It is a Cisco Proprietary feature i.e. like Portfast.

Its purpose is to reduce convergence time for Root Port link failure.
This feature only works on Legacy STP i.e. 802.1D while RSTP and MST has this
feature embedded by default.
It should be enabled only on Non-Root Bridges because Root Port is selected only on
Non-Root Bridges and that’s why it shouldn’t be enabled on Root Bridge because Root
Bridge does not have Root Port.
This feature only works when Bridge Priority of switch is set to default value of
32768.
If correctly enabled, uplinkfast reduces the bridge priority of the switch to 49152
and increases the cost of every port by 3000.
Uplinkfast changes the priority and cost so that bridge does not become root
bridge.
If you enable this uplinkfast on root bridge mistakenly then the switch may become
non-root bridge because of 49152 priority. So, do not enable it on Root Bridge.
It works only on global mode. Its command is “spanning-tree uplinkfast”
Once it is enabled, you will notice that New Root Port gets elected almost
immediately. Uplinkfast makes the new RP selection by skipping Listening and
Learning Stages.
So, it saves 30 seconds of convergence time in LAN.
You can verify using “Show spanning-tree uplinkfast”
So, Uplinkfast is for Direct Link Failure. In next chapter, we will study
BackBoneFast which is for Indirect Link failure.
