area. It gives general orientation to the reader and helps
him/her develop an appreciation for the problem, its place in the
discipline, and its importance and pertinence.
• There is a brief but careful review of the current state of knowledge
or literature in the area of the study.
• The historical background or context of the problem is presented.
Statement of the Problem
• There is statement of the aim of this research, especially how it
will fill the gap to solve the problem as such, or replicate related
research, etc.
• The statement of the problem/s is as specific and clearly defined
as possible. The time and place or context where the study is
undertaken should be stated.
• The statement of problem/s includes the specific constructs to
be measured or compared.
• Each statement is independent of one another (stands by itself).
• All assumptions, limitations, and delimitations are recognized.

II. RELATED LITERATURE (25%)

• Shows an awareness of major and recent developments in the
area of knowledge (theoretical, methodological, applied) being
studied inclusive of achievements and limitation in the area of
study.
• Relevance of previous researches to the problem is clearly and
adequately established.
• Points out potential or the need to solve this problem
(Justification for the choice of the problem).
• Backs up the researchers’ opinion with facts and theory from the
literature.
• Logically presents, with a clear outline, main topics and sub-
topics which are relevant.
• Makes clear connections between the sections of the review.
• All sources of information are clearly stated and presented,
and properly documented using style/format appropriate to
