6: INFLUENCE LINES

Prob.1
A beam 12m long is supported at the right end and at 3m from the left end. The beam carries the following loads: a)
concentrated live load of 90 KN, b) uniform live load of 40 KN/m, and c) uniform dead load of 20 KN/m.
a) Compute the maximum positive shear at a distance 6m from the left end
b) Compute the maximum negative shear at a distance 6m from the left end
c) Compute the maximum positive moment at a distance 6m from the left end

Prob.2
Draw the influence lines for the reactions at B and D, the shear and bending moment at point C and the shears just to the
left and just to the right of support D of the beam shown in the figure.
Prob 3.
Using the beam in Prob.2, determine the maximum (a) reaction of support B, (b) reaction of support D,
(c) positive and negative shears and the maximum positive and negative bending moments at point C due to a
concentrated live load of 150 kN, a uniformly distributed live load of 50 kN/m, and a uniformly distributed dead load of
25 kN/m.
Prob.4
a) For the truss shown, construct the influence lines for the bar force in each of the lettered bars.

b) Determine also the maximum value of the forces in bars a, b and c due to a series of concentrated loads shown.
Prob.5
Given a compound beam as shown below, construct the influence
lines for RA, RC, RE, VB, MB
and MC. Compute the maximum value for each of them
due to a moving uniform load of 20 kN/m.
