Note ‘These pieces are intended for the beginner player and are designed to provide 2 tuneful introduction to the instrument using simple rhythms, open strings and straightforward bowing. Pizzicato may be used throughout for the weaker player but this is not to be encouraged if a good bowing technique is to be developed. The pieces have been carefully graded to provide a good introduction to the usual musical signs and some of the most common time signatures. In each of the tunes, the bass alternates between plying the melody and performing a supporting role. This is useful for the teacher who wants to draw the pupil's attention to this distinction, and is beneficial even at the earliest stages.
