- Know how many available spaces are left with an LED screen: This helps the driver to
determine if the parking lot is available or not.

- Optimize human resources: most of the traditional parking lots nowadays use staff to
operate, but when using our automatic parking system, all the parking processes are
automatic, which reduces human resource costs as well.

- Convenient payment method: When picking up the vehicle, drivers don't need to stop to
return the card and pay. All payment processes will happen automatically.

3. Conclusion

3.1. Customer needs

Downloaded by Cosy 209 (tranthingocthuolv1234@gmail.com)

lOMoARcPSD|31591801

Through the process of understanding customer insights, the team concludes that customers
want a safe parking system, an effective management system which can optimize human
resources and apply technology effectively as well. Advanced in the process of renovating
the organization or business model so that it can enhance the experience for end-users by
reducing traffic jams during peak hours, reducing check-in/checkout times, avoiding
situations in case cards are lost, optimizing human resources, limiting messy parking that
takes up a lot of space, effectively managing the system, and increasing brand awareness.

3.2. Objectives of the Project

We want to apply advanced technology to the parking system, thereby improve the users’
experience and contribute to increasing the brand recognition of our customers who are
businesses or organizations, and at the same time help them to manage an efficient parking
system and human resource optimization.

CHAPTER 2: INNOVATIVE SOLUTION

1. Theory

1.1. Product innovation

1.1.1. Definition

Product innovation is the one that allows a better product to be offered than the ones
currently on the market, in the sense that it offers more functions or performs better (Meeus,
2006). Through product innovation, the company can gain a competitive advantage by
differentiating its production and increasing the quality and variety of goods that allow it
to grow demand and open new growth opportunities (Maier, 2013; Vadastreanu, 2015 a;
Vadastreanu, 2015 b).

Product innovation is the process of creating a new product—or improving an existing

one—to meet customers’ needs in a novel way.

Product innovation can be manifested at different levels of complexity, of which the most
significant are (Maier, 2018):

• The change of concept, which is based on a new idea, whether or not supported by
a new technology.

• Making the product using other materials and components with better characteristics
than the previous one.

• A new design, which often means more than just a change of shape or appearance,
may involve ergonomic aspects or manufacturing changes.

• New services that accompany the product or find new uses of the product, as such
or with minimal changes.

1.1.2. Forms of product innovation

• The development of a new product.

11

Downloaded by Cosy 209 (tranthingocthuolv1234@gmail.com)

lOMoARcPSD|31591801

• An improvement in the performance of the existing product.

• A new feature to an existing product.

1.1.3. Level of innovation

• Incremental innovation

• Radical innovation

1.2. Service innovation

“Service innovation” has become a term referring to the innovation taking place in the
various contexts of services, including the introduction of new services or incremental
improvements of existing services. A service innovation changes the way customers are
served to create value for customers and revenue for the company. Four-dimensional model
of service innovation (Den Hertog, 2000):

• Service concept, which is a new service in the market.

• Client interface, which refers to new ways as to which clients are involved in the
service production.

• Service delivery system, which encompasses new ways the actual services are
delivered to the customers.

• Technology, which has to make sure that the services can be provided efficiently.

Five service innovation processes in relation to their degree of collaboration and formality
(Toivonen and Touminen, 2009):

• Internal processes without a specific project (unintentional and incremental

innovations regarding existing service).

• Internal innovation projects (deliberate projects focusing on improvements of

service production systems and their content).

12

Downloaded by Cosy 209 (tranthingocthuolv1234@gmail.com)

lOMoARcPSD|31591801

• Innovation projects with pilot customers (new ideas are tested with a customer).

• Innovation projects tailored for a customer (the service provider strives at solving a
specific customer problem).

• Externally funded innovation projects (research-oriented collaborations focusing on

the generation of new service concepts and/or platforms).

1.3. Internal process

An internal process describes the methodologies companies use to execute initiatives and
how companies analyze those systems to prioritize process improvement. Internal
processes can help companies identify pain points, fix bottlenecks and disruptions, and
improve management processes. Business process improvement is critical to increase
automation, streamline decision-making, and realize the company’s values. Internal
processes are a part of the Balanced Scorecard, a performance measurement tool that US
engineers Robert Kaplan and David Norton developed in 1992.

2. Analysis

2.1. Product innovation

The group's new form of product innovation is the development of a new product and that
level of innovation is Incremental innovation.

The most innovative component of the product is the application of technology to automate
the motorbike parking process: online registration, the lock feature, displaying empty
parking spaces, a convenient payment method (a bank account), automatic check-in and
checkout.

The automatic parking system includes the following:

There are 2 parking lot entrances to check in and 2 parking lot exits to check out.

13

Downloaded by Cosy 209 (tranthingocthuolv1234@gmail.com)

lOMoARcPSD|31591801

• The parking lot entrance to check-in has the following: a surrounding fence, speed
humps, camera number 1 scanning the license plate, and camera number 2 recording
the whole process of entering the motorbike.

• The parking lot exit to checkout has the following: a surrounding fence, a speed
bump, camera number 3 scanning the license plate, camera number 4 recording the
whole process of entering the motorbike, and one bumper bar at the end of the exit.

There are barriers around the entrance and exit areas and barriers at the side aisles. Barrier
in the side aisle for possible theft and an insufficient balance in the account to pay the
parking fee.

There is an LED screen (showing the number of spaces available and the license plate
number).

Register an account: End users, such as students or employees, can go to the website or
download the application to register for an account. Registration for automatic parking
service includes the following:

• First and last names

• Citizen identification, passport, driver's license, or vehicle registration

• Linked bank account (for parking fee payment)

Example: UEH students can go to the website or download the UEH app and follow the
step:

lOMoARcPSD|31591801

The identification process includes the following steps:

Step 1: The camera scans the license plate of the motorbike. After capturing the panorama,
it will crop a close-up of the license plate.

Step 2: Zoning characters and numbers on the sea. It separates the characters separately
and then processes them to the same size.

Step 3: Apply artificial intelligence to the process. Specifically, machine learning (SVM)
algorithms for data classification and character recognition

Step 4: Handle confusing characters because it is possible that the characters are not clear
after being photographed and shaped, causing confusion. For example, the characters are
easily confused, such as 0 and O, 8 and B, 1 and I, etc.

Step 5: Finally, display the results in the format of license plates and the real time the
motorbike entered.

The smart parking system's operation process includes the following steps:

On entering:

16

Downloaded by Cosy 209 (tranthingocthuolv1234@gmail.com)

lOMoARcPSD|31591801

• When the motorbike enters the ledge, camera number 1 will read the license plate
number and record it in the system (using the CNN model), and camera number 2
will record the whole scene of the motorbike entering.

• There is no barrier to stop at, traffic only stops for about 3-5 seconds at the speed
humps.

• When entering the parking lot, the driver will park on the dividing lines and have
the option to lock the motorbike or not to increase safety.

Coming out: The motorbike runs out through the checkout route; when it passes, camera
number 3 will recognize the license plate, and the system will compare it with the image
recorded from camera number 1 and camera number 4 will record the whole scene of the
motorbike going out.

• Case 1: Upon successful authentication, the system will automatically deduct the
parking fee from the linked account.

• Case 2: If authentication fails, the system will report red and the barrier will close.
At this time, the motorbike with a red signal needs to turn to the right side lane to
conduct handling and inspection.

There will be 2 cases as follows:

Case 1: Detecting that the motorbike may be stolen.

• The motorbike lock feature on the web and app helps users better protect the safety
of their motorbikes.

• When your motorbike is locked, the system will immediately recognize that your
license plate is locked and cannot be checked out (unless you unlock it), and the
number plate will be displayed on the red LED screen.

Case 2: The account does not have enough balance to pay the parking fee.

17

Downloaded by Cosy 209 (tranthingocthuolv1234@gmail.com)

lOMoARcPSD|31591801

• When the user account is not enough to pay for the parking fee after successfully
recognizing the license plate (the system will record and lock the license plate).
Therefore, signs to know that the license plate is locked due to non-payment: the
LED image will show the license plate with yellow color.

• At the user's next parking, after a successful check-in and then users checkout, the
system will give a red alert and close the barrier for the offending motorbike. The
motorbike needs to change directions to the side lane to complete the payment of
the previous parking fee in order to successfully checkout and leave.

2.2. Value map

2.2.1. Products and services: Automatic parking system

The automatic parking system allows customers to park their motorbikes more
conveniently and quickly without waiting in line for automatic check-in and check-out.
The parking lot will have an LED screen showing the number of available parking spaces,
making it easy for anyone to enter the parking lot.

In addition, the system integrates the lock feature to increase safety for customers if they
want it. Everyone can choose to lock or unlock their motorbikes. Our system has been
linked with a third-party bank for automatic payment. This eliminates the use of cash for
payments that take time to review. Businesses can easily control the number of motorbikes
coming in and out every day through the system.

2.2.2. Pain relievers

Pain relievers describe exactly how our products and services alleviate specific customer
pains. They explicitly outline how you intend to eliminate or reduce some of the things that
annoy your customers before, during, or after they are trying to complete a job or that
prevent them from doing so.

Our product will solve the problem of congestion when queuing for check-in or check-out.
The parking lot does not need staff to print paper slips to check in and check out. The

18

lOMoARcPSD|31591801

systems will use advanced, convenient, and non-time-consuming payment methods when
paying directly through the previously linked customer bank account.

2.2.3. Gain creators:

Gain creators describe how our products and services create customer gains. They
explicitly outline how you intend to produce outcomes and benefits that your customer
expects, desires, or would be surprised by, including functional utility, social gains,
positive emotions, and cost savings.

Our system enhances a positive experience in the parking process. Check-in and check-out
are easy and fast with automatic systems. Product innovation creates a solution to minimize
human resources through an automated system. The business will check and monitor the
number of motorbikes entering and exiting effectively.

2.2.4. The fit

A fit is achieved when the products and services offered as part of the value proposition
address the most significant pains and gains in the customer profile. Our pain relievers and
gain creators just addressed pain and gain customers.

• Parking and payment become more convenient and faster.

• Management becomes easier, and human resources are optimized.

• Increase brand awareness for businesses.

• Limit traffic jams or congestion in the parking lot during rush hours.

2.3.1. Customer segments

Our target customers are those who are interested in improving a parking lot that has a
traditional parking system and fixed users. Traditional parking systems are often congested,
and messy parking is combined with cash payments. Especially during rush hour, that
parking lot makes checking in and out time-consuming.

2.3.2. Value Propositions

When using our automatic parking system, you will receive the following values:

• High-efficiency management, better control, strictness, and transparency: the

previous parking system used staff to operate, but when using our automatic parking
system, all of the parking processes are automatic, which reduces traffic jams during
rush hours and human resource costs as well.

• Increase brand awareness for businesses. The brand will be known as a business
with advanced technology for parking systems.

• Guaranteed safety for motorcycles: the app has a lock feature to increase safety, so
anyone can easily lock their motorbikes.

• Optimize human cost: minimize human resources as well as the cost of paying
wages to employees.

2.3.3. Channels

The automatic parking system has three main channels to communicate and distribute
products to customers:

• Direct at the office: After carefully considering our product, customers can go to
our office to buy the system license directly.

• Email: We will inform customers of new announcements, new product releases, and
changes to the service via emails.

21

Downloaded by Cosy 209 (tranthingocthuolv1234@gmail.com)

lOMoARcPSD|31591801

• Website: We will use websites on internet networking sites to promote our images
and brands, increase awareness, and communicate with customers.

2.3.4. Customer Relationships

Our business establishes and maintains relationships with customers in two ways: through
consultants at the office and online customer service. Because our product is automatic,
customers can control and manage the system themselves with just our guidelines.
However, they can come to our office to be consulted by our staff to know more about the
product, or they can contact the customer service call center for quick enquiries or solutions
to deal with difficult problems.

2.3.5. Revenue Streams

When it comes to the revenue stream, we make money by selling the parking system. This
includes software systems and fixed equipment such as cameras, automatic barriers, and
the LED screen with a standard quantity. Moreover, customers can buy optional equipment
such as a hurdle, computer, or speed bump in case they want to install more lanes than our
standard quantity or their own equipment breaks down. So, this varies depending on our
customers' demand.

2.3.6. Key Resources

To deliver our propositions, there are a number of key resources, including:

• IT infrastructure

• Software developers

• Physical office store

• Intellectual property

First, we need IT infrastructure to develop and install the system or run the business. In
addition, we will require the necessary technology to analyze data on inventory, storage,
materials, and production with the software developer to execute each of these stages. Our

22

Downloaded by Cosy 209 (tranthingocthuolv1234@gmail.com)

lOMoARcPSD|31591801

model will have an intellectual property patent to operate and sell products to our
customers.

2.3.7. Key Activities

Key activities can be divided into 4 departments:

• Inspect the technical work

• Develop software and app or website

• Sales

• Marketing

Our main activity is to research and develop software and apps/websites. Inspecting
technical work includes activities such as design, installation, repair, and warranty. At the
same time, we will carry out other activities, such as sales and marketing.

2.3.8. Key Partners

There are three main partners: banks, equipment providers, and Google Cloud.

Regarding banking, our system wants to aim for automatic fee payment via bank account
or e-wallet.

In addition to the system software, we also offer a full set of associated equipment,
including fixed items like cameras, an automatic barrier, and an LED screen, and optional
items like a speed bump, computer, or hurdle, so that the parking system may operate as
intended.

Google Cloud helps us store customer information, and the DataCenter system is always
stable and has extremely high data security, helping to protect user and customer data
against the unauthorized intrusion of technology hackers.

2.3.9. Cost Structure

23

Downloaded by Cosy 209 (tranthingocthuolv1234@gmail.com)

lOMoARcPSD|31591801

There are 5 types of expenses:

• People

• R&D

• Office rent

• Cloud storage

• Equipment cost

The cost of people is the sum to be paid to the workers who do tasks like system
programming, software upgrades, installs, system repairs, and maintenance when
something goes wrong.

R&D costs are for the research and development of new products that are technology
solutions for customers.

Our office serves as a channel for clients to ask questions and exchange information.

Cloud storage is a cloud computing model that allows storing data and files on the Internet
through a cloud service provider, which you access through the public Internet or a
dedicated private network connection.

Equipment costs are costs for cameras, barriers, LED screens and optional equipment like
a speed bump, computer, hurdle, etc. used to install and complete the system.

lOMoARcPSD|31591801

Simulation of Megaparking parking system

The system allows to record tickets and control access automatically and quickly.
Information is recorded such as license plate number, vehicle card number, ticket number,
vehicle photo, driver photo... At the same time, using a software system to help manage
the parking lot easily. Can control the number of vehicles entering and exiting, the revenue
for parking lots and many other utilities.

Megaparking software system fully meets modern features and is compatible with most of
today's peripheral devices such as analog cameras, ip cameras, magnetic card readers
(RS232 or IP card readers), automatic barriers, led lights , notification sound system.

3.1.2. Working process

Vehicles entering the parking lot will be given with a magnetic card (also known as RFID)
registered in the system. When swiping the card, the barriers will open, the camera captures

lOMoARcPSD|31591801

the license plate and analyzes it into a number. The card number and license plate number
will be stored simultaneously with the driver's image taken by the 2nd camera for querying
when necessary. The entry time starts to be counted when swiping the card.

Entrance: The security guard will take the vehicle card, swipe the card reader and hand it
over to the vehicle controller. The system will then take pictures of the license plate and
the exterior. The number plate is recognized in the form of text combined with the
parameters of the card, the date and time of entry, and the driver of the vehicle to form a
database stored on the access management system.

Exit: the staff will collect the customer's car card or the customer will use his/her own card
to swipe on the card reader. The system will take a photo of the license plate and a
panorama to recognize the license plate. The software automatically compares the license
plate when entering and exiting to check whether the parameter is valid or not. If there is
an error, the system automatically sends a warning signal to the staff. If correct, the
software displays the payment amount.

3.2. VETC

3.2.1. Overall

VETC is simply understood as a non-stop toll lane, applying modern technology to bring
many benefits. With the abbreviated name Electronic Toll Collection (ETC), all of these
toll stations are located on national highways.

A VETC tag is a vehicle identification card that is affixed to the glass or lights of a vehicle.
The card consists of two independent parts, one is affixed to the vehicle and the other is
kept on file to activate and manage the VETC traffic account.

The ETC automatic toll collection service is integrated with RFID (Radio Frequency
Identification) technology that uses radio waves to automatically identify vehicles through
toll booths. This identification is done via an e-Tag issued by VETC that is affixed to the
vehicle's glass or lights.

3.2.2. Working Process

lOMoARcPSD|31591801

When entering the tollgate without stopping, the readers arranged around will scan the code
carrying information of the vehicle and the vehicle owner in circulation. The information
is then transmitted to the PC/PLC and compared with the code contained in the computer
data.

At this time, the chapter will automatically compare and check the vehicle owner's account.
If valid, Visual Basic will deduct the fee through the station and send a message to the
registered phone number for the car owner to know. After that, the vehicle will pass through
the station and skip the buying and ticketing phase as before. As a result, vehicles can pass
through the toll lane without stopping easily. At the same time, this system also helps to
manage, monitor and record vehicle transactions.

Note: when going through the tollgate without stopping, you should drive at a speed of less
than 30km/h, keep the minimum distance between the two vehicles at 15m, and at the same
time obey the signal lights, barriers and operating staff at the station.

3.2.3. How to collect VETC tolls at stations

Step 1: Activation of road toll collection service VETC

30

Downloaded by Cosy 209 (tranthingocthuolv1234@gmail.com)

lOMoARcPSD|31591801

At this step, the vehicle owner is required to Paste the VETC vehicle identification card
and Open a VETC traffic account:

Step 2: Deposit money into your VETC traffic account

The VETC Traffic Account is used in the same way as the Prepaid Telephone Account.
That is, customers top up their VETC account and use them for the services VETC provides
and pay fees through the station.

There are 3 ways to help customers top up their VETC traffic accounts:

• Method 1: Direct cash deposit

• Method 2: Top up via bank transfer (such as Internet banking / Mobile banking /
App VETC)

• Method 3: Top-up via e-wallets (for example: VTC Pay wallet with no costs, Viettel
Pay wallet, Vi Viet, ...)

Step 3: Vehicle traffic through toll booths with automatic toll collection service VETC

Traffic through toll stations with VETC automatic toll collection service also has specific
notes: Vehicles keep the speed below 30km/h to ensure safety; Vehicles keep a minimum
distance of 15m between the two vehicles; Obey traffic lights and Barrie status; Vehicle
users follow the instructions of the operator at the station.

3.2.4. High-tech application

The ETC automatic toll collection service is integrated with RFID (Radio Frequency
Identification) technology that uses radio waves to automatically identify vehicles through
toll booths. This identification is done via an e-Tag issued by VETC that is affixed to the
vehicle's glass or lights.

5. Our competitors’ innovative solutions

After surveying other competitors' smart parking systems, these are the innovative
solutions from our competitor products/services characteristics that we could use:

Firstly, when the car enters the parking lot, there is an LED screen (showing the number
of spaces available and the license plate number). This helps the driver to determine
whether the parking lot is available or not, avoiding time and human resource loss from the
customer.

Secondly, applying technology, AI automatic number plate recognition; proprietary Web

App software, save data on Cloud; Traffic monitoring, management of many forms of
parking; Provide reporting, multi-form billing and payment. These are all modern and
advanced methods, making the parking system more modern and faster.

Thirdly, the removal of magnetic cards will help vehicles to enter more conveniently,
minimizing the risk of losing cards. In addition, the driver can go and go to the parking lot
quickly, limiting traffic jams.

6. Innovative solutions

We have applied the following types of innovation:

6.1. Network Innovation

The rise of globalization and the Internet have made networks more powerful and easier to
form and manage than ever before, which has further highlighted their importance.

Network economy is a term some use to refer to our current, post-industrial age given how
virtually all of the most valuable companies in the world derive a large portion of their
valuation from the power of their networks.

33

Downloaded by Cosy 209 (tranthingocthuolv1234@gmail.com)

lOMoARcPSD|31591801

In essence, network innovations take advantage of other companies’ processes,

technologies, products, channels, brands – and naturally those of customers and consumers
as well.

The type of Network Innovation we have utilized is "Collaboration" by working together

with the payment party, which is a bank, to serve the purpose of speedy online payment of
the automatic parking system with the aim of assisting to save time as well as the
shortcomings of using traditional cash.

6.2. Process Innovation

Internal processes are what an organization uses to develop and deliver their products and
services.

As processes are often very similar in most organizations in any given industry, most
people don’t pay much attention to them. They’re also not as prominent as the products
and services or the customer experience, but they’re arguably even more important in the
long run.

Innovations in internal processes can obviously create tremendous improvements in costs,

but also in the organization’s ability to create new, even better products and services, as
well as grow and scale effectively.

In Process Innovation, we use the type of "Intelligent Property" through the software for a
smart parking system, giving us the sole right to own it and the ability to grow our business
by offering it to more clients in the future.

6.3. Product Performance Innovation

Moving on to the actual product or service, performance is an obvious area of innovation

for every organization. It is what most people mean when they talk about innovation.

This essentially means improving the product's ability to create value. In other words,
improving things such as the quality, price, safety, ease-of-use or sustainability of the
product or service, but also the creation of new features.

34

Downloaded by Cosy 209 (tranthingocthuolv1234@gmail.com)

lOMoARcPSD|31591801

"Ease- of- Use" and "Performance Simplification" are two concepts we have employed in
Product Performance Innovation. Users who utilize the automatic parking system can
simplify the parking experience by immediately entering and exiting without stopping to
wait for check-in or check-out, as well as by going through a quick parking registration
process on the app or website.

6.4. Product System Innovation

These days, fully stand-alone products and services are not very common. A significant
portion of all products and services are used together with other complementary ones.

Product system innovation refers to improvement and changes to ensure that products work
together with other complementary ones in a way that creates more value than the product
alone could.

We employ a "Product Platform" type in Product System Innovation. To build a

comprehensive parking system for consumers that can provide the stated value
propositions, we collaborate with the bank and equipment provider.

6.5. Service Innovation

Service innovations ensure and improve the utility and value of a given product or service.
Services can make a product easier to try or use or help solve potential challenges
throughout the customer journey.

"Personalized Service" is a term we use in Service Innovation. We strive to offer our

customers websites and apps that are especially tailored to their organization, bold personal
style, and a place to keep information of the organization's own in order to improve the
experience for them and make it simple for them to manage their own parking.

6.6. Brand Innovation

A brand is simply the perceived representation a customer has of the offerings of a given
business.

35

Downloaded by Cosy 209 (tranthingocthuolv1234@gmail.com)

lOMoARcPSD|31591801

The purpose of brand innovations is thus, in essence, simply to help customers and users
recognize, remember, and hopefully prefer a given brand over the competitors.

Here, we use “Component Branding”. We add value to the parking lot by utilizing features
that outperform those offered by rivals using conventional parking systems.

6.7. Customer Engagement

Many of the most successful products and services have identified the underlying desires
and aspirations of their customers that go beyond the functional needs.

If a company is able to connect with its customers in those areas, their experience with the
organization will be far more rewarding, joyful, and memorable.

We use the "Experience Simplification" and "Process Automation" kinds in Customer

Engagement Innovation. First, using "Experience Simplification," our solution replaces the
need for magnetic cards and parking cards to identify automobile owners as well as allows
users to make online payments instantly without using cash. In terms of "Process
Automation," consumers won't have to stop their vehicles when parking and wait for check-
in and checkout because everything will be automated.

7. Conclusion

In order to better please our clients, innovation must be made in the following areas for our
customers' previous conventional parking system:

a. Payment method:

To cut down on traffic delays caused by stopping the vehicles to pay in cash, we use
automatic payment via bank accounts and e-wallets. As an alternative, our system will
instantly detect the license plate and subtract the amount equivalent to the number of hours
deposited into the user's bank account.

b. The method of entering/coming-out the parking lot:

36

Downloaded by Cosy 209 (tranthingocthuolv1234@gmail.com)

lOMoARcPSD|31591801

We are aware that each time a user enters the parking lot, they will need to stop to get a
paper card or magnetic card to identify the owner of the automobile, which takes a lot of
time and causes the user inconvenience. As a result, our system will use the CNN model
so that the parking entry and exit are fully automatic and controlled by the system software.

c. Update available space:

We will update the number of parking spaces available on the LED screen in front of the
parking lot so that drivers can know how much space is left while also preventing customer
time and resources from being wasted.

Eventually, the automatic parking system is a smartly designed system. There are 2 parking
lot entrances for check-in and 2 parking lot exits for check-out. There are barriers around
the entrance and exit areas and barriers at the side aisles, and there is an LED screen. It has
features like the lock feature, a convenient payment method (a bank account), the ability
to display empty parking spaces, automatic check-in and checkout, and online registration.
For the end user, it will make them feel more comfortable and save a lot of time.

Improve space utilization: The automatic parking system is designed to make the most
efficient use of available space in a parking lot, allowing for more vehicles to be parked in
a smaller area. Moreover, the system also has a LED screen showing the number of
available parking spaces, which will make it easy for everyone when entering the parking
lot.

Convenience: The automatic parking system offers drivers the convenience of being able
to check in and check out automatically without waiting in line.

Automatic paying method: our system will deduct the parking fee directly into the driver's
bank account or e-wallet after they check out successfully.

Optimize human resources: The parking lot doesn’t need staff to print paper slips or give
magnetic cards for users to check in and check out. We innovate the parking lot in an
automatic way.

In conclusion, the automatic parking system offers several competitive advantages over
traditional parking systems, including increased efficiency, enhanced safety, improved
space utilization, convenience, and increased revenue for parking operators.

II. Risk Analysis

Secondly, the team started Brainstorming problems in different areas and came up with
solutions. Use the Dot-voting method to select the most pressing problem. We have chosen
to study the problems and current status of the parking and parking systems of businesses
and organizations in Ho Chi Minh City in general and typically the parking lot at UEH
University.

The problems and current status of the parking and parking system are summarized as
follows:

Thirdly, the team developed the solution as follows:

Finally, review Value Proposition Canvas: Once completed, the group receives feedback
from the instructor and other students. From those comments and contributions, the team
continues to edit and perfect the Value Proposition Canvas.

2. Design Business Model Canvas:

After completing the Value Proposition Canvas, the team learned about Business Model
Canvas and how to create a Business Model Canvas. From theoretical knowledge, the
practice team brought the project into Business Model Canvas, thereby drawing a specific
view of a business model. During the finishing process, the team edited and supplemented
to get the best Business Model Canvas and at the same time have the connection between
the blocks.

- Review Business Model Canvas:

Business Model Canvas was presented by the group and received comments and
suggestions from lecturers and students in class. This process is repeated 2 times so that
the team can perfect the Business Model Canvas. After receiving the feedbacks, the team
continued to edit the Business Model Canvas, logically linking Business Model Canvas
and Value Proposition Canvas.

IV. The Team

1. Team Profiles

- Get to know each member: strengths and weaknesses

The members are connected to each other quite randomly, so the number of members in a
fairly large group that has not worked together before brings a lot of new colors. Each
member is a piece of the puzzle with their own personality, opinion, and different ways of
working. Therefore, the group has many different colors with their own strengths. This is
both an opportunity to learn from each other, a diversity of strengths, thoughts and ideas
as well as difficulties in effectively connecting members.

Understanding the strengths and weaknesses of each member of the team not only helps
everyone to understand each other better, easier to assign work, but also helps members
initially connect with each other naturally.

- Build working principles:

The working process needs to be carried out seriously, with discipline, and common
working principles to ensure a sense of responsibility for each individual and effective
work progress. The principles are built not only to help serious members but also to help
the operation process, especially the ideation, to be the best. People with views are
expressed, supported, listened, and received suggestions from other members. Listeners
have the right to object, comment and give their own views, but still ensure that all
members of the group can express and respect the opinions of others, say no to
conservatives and develop together. Moreover, there are cross-feedback sessions for each
member during each stage of Implementation roadmap.

Along with the group meetings, our group always has weekly meetings during the working
process, especially after the first steps of the roadmap. These meetings mainly focused on
commenting and evaluating the activities and working methods of members in the short
period, the good points and the bad points that they need to overcome to be able to work
more effectively. In addition, if team members have any difficulties in any part or feel

lOMoARcPSD|31591801

pressured, they can share and receive everyone's help, at the same time help everyone
understand each other and the leader can divide the work in a more reasonable way.

- Working plan

Our group’ s project plan was built from the overview to the specifics of the process to
track the progress of each stage. During that time, members could share their work and
receive suggestions and evaluations from other members. The work plan is presented by
leader on the sheet including the general work plan with a step-by-step plan in the process
of creating a business model and dividing the specific plan of each individual into each
phase.

- Difficulties and solutions in teamwork:

During the working process, the group also encountered some difficulties in harmonizing
and balancing personal views and communication methods. However, following the
working principle, each difficulty is removed slowly, thereby linking the members together
to be able to work in a more consistent way.

- Lessons of our group members after learning and running the project:

Members have the opportunity to work with different styles. More or less, each member
learns from everyone's ways of working and communicating or experiences. The team
knows how to improve and increase work efficiency when arranging time, and dividing
work more effectively so that members can actively contribute to project. While doing the

lOMoARcPSD|31591801

project, we practiced many new theories such as creating Business Model Canvas or Value
Proposition Canvas, calculating the cost, analyze the market and especially considering the
possibility of the product. After each of feedbacks session in class, especially the final
innovation workshop, we improved better by presenting product and realized our product’s
limitations through feedbacks from everyone. Finally, our team both gained our own
knowledge and experiences that helped us improve better.

2. Why we are a winning team

The team leader plays an important role in leading and running the team. Luckily, our
leader is a girl who can calm down, look at the problem in a multi-dimensional way and
can get rid of her personal ego. Sure, the leader must be a leader, therefore, our team leader
is the one who has the patience to be able to listen and absorb all ideas and members'
personal opinions and views thereby give optimistic feedbacks. Moreover, she’s also a
responsible person that always kept track the process of project to arrange tasks suitably
for each members in each stage.

Each person is a piece with a different color of the book, which means it is difficult to get
along if a group has too many people. And if it is not possible to listen and cooperate, team
members can begin to work independently with their own personal and conservative views.
However, understanding the personality and strengths of each member of the group, along
with the leader, our members are very hard-working to listen to views and contribute ideas.
During the class, we both noted down important knowledge and shared with others to
ensure no one would miss any information. A special thing about Group 4 is that we did
not assign mandatory tasks to the person who did it best. Instead, after drawing a work
plan, each individual will be presented with his or her views and wishes to contribute to
the project. Agree that, people with strengths will definitely do better, however, the
experience is very important. Each member could have chances to experience different
types of tasks to find out their strength and weakness. Meeting the wishes of the members,
reasonable division can not only promote the spirit of work but also speed up the process
and increase productivity. Besides, those who are not really good when they want to
experience, after completion, will receive suggestions from more experienced people in
particular and all the rest of the members in general. This also reinforces knowledge and
soft skills for all team members, ensuring knowledge is absorbed more effectively. Finally,

67

Downloaded by Cosy 209 (tranthingocthuolv1234@gmail.com)

lOMoARcPSD|31591801

in the process of working, the members are very active in giving suggestions and comments
so that the group's work can be viewed from a multi-dimensional perspective and
improved.
