Gr 9 Biology – Investigate nutrients present in lunch lab

Aim: investigate the types of nutrients present in student’s lunch

Background: Different type of food contains different types of nutrients. Students need to use the various food test method to investigate the presence of
nutrients in their lunch.

Assessed: Conclusion and evaluation (CE) but student still need to create table to record data/observations

Method:

1. Use the 4 different methods to test for the presence of sugar, starch, protein and fat.

2. If the food is solid, mash it with small amount of water before putting into test tube or spotting tile.

3. If the food is liquid, it may be used directly.

3. There will be 4 test tubes for each food sample. Label test tubes clearly.
